I would take a trip to Crawford Bay to just go eat at Black Salt Cafe. I’m a foodie and this place was amazing! It was a very random stop and became the food highlight of our trip.
Besides the food, the service was excellent as was the ambiance. Outside you are able to sit in a very quaint patio with lush plants, shade umbrellas, and rockery. Truly a beautiful setting! A place that you feel relaxed and able to gather yourself after a long trip. Inside, there are beautiful wooden tables, hand carved stools, and beautiful artwork.
Everyone from the waitress to the chef were too botch with their customer service. They were friendly, prompt, and attentive.
Now for the food. We ordered two house recipe drinks and they were devine! You could tell the ingredients were fresh and perfectly blended. To accompany the drinks we enjoyed some pomme frites and I’m not exaggerating when I tell you they are the best fries I have ever had! We asked for their garlic aioli and it just elevated the already delicious fries and I a new level. While we were not hungry enough to order more food (which was truly sad) we did watch as all menu items left the kitchen and I don’t think there was anything that didn’t look amazing. Guests were thoroughly enjoying their aintrees. Upon leaving we took a lemon bar to go. Of course it was delicious, smooth velvet lemon custard on top with a buttery shortbread crust.
We will be back! Just not as soon as I would like.

What a gem if you are a “foodie” and enjoy leisurely dining! Their tapas plates are designed for sharing. At the advice of other patrons we limited our choices to two do we could enjoy the amazing array of desserts. Started with the tempura veggies accompanied by the prawns. Both were delicious. Finished off with the strawberry cheesecake and chocolate torta! Wow!
Everything was so good we returned a second night and stopped for desserts to go for the trip home. NOTE the hamburger looked scrumptious served with the skinny truffle fries!

The food, staff and atmosphere here are amazing. I’ve seen a few negative reviews related to the time it takes for service but to be honest, if you go there and take time to relax and enjoy the wonderful patio, the staff and food are VERY worth any wait. We were there last night and had to come back a second night just because the food was spectacular. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Todd made some amazing after dinner drink recommendations which juts added to the experience. Definitely the place to be if you’re in for a unique and what I imagine to be a wonderfully authentic Kootenay dining experience. 10/10

I am so glad that my husband and I stopped here on our way through Crawford Bay. Fortunately, other Trip Advisors reviewers recommended The Black Salt Cafė and I am so thankful for it. The staff were friendly and helpful, and prompt, despite our province’s ongoing staffing shortages in the restaurant industry. As well, the beautiful garden patio was sublime. However, the food is what truly makes this place. Excellent menu, tons of selection and quality, quality, quality!

Ate here once for dinner and once for a take out. Excellent food with lots of local produce. You do not come away fro here hungry!
We had the strips of sirloin burger, Tempura salmon burger, their version of a Reuben ("Old Koot Sandwich")
Sit inside or out and they were very good addressing Covid problems and we felt very safe there

I was recommended this café by a bar tender in another town, so stopped in when I was passing through for a bite. I am so glad I did. The coffee and small cake that I had was excellent, and I also enjoyed a vege panini. Definitely worth a stop if you're into Italian-influenced cuisine or just a good cup of coffee.

outdoor seating was great as we were surrounded by lilies and assorted shrubs and flowers. undered staffed but the meal was excellent. We shared the polenta fries which were very flavorful. I had the tandoori chicken ,so so but the veggies were really good. Wife had a cowboy burger excellent. Wife enjoyed a excellent cocktail.

We found the food delicious, unique and colorful. The atmosphere was charming on the patio and they accommodated our group size of 6 well. However, the food came out VERY slowly and item by item. My mother and I shared tapas, they came out 1 at a time 20 minutes apart. The rest of the group sat there starving watching us eat our food and then when we were done we sat there watching them eat their entire meals. I would definitely recommend this restaurant for the food, not the service.

The Black Salt Cafe is a Diamond in the rough. Ok…not trashing the other eateries in this postal code, but the BSC is no question a quantum leap above in creativity and quality of food. Go there, order, be patient. You’ll thank me later. Bon Appetito 😊

We stopped for lunch after experiencing the world's longest free ferry ride. What a find!
It was hard to decide what to choose from the menu, but we did. We watched other guests being served and wondered if we had made the right choice. EVERYTHING looked SO good. We were really happy with our choice, i think anything on the menu would have been the right choice.
Wish it was closer so i could visit regularly

Saw this place listed and thought it might be a great place to stop on our travels around the area.
Very cool interior. We sat on the patio, as it was too lovely a day to sit inside.
Staff were great.
This place was a find. Next time we find ourselves in nelson or near by, we will be back.
Staff were great. Hate it when you feel they forgot you were there.

Fabulous menu, and creative dishes. But make sure you have atleast 90 min. It was a Saturday off the ferry and already 4 tables. If you have time, then enjoy the menu.

Great restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Only great place to eat in Crawford Bay. Everything is good. Try the desserts. Try anything. It is all great and the staff and owner are wonderful.
