With day light coming earlier now we are in spring & in daylight savings time, an increasing number are catching an early coffee or tea & breakfast at The Barkley Cafe (TBC) It opens at 7am & thus earlier than most places in Ucluelet, the...spectacular ocean village on Canada’s Wild West coast, thereby enabling people to grab a drink & brekkie & to be up & at it before many are stirring from a night’s sleep. This early start makes it popular & appealing to a number of groups: Surfers wanting to catch a wave or two before work; those who need a early start breakfast before setting out on their journey, onwards or back home; those wanting to fuel up early for a day at work, or those wanting to revel in the stunning early mornings in Ukee —as locals affectionately refer to their ocean village. With spring here, the Easter long weekend almost upon us & summer on the horizon, it will become increasingly busy, so, as the saying goes, the early bird catches the worm, get there early to secure a seat. One of reasons people come to TBC is the friendly service one receives in this family-run business —with owner, Craig & partner Rene, & Craig’s teenage daughter there to serve its delicious baked goods & mindfully made dishes, which include the “usual breakfast suspects”, & also wonderful coffee in all its iterations, its ethically sourced teas & its wholesome soups & sandwich selection for lunch. Its prices offer value. It closes at 2 pm. TBC is committed to sustainability, be it its packaging — also for takeout —its sourcing & shipping, & its composting. Its coffee grounds are composted in its back garden where it grows herbs to flavor its foods. It gets its coffee from Fantastica in Victoria & its tea from across the road at Thay Teas (TT). Both TBC & TT are conveniently located on Ukee’s central street, Peninsula, as they are committed to ethical production. Parking is plentiful. TBC has lot of reasons which draw customers to it — locals & visitors alike Posted by S FullerMore

Stopped here for a quick bite to eat at lunch. The menu options were limited but the options we choose were delicious (breakfast wrap and the panini of the day). Wouldn’t hesitate to stop by here again.

We had the English muffin with egg, bacon, Pico, cheese, and mayo. Tastes good. Service was prompt and friendly though there was a short line at 9 am on a weekday.

Best coffee in Ukee by far! We've just spent 2weeks in Ucluelet ( an extended stay due to Hwy 4 being closed) and this was our morning coffee spot. GREAT coffee and the Orange/cranberry muffins were delicious.

I liked this little cafe and bakery. The coffee and muffin were good. I know the pace of life is its a bit slow in this part of the world and I like that, but they were very slow in serving. Other than that a...great little place.More

Small, busy cafe with good food. We visited on a rainy morning so it was particularly busy and the staff were working over time but drinks were a little slow to come out and lots of people waiting. Not a huge amount of seating/space when...it gets busy. On a normal day, I would definitely recommend as a great cosy cafe with good food and service.More

One fateful day not so, so long ago, I got a breakfast sandwich here. It was the stuff dreams were made of. Been there twice now in as many months and the magic is gone. Coffee was still good, but the burrito and the bagel(s)...innards were as stone cold as the day they were pre-fab’d. It didn’t need to end like this… (sigh)More

Easy walking distance from many motels in Ucluelet. Great coffee and excellent baked goods (muffins, etc.) to start your day.

I love muffins. These are the best. They were warm, fresh out of the oven in the morning. I had died and gone to heaven.

We visited on more than one occasion, afternoons are the best times. Mornings are super busy, no competition I feel, 35 mins wait from order to coffee in hands. It’s lovely coffee, but seriously time issues here.

For $11 they really should try harder with the burrito. It was a sloppy messy that seemed either microwaved nor not put in the press long enough. Hard to call unless you saw it. Chorizo was not grilled, not boiled, not sure…Coffee was ok. A...coffee shop should have great coffee , not ok stuff. Leave that to the diner across the street.More
