I've been coming here for literally decades, every time we stay in Fernie. The quality has never waivered. It's always great service and great food. That being said, they are popular so go early. They're often lined up.

We had a great meal. Went early so no waiting. Sat in the main room with the bar. Server made good recommendations. Wine was reasonably priced and good. Strongly recommend.
Food was amazing. We ordered as a group so we sampled a good portion of the entire menu. Everything was very fresh and tasty. Couldn’t be happier. Staff was friendly and very knowledgeable of ingredients. Price was very reasonable. Big city quality with small town...price and atmosphere.More
Absolutely stellar food and service! Everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was superb and the service was beyond friendly, so welcoming and inviting. Pure Kismet that we were staying across the road and saw this and decided to dine here. Our server...was originally from our home town, which elevated things even that much more. Will be back every time we come to Fernie.More
We tried a whole bunch of things after a good day of skiing: drinks with a Japanese twist, kara-age chicken, some sushi, and ramen. Everything was delicious, the service was friendly, and the atmosphere was lively.
We were seated right away, which was great. I was surprised we didn’t get a pepper to order like most sushi restaurant. The food was delicious and the menu quite elaborate. Service was acceptable but definitely not personable or interested. We were presented the bill...as soon as we finished so the kids didn’t even get to order the sesame ice cream we had heard about.More
We had a table for 8 and 2 people came 45 minutes late. The 6 of us had plenty of drinks and appetizers, yet the waitress kept asking when the other 2 would arrive, even saying that they don't usually hold seats for people. As...we continued to order, and asked questions about food and drinks, we got brief curt responses. Throughout the meal, we were made to feel as though we were inconveniencing the server for being there. The food was good, but all of us had eaten better sushi in various places where we lived: Vancouver, Toronto, Ajax, Whitby, and Hamilton. My wife and I were disappointed with the sushi carpaccio because it was drenched in oil. Carpaccio is supposed to feature the delicacy of the fish or meat; the tuna and fish were so drenched that we could barely taste them. We enjoyed the flavourful sushi and had a good time overall, but a group should be made to feel welcome.More
Very busy place, 35 minute wait was worth it though. Two of us had a Ramen bowl that was so good. Udon and tempura shrimp was just okay, 2 shrimp and a bowl of udon &. Broth. Fresh and delicious sashimi. Get the sashimi carpaccio,...yum!!More
Some of the best sushi I’ve ever had. Shame they don’t take reservations, but the food makes up for the wait. Definitely recommend the Futomaki roll, dragon roll, and the toasted black sesame ice cream is like nothing I’ve ever had before, bussin.
Tempura arrived quickly, hot, crispy, excellent. 6 oz wine=$12 Pinot was good, did not like Merlot as much. Tall Timbers beer hit the spit after a day on the River. Crowded at 5:40 and they only opened at 5! Sushi, Fernie roll and Tiger roll...took awhile. We were glad drinks and tempura came fast. Prices good. Server Kiana attentive, informative and accurate.More
Only average. Please add more fish to your rolls. They all toast the same. Simple as that. Each roll needs to be unique and stand out based on its ingredients. The lack of competition is why you are #1 in Fernie. Therefore - I suggest...a meal of a variety of foods, and not an assortment of rolls.More
Sushi are just great, large selection, obviously fresh made on demand, there are 2 private rooms, patio and a sushi bar. Staff is courteous, spoke with a guy from Aylmer Qc. He prepared us ‘deep fried beef sushi’ OMG! Will go back, Reserve !
My daughter wanted to eat sushi. She loved it. I had tempura dish and a chicken dish. Service was great.
This place is absolutely overrated. We went there because of the high ratings. It's so disappointed that the food wasn't done properly or in Japanese way. Tempura was really big, good to fill up one's stomach, but not authentic. The broccoli and yam was huge...that the broccoli was boiled before it was deep fried. Taste terrible. Shrimp was full of baking soda flavour. Batter wasn't cruncy but soggy. The sushi rolls were all good size to fill up the stomach but the rice was really tough. Not sure what went wrong. Suspect it wasn't sushi rice, and vinegar and sugar wasn't added. Fish was okay. Soft Shell Crab Karaage was overly deep fried. The sauce was overly sour. Beef Tataki was ok, but not in thin slices. Gyoza was ok. Customer service was good but it doesn't offset the food quality.More
I judge sushi-ya by their chirashi don. It can be a relatively simple dish, but that means there's no hiding the quality of your sashimi or rice. The chirashi at Yamagoya is very good, even exceptional. The sashimi on top is nicely varied, abundant and...beautifully presented. The rice has always been perfect, never sticky, watery or hard, with modest vinegar and sugar. The other sushi and sashimi offerings at Yamagoya are just as good (although I eat the chirashi most visits) I've been lucky to eat a number of sushi restaurants in various places and Yamagoya definitely holds its own among my favourites.More
