Soft and mushy, poor quality cod fish. Clam chowder had lots of fillers like potato, taste was below average. Though location is great, would suggest to give this a miss.

Casual, crowded at lunch. I had a four hour wait for the ferry and a gale was blowing, so I chose the restaurant closest to where I'd parked. It was busy, but they were well- staffed with friendly and cheerful young guys, mostly. I had...to ask someone at the next table for their extra napkin and flatware after my food came, but that was ok. The waiters were fine, but clearly not career waiters. The food was mediocre. The clam chowder was flavourless. There were bits of clams in it, bits of bacon, carrots and cubes of potatoes, and the texture was ok, but it was entirely bland. There was vinegar on the table (essential for fish and chips) so I added a little which cheered it up enough to eat. The yam fries were good but came lukewarm, and the chipotle mayo was more like tartar sauce. So, yeah, the food wasn't very good, but still ... I enjoyed being in that big, crowded dining room with my fellow travelers and the smiling waiters, the gale howling outside. It isn't always just about the food.More
Not the first time I’ve been to! Stopped in for a quick bite waiting for the ferry. I ordered the Yellow Fin Burger and Fries washed down with a Caesar. Tuna was cooked perfectly, the pickle onion is a great touch. Typical bar fries, my...Caesar was good.More
I can’t think of a better day out than a trip out to Horse Shoe Bay and a take of fish and chips from Trolls. Staff are friendly, spacious restaurant, little outdoor patio if you prefer, great views of ferry’s coming and going, food is...greatMore
Worst fish and chips I have ever had. Based on reviews we read we decided to go. We always go to C-Lovers, they have the best fish and chips. Not greasy, and very cro. Trolls was very greasy and their portion of coleslaw was a...joke! I will never go back. C-Lovers it is, always. Large portions and tasty fish.More
Was catching a ferry and decided to eat here first. I had some very Tasty fish and chips at a very reasonable prices. We also had a breakfast. Service was excellent , they are extremely busy at times but have enough staff to make it...a good experience.would definitely recommend.More
We hadn't been here for a couple of years and remembered the fish and chips were okay. Today tried Joe's soup and the clam chowder both were awful, tasting like colored emulsifier (one a weird pink the other a lumpy white) with shrimp and fish...bits that had been over-cooked to paste and not a single clam in the chowder but plenty of potato. The kids had burgers that were dry. The order was screwed up as we'd ordered salad and get fries instead. Way over-priced. We were unable to finish the meal. A never again experience.More
The food was incredible!! The curried chicken was so tasty and authentic and the chicken caesar salad was huge and so tender. Our waitress Meryl went above and beyond to make our ferry waiting and dining experience delightful!! Wonderful experience and the place was hopping!!
Our family had not gathered at Trolls for over a decade. We were celebrating my son’s daughter’s sixteenth birthday. We were seated promptly (had a reservation), and our orders taken. Some appetizers made their appearance within minutes, and were simply scrumptious! Crab cakes, soft cod...tacos that had my grandson in raptures. Because the calamari was a shared plate and part of a main selection, it was delayed. It was the only disappointment of all the food ordered. It could have been crispier and the larger pieces were rubbery. Sadly unseasoned, it didn’t strike the right notes, as the crab cakes had done. My son enjoyed his old favourite, fish and chips. I noticed a few of the chips looked to have black spots on them, as if the potatoes had bad spots. The battered cod was crisp and flavourful, just as remembered. He enjoyed a frosty IPA with it and was a happy man. The birthday girl enjoyed her share of calamari along with her Caesar salad, which she loved, while her sister, who ordered the poutine, was full very quickly and arranged to have the rest to go. The burgers were incredible, full of flavour, on warm, toasted buns, with lots of veggies and other toppings. I chose an item new to me. - grilled salmon with a delicate lemon dill sauce, whipped potatoes and red and yellow cubes of beets and parsnip. The salmon was sublime, soft as butter, richly luxurious. The beets were a delightful addition, almost a garnish that complemented the salmon perfectly. I’m still enjoying the memory 24 hours later. If you go to Troll’s, I recommend it!! But there’s so much more to enjoy. The view of Howe Sound is breathtaking. Ferries come and go regularly, and it’s a place for people watching. Wrap-around windows allow ample light and the comings and goings of the village of Horseshoe Bay. Troll’s prices are very reasonable, and the service is quite good. I don’t care for hovering servers, and ours was perfect, there when we needed her, cheerful and efficient, as we were served by several young people. The warm spirits of Joe Troll and his son,, Gary, were evident in this unpretentious diner-style restaurant that shows a heart. We won’t wait so long to return!More
My gf and I came here for lunch n came here years ago and the food has not changed , was very good , will come again
We have been Enjoying Troll's for 50 Years at Horseshoe Bay. It was Always a Treat Best Location, Tasty Food, Good Atmosphere. Often Stopped In to just Grab Food to Go as Well. We Always made it a Regular Stop while in Vancouver. My Last...Meal and Service was Disappointing and Questioning Whether I will return? Maybe, it was part of the Covid thing creating havoc on all business. I will give it 1 more try in the Future, as it was Always Good Previously.More
We have only ordered take out from Trolls a couple of times. Once about a year ago, it was decent, but they forgot to give us one of two bags so we had to make two trips at pick up time resulting in a cold,...late dinner. We lost a good restaurant in the neighbourhood recently so thought we’d give Trolls another shot. Identical scenario. Only one of two bags was given when we picked up our take out, so back we had to go. It was frustrating to have this be our second experience with this local restaurant, we really had high hopes. Despite this I offer three stars because the burgers were actually pretty decent, lots of toppings, cooked through and the overall experience would have been so much better if the staff had just remembered to give us all of our paid for food in advance (we even tipped ahead of time!) Maybe next year will be third time lucky 🫤More
We went to Troll's for lunch. Never again the food was disgusting and the service was atrocious. We were over charged for a terrible experience. I get better hamburgers at McDonald's
Visited with high expectations, left highly disappointed. Haddock was over cooked, bland and mushy. Batter crispy but tasteless. Chips were chips. I had to ask for vinegar, which came in sachets. Daughters chicken fingers where like hard rubber, she did well eating two of them....I tried the third one bite it once and apologized to her. Reading the positive reviews here makes me wonder what other peoples previous experience must be? I visited the bathroom on the way out, gross.More
I went there for lunch and was told i had to wait until the system allowed lunch orders- fine. The order I got was NOT the one I asked for and I told the staff who brought me a corrected plate. Trouble is it WASN"T....The chips were undercooked and one of the pieces of halibut (I assume it was Halibut but couldn't taste the halibut flavor) was ALSO undercooked. No waitress came around asking me how my meal was so when I paid I told the girl and no attempt at compensation, like not charging me for the soda I had. Definitely gone way downhill and doubt I'll be returning for at least a dozen yearsMore
