Great menu and very good food. We are regulars but unfortunately we don't go often enough. We vow to go once a month now to support this local business. Prices have gone up but we still consider it to be good value for the quality...of the food and the presentation. I had the seafood au gratin and it was a 10 out of 10. Not a huge portion but good for a starter. I then had the rabbit with pasta which was also good but not as good as the starter. The menu implied that 2 courses were $31.95 but the bill had a slightly different price. It was only a couple of dollars different so we didn't question it. My husband had the foie gras to start and the fish for his main course and he enjoyed both. For dessert we both had the chocolate mousse that we could barely finish - it was a good portion and delicious. It was only $6.00 for the dessert. Our bill was $95 before the tip and we consider it good value.More

We could not even get in. We reserved online for dinner. We received a confirmation email. We drove all the way to Gatineau and the door was closed at 7:15 pm, the time we reserved for arrival. Inside there was a lady talking on the...phone. The place was empty. She kind of ignored us. As we insisted at the door the lady inside said that the cook had called sick and there was nobody else to run the place. What kind of restaurant is this that relies in a single employee? Not even a call or message to cancel. This is unacceptable.More

I am still wondering if this evening with 7 friends was a nightmare and I am about to wake up. After waiting some time to be served with drinks and give our meal order, the candles on the dining table which were already lit, were...blown out by the owner. No explanation as to why and the smoke from blowing them out wafted into our faces. We ordered our choices, mainly from a slip of paper that was in addition to the main menu. 4 of us ordered the confit of duck (one of my favourites after living in France for 13 years). Our starters were served and then our mains started arriving. It took about 10 minutes between the arrival of the first main, to the arrival of the last of our 8 meals. we were all waiting for all the meals to arrive before tarting to eat. Of course this was our choice but we are traditional like that! Once we started eating I realised that my confit was not properly cooked. As a professional cook I have served confit of duck many hundreds of times myself. The meat was tough ( it should fall off the bone) and the meat on the bone was red and raw. I sent my meal back to the kitchen. After about 10 minutes I asked what was happening as regards my meal. The plate returned with the same meat on it and a lot of sauce poured over it. I was told it had been cooked more. I explained (calmly) to the server that confit is a long slow cook so 10 minutes was not appropriate for this dish. I asked them to remove the met and I continued to eat the small portion of potatoe puree and a few little vegetables. By now my friends who have also ordered the confit realised that their met was raw inside too. We asked to talk to the chef but were told he did not come out of the kitchen. Interesting. We did not want to order a dessert following this situation. We asked for the bill. When the bills came they had charged higher rates for our soups and meat than the prices shown on the paper slip they gave us when ordering our meals. The soup had been prices at $8 and they charged $12. The confit was priced at 21.95 and they charged $34. We asked them to revise the bills and to adjust the price of the confit dish to reflect the fact that we had only eaten the vegetables. They refused and the older lady serving us started shouting at us that we just didn't want to pay and kept walking away from the table in disgust, then returning to shout at us again. We calmly explained that we wanted to pay. A rice that reflected what we had eaten and at the prices on the menu. More shouting by the older lady and then the younger lady serving joined in the aggressive discore towards us. We calculated our own bill - $8 for the soup and half the listed price for the confit given we had only eaten the little portion of vegetable - $11. We added the taxes and this case to $21.85. We offered this in cash and they refused. They said they were calling the police. We said we would wait for them to arrive. After about 20 minutes the police arrived and asked us to explain what had happened, which we duly did. They explained thatalthoug we had not been able to eat the meat we had to pay the listed price for the meal and then file a complaint with the relevant authorities that the prices were not what was listed and another authority for the fact that the meat was raw. We duly paid our bills. Needless to say we did not leave a tip! In all my many years of dining in UK, France and Canada I have never experienced such a "service" in a restaurant. I even think it is inappropriate to use "service" in the same sentence as this restaurant.More

The whole experience was underwhelming. It started off with the waitress lighting our table candles and then 10 minutes later coming by the blow them out. As the evening progressed, we secured our own candles from other tables, as she never again attempted to lite...ours. At the end of the evening she finally stopped by to pour our group another glass of wine, but only collected the empty bottle. It was an over priced $75 bottle of wine, that should have come with some service. The food was underwhelming to say the least. Some appetizers were served stone cold - foie gras should not be served as a frozen congealed block. Mains were not as advertised, and food allergies were either either forgotten or simply ignored. The duck in the duck confit was either undercooked (rare) or overcooked, Never did it fall off the bone as it should with duck confit. When a few at the table complained, The manger and cook insisted that there was not any thing wrong with the preparation of the meal. There was no effort to make things right other than to re heat these meals and to cover the duck with heavy sauce. When they insisted on some sort of price reduction for only these meals, the rude waitress called the police accusing us of not paying. All but two had paid the complete bills, the others were waiting for an adjusted bill. Now as for the bills, they were all wrong. The price charged were not the price listed on the menus. The waitress insisted that the bills were correct and no adjustments were offered or made. The Police advised us the file a complaint prices and for the two diners who had not yet settled the bill to pay it in full. We will never return to this restaurant.More

We picked this restaurant do to location and yelp reviews. Should have looked at the dates. While it is evident that it was once a highly sought after restaurant - with very good food - they have not recovered from COVID. And it was evident...in their food and service. Clearly they were not making to order - which meant that our sides were cold. Plated in advance and put in the fridge. The lamb chops were tasty but disappointing when all the food wasn't hot. The manager hovered too much - the other server was quite good and deserved her tip. We will try the restaurant again in the hopes that they improve. But only one more chance which is too bad because there is great potentialMore

