We were two adults that visited this restaurant on August 31, 2021. The restaurant was full but we had reservations. I started with a cauliflower soup, which was very tasty. My friend ordered a beef tartare, which he said was delicious and just the right...amount of spice. In terms of the next course I had linguine and shrimps. It was first rate & I enjoyed it immensely. My friend had the salmon tartare, which was a very generous portion. There was not a crumb left on the plate! In terms of dessert I had the sugar pie, which I enjoyed. For wine we ordered a bottle of white Muscadet. An excellent choice. Our server was France G and she was very professional and efficient. Merci, France! Overall, a very enjoyable meal. A perfect way to end our trip to Matane.More

I enjoyed my visit and really liked tasting a sangria made with local fruits and of course the seafood is splendid...! Oh and the cheesecake is to die for. The lady taking care of us was adorable. Do reserve early because the restaurant is very...popular. I thought the setting could be more comfortable and the prices were a bit high but overall I think it might be the reference for the best dining in Matane.More

First words we were told : “you have 1.5 hour to eat!!!” And how about “welcome to our restauration blablabla”??? Literally wtf?! But unfortunately it was only the beginning! Over priced, under qualified personnel, ridiculous service and moreover the food was just disgusting!!! 100$ later,...I have a stomachache (mayo all over our food) and I’m still hungry! While I was waiting for my girlfriend to go to the bathroom, I heard three people complain about both the restaurant and the hotel. What a disgrace and lack of professionalism!!!! Coming from the Bask Country I had great hopes but I guess not everyone can open a restaurant and be good at it!!!More

Was good , very clean and nice waitress. View was amazing. I would visit again. Fried cheese curds a little greasy but the lobster club sandwich was very good and the bread was extra fresh.

We were staying at the Riotel hotel and reserved the day before for the Cargo restaurant. We really enjoyed our dinner at Cargo. The decor was nice and the oceanview was amazing. We were 3 people and ordered the Matane shrimp linguine, the Coquille Saint...Jacques meal and the Beer battered shrimp. The meals are bit pricey for what you get but they were good and you can't beat the views. The people next to us ordered the pizza and the lobster sandwich and their portions were really big. Our waitress was really nice and no one pushed bottled water on us like another reviewer wrote. With regards to Covid....there are markers on the floor to social distance and we wore our masks until we sat down. They disinfect the tables, chairs and menus. The seating inside is Covid friendly but they also have tables outside.More

In the fishing port of Matane we wanted a fish dinner, so we were recommended to go to Cargo. Having informed the waiter of my egg allergy we ordered Calamari to start. I was assured this would be ok. When it finally arrived (the restaurant...was very busy) it was served on a slate smeared all over with tartare sauce. It went back (with no problem) and we waited a further 20 minutes for another, egg free serving. My husband had Beer Battered Fish and Chips and I had the Seafood Coquille au Gratin (without the slaw), which did NOT have duchess potatoes but plain old mash, and quite a bit of it too. The food was ok, nothing wrong with it but not outstanding either. Beautiful venue and the sunset was stunning.More

During our stay at the hotel this is part of, we had dinner and breakfast. Both were fine. Staff was good, they did speak some English which helped.

We were on a motorcycle so we did not want to get back on to go anywhere else. We went here for dinner and breakfast. There was a bit of a language barrier because our server did not speak any English but I had my...phone with me and could look up words I wanted to say. Caesar salad was delicious and the hamburger was also very good. For breakfast they have everything that you might want. No plain yogurt but they did have fruited yogurts, eggs, hot cereals, cold cereals, potatoes, bacon, toast, the usual fare. They also had beans and ham. Very good food with a really nice view of the water.More

I ate there twice while staying at the Pavillon sur mer. Everything I ate was good, nothing was outstanding, but really good still. I had the chaudrée de la mer, the ceasar salad and papardella with mushrooms. This last plate was good, the sauce was...excellent, but it lacked in mushrooms. The restaurant in itself is beautiful! From the design, to the glasses and utensils and plates and finally, to the view. Everything is beautifully put in place. The restaurant would help me in my decision to go back to the hotel.More

Cargo is the busy restaurant attached to the Riotel hotel in Matane, Quebec. It is a square functional space designed to look like a cargo container like the ones transported along the giant St Lawrence River. The ceilings are high enough to swallow the noise...produced by diners. My wife and I both had the steak which - most unusually in restaurants these days - was cooked exactly the way we had requested. We both ended with a great apple tart dessert. The service was friendly and plentiful and also a bit chaotic - twice we saw severs with plates almost collide - but overall a very pleasant dining experience.More

Cargo is not polished enough to qualify for a five star rating in a major city, but in the small, somewhat remote town of Matane, it is unexpectedly excellent. The setting on the St. Lawrence is superb, the room airy and modern, the menu limited...but varied, and the food tasty and mainly well-prepared. The biggest downside was the tiny shrimp and scallops in one dish. But nobody's perfect.More
