We went to this restaurant because many people had recommended it to us, and we can see why. It was presented very nicely, and the best thing was that the side dish was as good as the main meal. Very different and creative. We felt...the price was very reasonable, and the waitress was very good.More

We recently went to the restaurant for Christmas brunch. Last year we had a fantastic brunch and wanted to return . This time the brunch was buffet style with no reservations required. When we walked in we were seated in the wood paneled room with...a bar and we were the only ones seated there...we noticed other people sitting in the inviting other room with nice white table cloths and there were tables available. All of the entrees were cool to cold, and the turkey breast that was sliced and put on my plate was flat out cold. I wish now I had spoken up as the price for all of this was very expensive. That in of itself would not have bothered me as long as the food and dining experience had been excellent. Needless to say we will never return to Harbour House for any food again.More

For the last 2 weeks I was walking a dog at Wiffin Spit Today I feel like having a meal out. Sooke Harbour Cooper Room was a great choice! Seafood mussels and clams were cooked to perfection in beautiful light sauce It was sooo tasty...I had to ask for baguette to have some of it/ Yummm! Fries were crispy and crunchy served with great smooth, tanny sauce. Desert... was a special story!!!! Chocolate mousse, covered with velvety, silky dark chocolate complemented by sweet and sour raspberry compote! Wow! And presentation!!! Special treat! Complements to the Chefs!!!More

Not the place to come if you expect to leave with a full belly! Nouvelle Cuisine died years ago, people are expecting food not art on their plates, particularly if a 3 course meal for two people with wine and tip is over 350.00 dollars

The food and service in the dining room was good but it was seriously overpriced. The view and ambiance are lovely. Breakfast was good and was included in our room rate except we had to pay for our beverage and tax on the cost of...the meal. Really!? Seems cheeky. Our room was adorable with a comfortable bed and a gorgeous view of the water. The hotel has a wonderful, charming feel and the grounds were a tumbling delight of shrubbery, herbs and interesting spots to take in the views. A little sprucing up would go a long way.More

Lovely site with a great view. Regrettably, what was served had a very ordinary taste. The salad was so small - i think it only included 12 small leafs with almost no dressing. The meat portions were minuscule. I raised it and nobody cared. When...you finish eating at this restaurant, you are still hungry. This was overall very expensive.More

We had very slow service. Burgers very average, no flavour. Drove all the way from Victoria for this! Most disappointing.

I had a not so good experience here, I emailed them to address the issue 2 weeks ago and the business did not bother to respond. Here is what I said in my email. Good Morning, I am emailing to share with you the experience...my wife and I had at your restaurant last night. We had booked a table on Open Table at the main dining room and were really looking forward to our dinner for quite some time after reading all the reviews.  Unfortunately, my wife has some allergies and dietary restrictions so a few of the items on the set menu were not going to work for her, so we asked if we could move into the Copper Room which had a more friendly menu for her.  The switch was made, quickly and we were seated in the Copper Room. I ordered the Chef's Trio Surprise (can't remember the name) for $55 and enjoyed all 3 of my dishes.   Unfortunately, the two dishes my wife ordered were completely made a mess of and left her to pick at my main.   The first dish my wife ordered was the Wiffen Spit Greens, which was described in the menu as Sprouts, Shoots, seeds, harbour house herb vinaigrette.   What came to the table was a bed of Romaine lettuce with a couple pickled mushrooms, tiny sour berries and berry vinaigrette dressing.  Nothing on the main menu nor the ever-changing menu resembled what came to the table, very disappointing. We sent it back. Her second dish was the Mushroom Fricassee off the ever-changing menu which also came out not even close to what was described in the menu.   What arrived was a bowl of sauteed veggies with a puck of polenta on top in what looked like some beet juice. No mushrooms, no creamy leek sauce, no green beans as stated in the nenu.....in fact not even close to a Mushroom Fricassee (not a mushroom in sight).  In order to try to save the situation I swapped dishes with my wife so she would be able to eat something, but by this point the dining experience was ruined. Our server was clearly embarrassed, and was as confused as we were on how such an enormous mistake could happen not once, but twice at what is described as a fine dining restaurant with a good reputation. Same kitchen, same chefs, sending out stuff not even close to what is on the menu.  We had both items removed from the bill, which is to be expected.   We are disappointed there was no offer or attempt to remake the dishes according to what we ordered and what was described on the menu. An apology came from the server, the dishes were whisked away, but no offer to remake.   We are also disappointed no one from the kitchen nor a manager came out to apologize for what happened and left the server to face this absolute disaster on her own.  Does no one check dishes for consistency and accuracy in the kitchen before they get served to the customer?   A hungry couple, looking forward to celebrating an important event in their lives together at your restaurant left feeling hungry, unsatisfied and bewildered at the events that took place at your restaurant.  How on earth was this allowed to happen? Service was good, she was pleasant, kind, personable and was absolutely embarrassed by this horrible mess as well. Looking forward to your reply,More