I just got back from Le Pied De Cochon from a meal celebrating my wife's birthday .I have to express my displeasure not only with the meal as presented but mostly by the managements lack of concern about my wife and my observations that the...meal was over cooked and cold! We both ordered the rack of lamb. My wife ordered hers medium and mine medium rare. My was pink which is what I expected but my wife's was clearly over cooked. Brown and leather like. What is worse was the total denial by the manger that there was any thing wrong with the preparation of the meal. There was no effort to make things right other than to re heat our meals which only resulted in my meal also being over cooked. I say this as I have eaten at this restaurant many times over the years and have always thoroughly enjoyed myself. The worst problem was the total denial by the manager that there was anything wrong and the complete lack of an attempt to make things better. Too bad as this was one our go to restaurants because of it's consistency. Not anymore !!!More

Food was excellent so was service until they brought the bill. When I pointed out that that was not my bill, the argument started. I pointed out that we had not ordered desert and certainly not a $100 bottle of wine. This one waitress insisted...that we had had that wine and after checking came back to say that we were right we had not had desert but had indeed that wine as it was the only (don't even know the right name) Oyosoo bottle on the wine list. I asked to see the wine list to point out the wine I had ordered. The wine list she brought did not have my wine on it, she then said that was the only list they had and when I said I ordered from another one she brought the other wine list and sure enough here was my Gamay wine at $41. I could forgive the whole situation if these two waitresses hadn't insisted that their bill was OK and that I was wrong for too many minutes. Too bad for the Chef who prepared an excellent meal but I am neve=r going back there. It was supposed to be a special birthday evening for my love and it ended on a negative tone that was unnecessary by incompetent servers. How can you not remember what you served at a table when there are only three tables in the whole restaurant,,,,,,was this done intentionally to put more money in their pockets.....I have to wonder.....one bottle of wine is not enough to make people forget what they ordered.......reallly really disapointing.....it was my husband choice of a restaurant and I feel sad that it turned out this way.More

After perusing the menu, we came back to the bavette de boeuf with a bottle of wine. The atmosphere was pleasant enough, but the bavette was a rather basic steak frites, nothing special. Wines start at over 50$ a bottle. I suppose we pay for...quality, but the restaurant should offer a basic wine for 30 -35$ a bottle.More

Terrible service. Even though we had made reservations 2 days in advance, they did not have our names on their list. Staff lacks experience and it shows. In middle of pandemic, staff is not wearing masks or visors even though my husband and I are...in our 80’s. Long wait between courses. Waitress had to come back to take our order a second time. Food was good but not what it used to be. Dessert was so long coming that we left before it arrived. Frustrating experience overall.More

We have never been to a restaurant where we have to spend exact 3 hours for our dinner. The service just extremely terrible and slow. They only have ONE waitress to serve entire restaurant. We were wondering how many people were working in the kitchen?...Server was giving out breads to other people and ignored us. After waited ONE Hour for our appetizers, I asked the lady WHY We didn't get breads then she brought out 5 little one bite buns for 5 of us. Also, they were giving out Birthday Cake with candles to other people except us. We kept quiet the whole time not complaining but to watch the terrible service we were receiving from this restaurant. We spent $360 for my Birthday Dinner and received no appreciation or feel they value our business. We were wondering if these people were prejudiced against the visible minorities. We don't know how this restaurant got good reviews??? See it believe it. I would not recommend this restaurant bases on our experience. Tasting of food was not bad but small portion. If you are hungry for food, don't go to this restaurant.More

It's been nearly a year since our last visit and nothing has changed...same great service and the food, exceptional! With my brother getting up in years and living in Ottawa, we'll be able to get there at least a couple of times a year instead...of just once. Looking forward to getting back soon.More

I ordered filet mignon (expensive) and mentioned that I wanted it medium rare. The meat came WELL DONE, yes well done, not even medium. When I told the server, she took my meal back to the Chef (who was alone that day I was told)....2 minutes later she came back with the same meal and a flash light. She told me that the meat was medium rare and she pointed the flashlight to the meat, which made it even show that the meat was brown and not rosè like medium rare. I had to insist to send it back. The Chef was obviously pissed at me and she made me wait a long time before bringing me my medium rare tenderloin this time. The rice was also too salty but i did not send it back (just did not eat it). The Pied de cochon used to be a good restaurant, but not anymore unfortunately... Not going back as there are good options now in Gatineau and Ottawa.More

The food was great! When we pay the bill and include a tip, we got a very rude comment from the waitress. Being a foreigner and not understanding the tipping system in Quebec she could have explaining it to us instead of being very rude...and complaining about the amount! The evening was spoiled because of her attitude!More

My wife and I visited Le Pied for the first time in several years to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. It has been several years since our last visit as our kids no longer lived in the Ottawa area. We didn't know what to expect,...was it still as good as we remembered it? Was there new ownership? Did it still look the same? Well yes to all the above. We arrived a half hour late due to shabby cab service. When I called to tell them we would be late, we were told not to worry, that our table was being held for us.When we arrived we were escorted to what I feel,is the best table in the place. We were attentively waited on by our server,John who explained the menu to us.I'll cut my review short now, but every thing was perfect! Le Pied de Cochon has returned to its rightful spot on our list as the #1 restaurant in Canada. Looking forward to our next visit.More
