Looks like the Blackrock is submitting reviews on its own behalf...shameful.... We had dinner here for a special event. The Halibut was amazing but the clams had broken shells and sand in them. Highly disappointing and I had to be careful not to break a tooth. Unclean clams...I shoukd have sent them back really. The bread that came with them was so burnt my husband couldn't eat his. Our server was amazing, however.

We had a lovely dinner for two overlooking the sunset on the Pacific Ocean. Currents is a pretty setting with stunning views. The food was also very good. We shared a beet salad and enjoyed freshly baked sourdough bread. Local salmon was the special so my partner had that while I had a perfectly cooked steak. Their smashed potatoes were simply amazing! Accompanied by a nice bottle of BC wine - it was a lovely dinner.

We went at opening time so wasn’t busy which we thought would be good. The menu was very limited in options which was hard I ended having chicken breast which was very dry in fairness the sauce was tasty. My wife had Halibut which was just warm. Also the service left a little to be desired as the staff didn’t appear to be able to answer simple questions about the Menu and how things were prepared. It was disappointing to see the least as we were expecting so much more. We did eat at the Hotel Lounge upon our arrival which was so much better.

It is a play on words but one which gets to the truth: Current Restaurant at the Black Rock Resort (BR) in the spectacular West Coast ocean village of Ucluelet ROCKS. And this it does on many fronts. Firstly: It looks over the mesmerizing Pacific Ocean. The layout of the restaurant affords all in the 90-capacity eatery a view; the food is fresh & imaginatively prepared & plated; the drinks menus offers a good selection; & the serving, busing & kitchen staff are superb. I had eaten an early dinner in BR’s Big Beach Bar & Lounge & had been very well served by its bar staff on duty that night, as I usually & happily am, but when live music began at 7pm, I was not in the mood & preferred a bit of quiet, albeit the singer was good & guests seemed to enjoy his performance. I was still just a bit hungry, & thought I may slip over to BR’s more formal Currents for a small appetizer. I had a small tuna dish with the pieces very thinly sliced with a nice light & tasty dressing with some crisped sweet potato pieces on top & accompanied by sticks of things like apple. It was 22$. It came with a complimentary bread basket, as all dishes do, which was nice but could have been just a little more frisky. I had craft beer @ 8$ to sip, while I watched the sunset. I was served by Kathy, who was most attentive & friendly, going out of her way to see I was looked after. I received good care & attention, as well, from her serving colleague, Melissa, & the busing person — who was from Germany & charming. Thank you all three. Previously I have had great service from Sim, another of the servers. BR gives locals a 10 pct discount, which is a good incentive for them to come in, presumably giving custom needed & welcome in the months before the summer tourists arrive. My bill came to 39$ plus before tip. BR asks guests monthly to note good service on a card, which affords one the opportunity to name “Black Rock Stars” at the front desk. After my meal I went straight to name all three, as Rock Stars after a great night. I did so last month for Sim too. The ever charming Craig @ the front desk was there to take my cards Posted by S Fuller

Our family group of 4 stayed at Black Rock recently , 2 of us having travelled from overseas . We ate at the restaurant on our first night and were so disappointed with with the quality of food and how overpriced it was. The beef carpaccio was presented on nearly raw rice . The fish entree was so spiced that there was no flavour of fish in it. The pasta wasn’t cooked enough and the butter sauce swamped the plate . For a nice resort , we were very disappointed with the quality and chose to self cater in our room the next night to avoid further disappointment

We stayed at Black Rock Resort because of its amazing location and facilities. Currents delivered all all counts - service, food quality, atmosphere and view. We chose a 3 course, fixed price option, with a wine pairing per course. Ling cod "shoulder" was the first course and was an amazing presentation. Ling Cod was substituted for Halibut for the main (we were advised before ordering) but it did not disappoint. The dessert presentation was just as uniquely presented and tasty. Wine portions were adequate with a spontaneous top up provided on one. Service was impeccable. We had the same great experiences for 2 breakfasts in the restaurant. Prices were reasonable.