My husband and I received a wedding gift for the Sooke Harbour House so we stayed there on our 1st anniversary August 10, 2019. It was a night we will never forget. Room $600 and dinner just over $200 were a total rip off costing...about $950 all in for one night! Our room was large, eclectic and rundown looking and smelled extremely smoky when we entered. Later when we lit the fireplace it was obvious the chimney had not been cleaned in a very long time as smoke came in! Sheets were dirty with yellow and brown stains. Dining room food tasted great, what there was of it. Our four courses was less food than one course anywhere else. My favourite part was watching my husband try to be polite about his meal: One cut up shrimp with some onions and peppers as ceviche, one oyster, one tiny piece of halibut and the best was literally ONE blackberry as dessert. Ha ha! Needless to say he was thankful we always pack nuts and power bars when traveling!! After dinner when we went to our room it was about 8:30pm and the front desk closes at 9. We used the toilet, flushed and raw sewage came into the toilet! It was so disgusting!!! We went down to the desk and the poor young man working tried to tell us it was dirt coming into the toilet but then when my husband started laughing and said no, clearly it was not. He admitted it was sewage and agreed it was gross! But he got to go home in half hour. Needless to say we did not brush our teeth with the tap water. Not even an apology or a free breakfast or anything. We had to keep the bathroom fan on all night and all of the windows wide open to get rid of smoke and sewage smell!! Rumour has it the hotel is in foreclosure which is probably why they don’t care and it’s dropped from 5 star to less than one. Very sad because this used to be a beautiful hotel and it is in a very pretty location.More

This is our third trip to stay in Sooke Harbor House and enjoy a meal or two there. Whew! The formal dining room is exquisite--tiny portions, 3 or 4 courses. Pricey, but interesting enough that we could enjoy ourselves. There's also a bar/outdoor patio of...more common fare, and it's all delicious too.More

We went to the dining room to celebrate our 50th anniversary. First, the place needs a paint job outside badly and surely, they can pave their parking lot instead of having gravel - maybe they want a rustic look bit they have not succeeded. The...dining room is nicely appointed with linen and smart chairs (but they look a bit too wedding). Our server introduced herself as Jess (I think - a name "Jess" is put down as manager - but if this the same person, she needs to improve her PR and serving skills), and we saw very little of her except to take our order, bring our drinks and bring the meals, and take our dessert wishes. - she did not come back to ask how we were enjoying the meal and we did not see her at the end. Perhaps she thought we were rubes for not ordering the 3 or 4 course meals?. The other server, a man, was pretentious as he worked with another table. He did not allow the people at the table to make their own choices and then when they wished to, he told them that that is not what he would suggest, but it was their call. He talked far too much and our server did not talk enough; she knew about our anniversary and mentioneed it once at the beginning. As we left, their was no one at the front desk; and it was not our server who brought the bill. Overall, pretention rules here where prices are FAR too highMore

We came here 8 years ago and was blown away by the food as it was delicately prepared. However this time we were surprised to find that the way of cooking has changed. The halibut and scallop were overcooked as it was not done delicately...like sous vide style anymore. The seared pork belly was too salty. However, the steak was well prepared and nicely cooked. The dining room was nice and clean and had a nice view. Service was excellent. The bill was $760 for 7adults and one child and we didn't even order dessert so value for money it is not. We had very good quality dinner downtown Vic for half the price here!More

I took three friends to lunch at the Cooper Room of the iconic Sooke Harbour House. The outing was a great success. We had a window table with views of the garden and the sea. My friends ordered the special for that day, prime rib...and they declared it the best they had eaten for some time. The meat was served with Yorkshire pudding ,mash potatoes and some fresh vegetables from their garden. I ordered the Chowder that included local shell & fin fish enhanced by pieces of bacon and potatoes in a delightfully tasting broth . The menu is very interesting and selecting one item was difficult for me. I was tempted to order Steamers and Chips ....Manilla Clams , Salt Spring Island Mussels, in a Chorizo & Saffron broth with crispy chips.,,,, mouth watering , I will have to wait for my next visit. If you want a pleasant and delightful day trip from Victoria , the Sooke Harbour House will not let you down and if you want to extend the experience by spending a night .,, or two .,. you will be enchanted by the experience.More

Lovely, gracious setting in a vintage hotel right on the water looking out to sea. Great combination of just right service and solitude. You may choose three courses, two courses or dine a la carte. We chose the latter, focusing on seafood. We starting with...grilled octopus. Delicious. We both had the Hecate Strait halibut and loved it. We went a bit off the ranch by having red wine with it, but the pairing, a BC pinot, worked well. Too well-fed for the dessert, so we sat back and watched a cruise ship slowly making its way out to sea. The restaurant is pricey, but it is the atmosphere after all that you are buying. This is a real remnant of a bygone gracious Vancouver Island time. A good experience.More
