Always a great meal here. Outdoor patio. Great wine list. Recommend the Veal Scallopine Marsala. Cut it with a fork. Salads and vegetables always fresh. Pasta homemade.

I live on Vancouver Island and was looking for a venue in West Vancouver for my mother’s 90th birthday dinner celebration for 14 or 15 people at the end of June. I had heard good things about Mangia E Bevi and they had good reviews...so I called them in late April to ask about the restaurant, stressing that we needed a quiet and warm venue for my mother and wondering if they could accommodate that. I was told their ‘Wine Cellar” is a smaller semi-private area that is quiet and the temperature is easily controlled (relative to the open restaurant area) and that our group could be in that room. They added that there might be a few small tables in addition to ours, but it would still be quiet. The person I was speaking with said that Sundays (our night) are relatively quiet and the patio is open in late June so we would likely have the room to ourselves. It sounded perfect and I made a reservation for 15 based on that room. (One couple on our guest list had been to the restaurant before and commented that it was quite loud, but I said I had dealt with that by booking the Wine Cellar.) My partner and I were in Vancouver in early May and went to Mangia E Bevi for dinner, to ensure it would be suitable for the birthday dinner. The food and service were very good but the area we were seated in (not the Wine Cellar) was quite loud. We checked out the Wine Cellar and it seemed great. I confirmed our reservation three days before our dinner, reduced our number to 12 due to illness and all was fine. I was told that if we wanted to ensure we had the Wine Cellar completely to ourselves we could buy it out for $1,500 but as we had been told there might only be a few small additional tables in that room we did not do the buy-out, but were still assured our table would be in that room. We arrived at the restaurant, just prior to it opening, to drop off table decorations and cakes (allergy issues) and were told then that they were putting a larger party in the Wine Cellar (but not a ‘buy-out’) and that we had been relocated to the main restaurant area, specifically near the front doors. I was advised by the hostess that it was a quiet area, but it was also evident that there was no option available to us at that point and it was too late to go elsewhere. The table itself was small and very cramped for 12 people. As the restaurant filled up it got very loud and my mother, who was seated in the middle of the table, complained that she could not hear any of the conversation at our table. The main entry door was adjacent and open, plus the air conditioning was on so it was cold. Our server tried hard, but she had numerous tables, she was rushed, some of our guests were not offered coffee while some were, and it felt by all of us that we were being rushed through our evening. On the positive (there always has to be something positive), everyone enjoyed their meals. Overall, because our seating area – the entire basis of our reservation - was changed and thus the noise and temperature were a significant factor, our evening that was supposed to be a celebration of 90 good years turned out to be sub-par. I phoned the restaurant four days later to discuss my concerns and was advised that they had been extremely busy that night and had many walk-ins, but it was evident that our table arrangements had been changed before they opened and certainly before any ‘walk-ins’ materialized. I was told that the owner would call me back to discuss it further but as of now, 11 days, later there has been no call. Our specific requests regarding the seating area and temperature had been agreed upon but without any notice to us they were changed and that had a direct impact on our celebration. I will not return and from the comments of our guests they will not either.More

The rack of lamb with the Dijon-rosemary crust was deeeeeeelicious. No room for dessert, but my tastebuds were left totally satisfied.

Mangia E Bevi is a bit of Italian magic in the heart of West Vancouver. The food is authentic, adventurous, and delicious. The wine list is well-considered, and the service is impeccable. Try going midweek, so you have room and time to explore all their...delicacies. If you are lucky, you might get a visit from Chef Rob Parrot!More

As good as ever. The short rib special was superb and so were the Vesuvio and Roberto. Excellent cocktails. The service was efficient. Three cocktails and a bottle of Antinori Vie Cave Malbec, the total cost was Can$279 for four people. That’s Can$70 a head...(£45 Sterling) which for a restaurant of this quality is a bargain.More

My wife and I are recent residents to West Vancouver. A friend recommended Mangia E Bevi for dinner. We were not dissapointed. The service was excellent from our warm receiption by the host to the attentive service by our waiter Ken. Although we had reserved...a table on the patio, we decided to sit inside the restaurant as the weather was very hot. The operators of the restaurant have created a good ambience and we really enjoyed the quiet background music which encompassed an unobtrusive fine jazz piano selection. To start I ordered the beef carpaccio and my wife, the caeser salad. Both were excellent. For our main course my wife ordered the potato crusted halibut which was superbly cooked. I had the tagliolini frutti di mare. I highly recommend this dish for pasta lovers. The tagliolini was cooked to prefection and was enhanced by the delicious combined flavours of sea food, tomato and peperoccino. We treated ourselves to desert and ordered the frangelico infused creme caramel and the chocolate sorbet, neither of which dissapointed. In summary I highly recommend Mangia e Bevi; delicious cuisine, excellent attentive service combined with reasonable prices and a first rate ambienceMore

This was one of our favorite restaurants and during virus restrictions we often had takeout which was excellent. Our recent return to in-person was shockingly disappointing. There was only one waiter for the large number of tables and the bus-persons who tried hard were inexperienced...and sort of lost. The bottle of white wine was too warm and even getting the attention of a server to ask for ice was difficult. Food was good but served in a random way and pasta dishes were not hot when served (too long waiting in the kitchen?) and it took much too long to get a server to bring parmesan cheese. Really do hope that the owners will make necessary changes to return this restaurant to its previous excellence.More

