We stopped into Lunenburg for lunch after a visit further down the South Shore. The Salk Shaker has a good reputation so we chose to eat there. They are doing everything right in terms of the pandemic. A worker outside greeted us and took a name and contact number in case there is a need for contact tracing. All the workers wore masks. But best of all they have managed in spite of a shortage of plexiglass to make functional and attractive dividers between tables using small paned glass windows in a 2x4 frame and attractively painted. They are able to seat more people inside and out very comforably. My husband ordered a Bahn Mi burger. He said it was delicious with some interesting spiciness. It did not look like a proper Bahn Mi sandwich but he was fine with that. I had the smoked salmon club sandwich which was delicious. I like that they have things you do not find elsewhere. The service was very efficient and friendly and on the way out we had a chat with the manager who seemed to be working out how to get more room dividers into the final section indoors. He was pleased when we said how the dividers looked as if they had always been there and actually enhanced the decor. We often visit Lunenburg and will certainly be returning to the Salt Shaker Deli,

We are staying in Lunenburg and have been looking forward to trying some of the recommended restaurants. The town seems to be overly busy trying to feed the “local” tourists who are here. I know it’s not busy like a normal year, but there are more of us Maritimers checking out our own provinces I think. There were quite long waits at many spots last night - and some no availability at all. Most don’t seem to take reservations at this time; however, you can check in with them and leave your phone number for when they get you a table. We thoroughly enjoyed out panfried haddock, cheeseburger pizza and mussels. Lovely location and restaurant in Lunenburg- all the girls waiting on us and checking us in were excellent!

We were greeted by the owner as we made our way to the restaurant for dinner. We were very happy there were a few choices of places on a Sunday evening in September. We shared a bottle of wine and were told we were able to cap it and take it home if we didn’t finish. We started with the made in-house chicken pate, it was absolutely delicious, served with triangles of warm, soft and crispy toast, a perfect combination with a sliced deli pickle. My husband had the seafood stew and I chose the butter chicken. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. We decided to take the chocolate mousse home for dessert as we were too full to eat it there. Overall a great experience, we ended up going back the next night for dinner

Title s says it all. Seafood chowder had no flavour....I mean zero at all. The lobster in the lobster roll was dry (I assume frozen then thawed?). So the lobster did not even taste like lobster....the whole thing just tasted like an overdone herb sandwich.

We have eaten at the Salt Shaker three times now and each meal was wonderful. The servers are most obliging and helpful and the food is excellent I would strongly recommend the beet salad, the lobster roll and of course the chowder but really you will not go wrong with any dish. They also have a great selection of beer on draught.

We chose Salt Shaker Deli & Inn as our place to stay overnight in Lunenburg, and had dinner there as well! The Stay: - We had the waterfront queen room which was quaint, clean and very comfortable with a lovely ocean view. The room was bright and inviting during the day, and cozy/quiet at night. It got a little warm but the fan provided did the trick. The Meal: - Downtown Lunenburg is very busy, even on a Tuesday in September! Everywhere to eat was full for at least a 45 minute wait and though our concierge at Salt Shaker told us to give them a call 20 mins before we were ready to eat (as somewhat "preferred" guests since we were staying there too) when we did it was packed. We didn't mind waiting though and had dessert before dinner, visiting Sweet Treasures Confectionery and enjoying ice cream while we waited for our table. Inside was small, made smaller by the COVID protocol panels separating tables, which were nonetheless appreciated. Our service was relatively slow but cheery and accommodating, so we didn't mind! The crap dip and lobster roll were delectable. Overall a nice cozy vibe with the string lights, intimate seating and memorable hospitality.

Mussels are delicious and the Pad Thai is tasty, but should offer Tofu for Vegans. The Vegan pizza was quite disappointing. It tasted like cardboard with a smear of tomato and artichoke. You should really invest is some Vegan Cheese and Pepperoni which are quite common these days. One of our Pad Thai dishes was supposed to be Vegan, but had chicken. I had to wait forty minutes for a new one. Unacceptable.

Our first visit to Salt Shaker was in 2014. We returned to Lunenburg last week and our first stop was the Salt Shaker. It is our favourite restaurant in Lunenburg and it had the BEST lobster roll of our entire 2 week trip through N.S. and PEI. We had dinner and lunch there last week. And the only reason we didn't go more often was because we wanted to give other restaurants a chance. In the end, the Salt Shaker was still the best. We love the food and the relaxed atmosphere. It is a 5 out of 5 for sure! You can't lose eating here!

Myself and a couple of friends found this spot after a great round of golf at the Bluenose Golf Course and were greeted immediately at the door with a masked covered welcome smile. We were then seated at the bar where we enjoyed the crab dip and chowder, followed by 3 dinner entrees that were absolutely incredible. Patient, extremely efficient and knowledgeable staff made our experience one to remember and we’ll definitely be back. Also, a huge thank you to our server Mckayla (sp?) for going to such great lengths to help me find my misplaced phone!!

We have completely and totally loved visiting this restaurant over the years. It has been a favourite destination, and a draw to come to Lunenburg. Every visit has been perfect, until now. Favourite items have been removed from the menu and service is really challenged, likely due to staffing shortages. The replacement menu choice that was recommended did not measure up to past standards in any way. Glad they removed it from the bill and very hopeful that things will get better. We will check the menu online before going back though.

A group of 6 of us showed up on a pretty busy sunny day in Lunenburg. We were there right as they opened, and there was already a line. We were glad we went early as after we seated we realized the people behind us were going to wait a while! Service was quick and friendly, and we all enjoyed our food. I had the fish cakes, my wife had a fresh pizza, and my other visiting friends also had seafood dishes and everything was great. A recommend for sure, and we'll be back.

We had a single order of the seafood chowder as a takeout item ($13.98 with tax and tip). Food was hot and fresh with better than average flavor. Portion was not generous but was served with a smile. Dining room is small with walk up bar and outdoor seating if available based on the weather. Service was proficient. Business was brisk even during the week in off season. We would go back.

Really cute restaurant that we had looked forward to after reading other reviews. Unfortunately the food didn’t live up to expectations. The seafood chowder was good but served lukewarm. The lobster rolls were not good. They were fairly tasteless. They needed mayonnaise and salt and pepper or something. The bun was nice. The squash apple soup was also served lukewarm and it had way too much sour cream in it. The service was excellent. All the staff we dealt with were great and we feel bad we didn’t love the food

We hoped for a fitting meal to end our trip to Nova Scotia, unfortunately we chose the Salt Shaker. We asked for a table, and where requested to to return in an hour. We did so, and it took over 40 minutes to take our order. The white wine was served warm and our starters were uncooked in the middle and we had to send them back. The mains were only remarkable for being of indifferent quality. This restaurant obviously exists on the situation of the lack of sufficient eateries for Lunenburg and feels it can safely operate with poor service and providing poor quality food.

We checked the reviews ahead of time and they were correct. This was very good meal near the waterfront. In general the food is flavorful and not overly spicy. Food was hot and service was attentive. The beet salad was very good, with a light dressing. We can recommend the Scallop Linguine, made with A&K scallops apparently from A&K across the street. Also the seafood stew, in a not too spicy sauce, plenty of seafood, mussels, etc. Fresh brewed ice tea was a refreshing beverage. Topping it off was a very creamy chocolate mousse.
