We ordered the Thai and Pork take-out dishes during the pandemic and were really happy with both. They were terrific! Looking forward to trying more dishes from this restaurant.

I visit Eleanor and Adrian at Birkinshaws as often as I can. Warm and friendly atmosphere, awesome scones and sweets and as they say the best coffee in town! If you have a chance the cream tea special is great and ANY of their afternoon...teas will blow you away. Definitely stop by if you can, you will love it!More
The interior of this little restaurant is so charming, set up for comfort and relaxing with friends and family over delicious coffee and beautifully prepared meals and desserts. I've been to this restaurant numerous times and all visits have been wonderful. A special place to...dine in our small town.More
Definitely worth trying. Fresh, tasty main dishes and wonderful deserts. Small establishment. Give iy a try
Stopped in for late morning cream tea. Parking is easy. They offer two types of cream tea: Nova Scotia (which highlights local flavors such as pumpkin and spiced scones with local fruit jams- HIGHLY recommend) as well as traditional cream tea with plain scones and...currant scones. Both versions come with house made clotted cream (which is heavenly). Tea selection is fine but the baked goods are honestly more impressive. While we didn’t order from the full menu with entrees, everything looked delicious. Dishes had a more international palate than would be expected. Most likely the best restaurant in town. Atmosphere inside was charming and quiet, even once it filled up. Must do in Amherst!More
We had a potato/broccoli/cheese soup and a Windsor pie. Both were delicious, very pleasant hosts! We’ll go back.
We have visited the restaurant on different occasions, for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea. All were very pleasant experiences, Amherst is one hour drive from where we live ( New Brunswick) but it is always worth the drive. Looking forward to Thanksgiving tea in 2...weeks.More
Our chowder and fish creole was very good but the highlight of the stop was the sticky toffee pudding, wow. The restaurant was cool enough that you had to keep your jacket on though. The server was feeling his way a bit but did just...fine.More
We were thrilled when Birkinshaw's put on a Curry Night and saddened when it was sold out.... so they put on another one.... excellent variety of curries.... especially loved the fish curry... and choice of rice. Would love to try some of the other curries...the next time we go. Great Service!!! Wonderful food!!More
Very disappointing experience. We went in on Saturday for “brunch” and had read ahead to expect a smaller/lighter menu. Ploughman’s salad plate and Croque Monsieur were the only two options. Only 2 options. So, you’d think they had plenty of dessert options, especially when they...hand you the “menu” with a gigantic list...of things they don’t actually have any of. Hunh? When we asked our server what bakery items they had - cause the menu says to ask - we were told that all they had were the things in a display case, none of which looked inviting (can’t remember if they have 5 things or 6). I guess you can get something decent here if you’re willing to fork out the big bucks for their afternoon tea service, but we wanted to do a trial run first and boy am I glad we did. After dropping fifty bucks for three desserts and drinks, we left and went next door to get sandwiches. Lured in by outstanding reviews and breathtaking pictures, we learned an expensive lesson. Nothing was bad, but nothing was really good, and the lack of choices was actually silly. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT.More