My husband and I came here for dinner last night for the first time, but it was the third time for our friends who were with us. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and offers dine in, outside and take out. It was a chilly...night so we dined in. The menu offers a lot of different items and gluten free options (which I need). But the prices are a little high for my liking. Starters: Carpaccio Cremoso, Insalata Lattuga, Zuppa di Cavolfiore, and Insalata Mista - All good, but the Isalata Lattuga was small for the high price Mains: Three of us had the Scaloppine Marsala and I had the special of Scallops over risotto - They were all very good but I think the Scallop special was too expensive when you just get three scallops, but the risotto was the best I had ever tasted. Sides: Spinach with Blue Cream Cheese and Mixed Grilled Vegetables - good and reasonable price Dessert: This is one of the reasons for a lower rating by me. Our friends split the Ciliege Galani and my husband and I shared Torta Al Limone E Pinoli and a Creme Brulee - All the desserts were priced the same, but the Ciliege Galani was huge and was good for two people. The Creme Brulee was enough for two people because it was so rich that only one person wouldn't be able to finish it. Now the Torta Al Limone was the biggest disappointment. It was small and very thin. They could easily had made it twice as thick for the price we paid. It did taste very good. Now, the service was mixed. It started out very good with us getting looked after by 3 different wait staff for different things. But as the meal progressed, the service got much slower. I guess because it was an early dinner and the restaurant started getting busy later. The service got to the point that it took a while to order dessert, to have the dessert come, to ask for the bills and the bills to come. And then when the bills finally came, two of our dishes got on our friends bill. They took them back to correct and they got them wrong again. When they took them back a second time, they came back and said they had to leave the bills as is because their system wouldn't allow them to change them. What? I suggested they start over and was told they couldn't do that either. It was only a $7 difference and I was about to have our friends pay us the difference when our waiter swooped in and took the bills again and came back with the two sides taken off the bills. My friends really like this restaurant, but my husband and I are in no hurry to come back again.More

We have frequently dined at Mangia E Bevi and have introduced many family members and friends to this fine restaurant. In all the years that we have dined here we have never been disappointed. Last evening was no exception. We had a lovely table on...the patio and we had to good fortune to have Gordon as our server. Gordon was very professional but he has a genuine warmth that puts you at ease. He also has a dry sense of humour that we really appreciated. We never had to top up our wine glasses at all during the evening. Conversation with Gordon was very easy but he was never intrusive. I must say in all fairness that we’ve never experienced poor or even just average service at Mangia E Bevi but have always felt like very welcome guests. The food is amazing as usual. Focaccia bread accompanied by olive oil and vinegar was brought to the table while we perused the menu. Gordon gave us a very good description of the evening specials. We ordered one of our favorite pastas – spaghetti Mangia E. Bevi – spaghetti with minced chicken, black beans and chili. It is not on the regular menu but you can order it on request. It is wonderful. Not like your usual pastas. We ordered a bottle of white wine to have with our meal. For entrees my husband had the Cornish game hen. It was a perfectly cooked hen, moist and flavourful and served with roast potatoes and vegetables. I ordered the tenderloin, rare and it was perfectly cooked. The steak came with warm mushroom salad, scalloped potatoes and spinach. All of the food was delicious and reasonably priced for the quality. It was another wonderful evening at Mangia E Bevi with wonderful warm service from Gordon, delicious food from the kitchen, a lovely ambiance sitting on the patio on a warm summer’s evening and reasonable prices. It doesn’t get any better than this. Covid protocols were well adhered to. There was hand sanitizer on the entrance table and the tables were well spaced apart.More

Good discount on food and also from the extensive wine list. And, of course...the food was excellent!!! I have started out by giving this restaurant 5 stars because I truly think it is an excellent restaurant. However, we called last night to order pick up and was flabbergasted by the treatment we got over the phone. The gentleman was abrupt, rude and...not helpful at all. My daughter was craving gnocchi and so she sweetly asked for that. We know gnocchi is on the menu as it is a side with one of the meat dishes. The gentleman said "No". She then recalled that her best friend ordered it a few days ago so she then asked "can I replace gnocchi with another pasta" to which he said "yes". Rudely and abruptly I might add. So why not be a little more informative and tell us that instead of having us fish for it. At that point, my daughter handed me the phone because she didn't want to speak to him anymore. I was also craved pasta and was asking for some recommendations to which he keeps replying "look online". I am trying to tell him I can't look online because I am speaking with him on the phone. Anyways, we then hand the phone to my husband who it appears he recognizes and starts to change his tune. Our experience was not very pleasant and we felt like we were really bothering this person. If I was sitting in his restaurant, like I have many, many times, I would be asking for recommendations and suggestions anyways. Isn't that part of the whole experience? When everything opens back up, I will definitely think twice about going there! You would think that during these crazy unprecedented times we are that he should be feeling blessed and thankful that he is operating and open for business and has a job!More