Nice location. Very nice service. Food was less optimal. Had the lamb dish which was good. Salad was tasty but small. The special disk called “tidal bounty” was unfortunately memorable for been very stingy. The bowl was big when it first came but it was half full with mostly clams. When the server pour the cup soup in, it barely wet the contents. I think the name “bounty” is definitely an exaggeration.

Expected great things based on a beautiful view and a very nice hotel room. It was the worst meal of the trip. We ordered only mains as we could see it was busy, but 1hr 20 mins to get any food was much too long. And when it came the portions were small or very small. The special - a ravioli - was 4 mouthfuls. MY wife and daughter were left really hungry, but we dare not order desserts or we would still be there. The fish broth was absolutely tasteless and with very little fish. The best meal was my sons childrens cheeseburger! Really really disappointing. Avoid and go to the lounge bar of the hotel for some bar food, this is perfectly good and arrives much quicker!

We are so sorry that this was your experience. Our team works very hard to take care of all of our guests. We are glad to see that you did enjoy Big Beach Lounge and that satisfied your family.

Currents Restaurant, at The Black Rock, in the spectacular ocean village of Ucluelet, will be closed from today for dinner — Jan 7 — until January 22 but will still be serving breakfast daily from 7:30 to 11:30 am. The Black Rock Resort has two venues at which to eat dinner so those wanting dinner overlooking the Pacific ocean can still get it at its Big Beach Lounge,(BBL) which has a good & extensive menu, good offerings of beers & a pleasing wine list. It is open 3 to 9pm, 7 days a week. Here is a plan for Jan. A big breakfast at Currents Restaurant — it has a good & large selection of dishes & good offerings for vegetarians, vegans & gluten free — then a walk along nearby Wild Pacific trail, also stopping to watch the waves crashing in at one of the ocean village’s beaches — Big Beach, Little Beach or Brown’s Beach — then a late lunch or dinner@ BBL Posted by S Fuller

Current, the 90-seat restaurant, at the Black Rock Resort (BR) in Ucluelet, where every seat has a good view, gets five-stars at all levels, beginning with its spectacular location and stunning view. It is perched high and looks over the Pacific Ocean. It was created just over a decade ago, soon attracting a local following, and capturing the imagination of visitors from elsewhere. Its food, service, wine, beer and cocktail list continues at the five-star level, as does its service. It is open for a long breakfast, then closing to open at 5:30 pm for dinner. On the weekends it does a brunch from 8 am to 1:30 pm. Its three menus offering a good food selection; its good wine, beer, and cocktail menu, along with the attentive and friendly service all come together to provide the perfect experience. BR’s Big Beach lounge, open daily from 3pm to 10, also has some good views over Big Beach, from which it takes it name; nice menus and live music some nights. BR provides a harmony of pleasing elements. And there is a wonderful spa on site. Posted by S Fuller

I visited Currents twice during my stay at the Black Rock Resort, once for dinner and once for breakfast. Dinner: An excellent romantic evening for my husband and I. Our waiter Grayson (sp?) was friendly and knowledgeable about the food and beverage selection. Drinks: a Seaside Shaft and a Fuzzy Buffalo! Appetizer: Bread! Really tasty bread. Mains: Husband got the catch of the day, which was Sablefish, paired with celery root, beets, green beans, and roasted barley. I got “Slow braised lamb stew with saffron rice, candied orange, pistachios and Persian spiced jus” and it just *fell apart*. My god I have never had lamb that good in my life. Dessert: Salted Butter Caramel and Chocolate Tart with hazelnuts and raspberry sorbet. DIVINE. Breakfast the next morning was a standard sausage breakfast with scrambled eggs for my husband, and Eggs Benedict with wild salmon for myself. Perfect eggs, excellent sausage. A++ incredible food. Comparable in price to the Keg but much better quality. I would absolutely go here for dinner and breakfast again.

