Great flying destination

We fly into Qualicum Beach several times a year, just for lunch at the Final Approach. The absolute best calamari I've tasted. Consistently good food. The restaurant is diner style, not fancy but spotless, and front of house is efficient and friendly. We're flying over on Sunday, first time this year.

Great location & View

We just moved into town four months ago and this little restaurant came highly recommended, my husband and I decided to check it out for lunch. The hostess was quick to greet us with a smile and seat us at a table, the place was full when we arrived. I could see there was no lack of staff and our drinks and food order was taken promptly. Our food arrived in a timely manner, it was hot, well portioned, and tasted good. We actually went up last night for dinner, but it was sadly closed, another time for sure.

Final Approach was our favourite restaurant by far in Qualicum Beach and we went there multiple times a month. Just went there about a week ago after their renovation, the food is still great but the ambiance has changed for the worse. I took my wife there for a "date" night and it felt like we were in a cafeteria instead of a fine food establishment but the prices hadn't dropped to match. I understand them not wanting to do laundry anymore but they had other options. Linen, candles and flowers were never needed for breakfast or lunch so they could have changed to those items just in the evening. Another option is to do what other restaurants do which is put glass on top of the linen so they hardly ever have to change them. Sorry, we won't be coming back for as many "date" nights but could see coming for more relaxed fair at other times.

We take great pride in our food and service and strive to give a positive and enjoyable dining experience to every guest. We are very excited about our new dining room! It was completely renovated in just two weeks, allowing us to reopen as soon as possible and retain our valued employees. We are happy to tell you that we have many more changes to come that simply could not be completed within our two-week closure. In addition to patio completion, we will be adding décor including custom photography provided by a local pilot, candles on the table and roller shades (once the incorrectly ordered windows have been replaced). We are also completing new happy hour menus, a delicious feature menu and daily drink specials! We very much appreciate that you consider the Final Approach to be your favorite restaurant and we believe you will enjoy the dining room when finished. Enjoyed the location!

Went with friends for lunch. This is a small restaurant, so reservations are a must. It was pretty busy when we went, but were seated and served right away. I ordered the Cod Fish and Chips and my husband had the Burger. I found the Fish batter was overcooked and too crispy. He enjoyed his choice. We will try them again as I know the have a good reputation for their food, and everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

5 stars for service and 5 stars for the food! Everything was perfect from the moment we walked in until we received the bill. Outstanding service!! I don’t like onions so I was offered a salad instead of the rice as onions come in the rice. Not once has another restaurant offered me that before. The food was delicious!! Nice atmosphere. Was asked for proof of vaccination along with photo ID.

We went there with friends and had an excellent meal. The service was great and the food came hot. They are doing their best during these COVID times and providing a menu that is limited, but always a special available usually. Make sure you have a reservation or you may not get in. The prices are reasonable and the food was good.

Watch Airplanes!

How could you ever have a better combination? Airplanes, friendly service and great food all in one place. Our go to place when we are in the area. I’m sure this will soon be #1 in Qualicum. The only hitch is that if you go, you may not get a table during peak hours. This place is busy because it’s good.

My husband and I really enjoyed our dinner last night. Started with the calamari which was so tender and tasty. I had the hamburger which tasted like it was fresh off the BBQ with salad and my husband had the chicken club house with fries. Cold beer with some real comfort food. We see ourselves being regulars.

We have tried this place twice now since others recommended it. Both times were very disappointing. Had a beef dip and the beef was so over cooked it was brittle around the edges and the fries were dark brown from overcooking or from dirty oil. My husband had the mile high club and said it was only okay and would never order it again. The restaurant was clean and bright with lots of windows but that didn’t make up for the poor food.

Take out Fish/Chips tonight - very very delicious! Large portions of Cod and chips including extra condiments. All prepared perfectly. Thanks to the pleasant staff both on phone & when we picked up order. Will do this again.

Disappointing dinner

We went with friends for dinner after they raved about this place. Two burgers were burnt and had a charcoal taste on the outside. Yam fries were overcooked. We passed on the dessert. We hadn't seen it before the renovation, so can't comment on that. It would be a nice location on a nice day to see aircraft landing and taking off.

Post Covid lock down dinner and I was beyond impressed with the efficiency of the staff and their thoroughness in sanitizing EVERYTHING. I was reluctant to go out for a sit down dinner, but the staff here made me feel very comfortable in their environment with their thorough procedures. We will definitely be back there again soon! Thank you to all the Final Approach Staff for making this such a wonderful and safe experience and on top of that, such excellent food.

Lived here 8 years this is our favourite restaurant but we won’t be back. Food has gone down hill and the staff have no clue. We waited over 10 minutes for 2 waitresses to bring us horseradish. By this time the food was cold so we sent it back. It still appeared on our bill. The manager came and told us it would stay on the bill because they offered to replace it. This would have meant everyone else waiting as they had finished their meal. We skipped the dessert and the tip and left. That cost the server and the restaurant $50 and we will never go back. The owners are great people but they need to sort that out.

Somewhat disappointing

Two of us for a birthday dinner. They have just finished expanding the facility and maybe not finished the decor. The service was excellent but the food was not. I had a large beet and goat cheese salad which needed a much better or more dressing it was quite bland. My husband had the steak sandwich which he said was tasty but tough. The menu was fairly limited but they are apparently changing it soon. It will be a while before we try it again.

COVID protocols are followed very well and while we haven’t gone out for dinner much for a year, we felt safe and relaxed at Final Approach. The service was friendly and attentive, but not overbearing. We shared an appetizer and a burger. The burger was very good, great charred flavour and simply but nicely presented. The appetizer we had was the calamari. I’m afraid it fell short of expectations. The batter made it taste greasy. We had excellent calamari here a couple years ago, but this was just not the same. Still, I think I would give them another try just not the calamari.