We had dinner at the Currents restaurant on June 12th to celebrate our parent's anniversary and it was probably one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever had. Even though there were limited choices on the menu (which we were fine with), most of it was poorly prepared which resulted in us returning it to the kitchen. For one, the Beef Stroganoff was overly salty so it was barely edible for my expecting wife. When we told our waitress, she spoke with the kitchen and the chef explained that the prep cook prepared the sauce. We asked if they could make us another one (again, limited menu) but they said they won't be able to prepare a new sauce, which is shocking. With an already limited menu, my wife decided to go with an appetizer as none of the other entrees worked for her. I'm really not sure which is more surprising - the chef not tasting the food before it goes out, or his inability or unwillingness to dilute or make a new sauce? Secondly, the Quinoa salad entree was again overly salty to the point that it was completely inedible. When we brought the concerns to the waitress, again the chef explained to the waitress that the prep cook prepared it, so they were in the back "cursing him for it". They didn't offer or try to remake it, so we had to order something else. Again, apparently these chefs do not taste the food that they prepare. Thirdly, every fries order that we had (with sandwiches / burgers / fish) were soggy. The "chips" that came with our Albacore Tuna appetizer were like eating rubber. I've never had chewy "crispy" chips. One thing to note, we were explained by the waitress that dinner service would be slower as the kitchen is understaffed, however, after waiting an hour for our appetizers and then ANOTHER half an hour for our entrees, you would expect them to be properly prepared, especially being pretty simple pub-styled food. The most disappointing part was we were never offered anything in terms of a discount (for the mishaps) or some sort of appetizer / drink while we were waiting. Not that it was expected, but it would've been a nice gesture for their comedy of errors. They sure made our parent's anniversary dinner special, but not in good way. We were extremely disappointed with how it was handled and will definitely not come again.

We loved this place and went back twice. The first time we went to the bar and then had dinner in the restaurant. The second time we went to the bar and had a smaller meal there. The location is gorgeous. Fantastic views and the resort looks quite beautiful although a little grand for funky Ucluelet. The meal at Currents was superb. The portions are small but I appreciate that as I don't like gigantic portions. I would rather pay a bit more and have excellent food in a smaller size than a massive plate that is cheaper but mediocre. The fish is incredibly fresh and cooked perfectly. We had a delightful server - I forget his name but he was wonderful. The bar has a great view - excellent cocktails and the food is also good there. The french fries were killer. I just had to have them. I would go back again for sure

Currents, the restaurant at Ucluelet’s BlackRock Oceanfront Resort, has 90 dining seats of which all have a view of spectacular Pacific Ocean vistas. Food is ocean friendly in all ways. The menus are culinary adventures with dishes ranging from sumptuous steaks at 41$, to the fish catch of the day, cooked with” love and restraint “ at MP, depending on what the sea offers up each day. Service is also friendly. There are many good reasons to visit Currents. Breakfast is from 8 to 11 am, with brunch on Saturday & Sunday extending the time to 1pm. Dinner is from 5:30 pm. On both menus, options are extensive, & include dishes for children. I am in Ucluelet this November, & so far the weather this week is perfect, showing the Pacific waters twinkling in the sunny surrounds. The Wild Pacific trail, which attracts people from around the world to this west coast rainforest, is just steps away, & perfect to work off one’s meal. Posted by S Fuller

We did not make a reservation, so we had a delightful early dinner in the bar watching the awesome view of waves crashing into the lava rocks. We started the scallops and seafood chowder, which were both amazing. We moved on to the halibut and fish & chips. My husband and as extremely pleased with the halibut and the cod chunks were big with a light batter. We had wine and local beer. Couldn’t stop there( after all, it was an anniversary) I had the chocolate orange dessert and my husband had an Irish coffee. We had an exemplary meal served by Carly, a one woman show due to shortness of staff.
