Zoe’s Bakery & Cafe, in the eye-watering West Coast ocean village of Ucluelet, has a good number of mouth- watering locations at which to eat &/or pick up food from. Zoe’s is one of them. Zoe’s is open from 8 am to 3 pm daily...but for Wed & Thurs, & also crafts custom-made cakes to order for weddings, birthdays etc., alongside those on its menu like its delicious carrot cake. It will not be taking any more custom-cake orders now but happily, it is still open in 2022 for its enticing selection of its mouthwatering food from its baked goods, its daily sandwiches et al — offerings it calls its redeelde deets, an expression, similar to the expression I use of tasty morsels, referring to foods which hit the sweet spot & charm the taste buds. We have often ordered Zoe’s custom cakes, as a family & I ordered one created to be reminiscent of the first one I made for my son’s first birthday — often repeated after its resounding maiden success. I described it to Zoe & requested desired elements, asking her to craft four tiers with initials on each, signally my four family members. Zoe took my original to new heights on all levels, reimagining my double-level chocolate cake with dulce de leche to a four-tiered chocolate cake, with dulche de leche filling, adding extras such as cream et al, moving it to a new high. She also kindly delivered it to my family who live close to her bakery. Zoe’s has become a must for locals & visitors alike. I came to visit once, traveling by Tofino Bus, the bus transportation company, which services the region. Even the bus driver raved about Zoe’s when I mentioned it. Zoe’s is as mindful, as it is food knowledgeable. It makes sure as little is wasted as possible, using every last bit of its raw foods, as well as generously giving food not sold at the end of the day to those who need food support. Zoe’s is a restaurant member of the west coast culinarily guild — Tofino Ucluelet Culinary Guild (TUCG) — a wonderful farm to table organization initiated by a number of terroir-based restaurants located in this inspiring region. All that can should become members of this wonderful non-profit & there are a number of appropriate levels at which to do so. Most of my favorite eateries are eatery members. These include Zoe’s, Heartwood, Ucluelet Brewing Company, Pluvio, & Abondanza Pizzas. TUCG has a great array of farmers, foragers, fishers, dairy & cheese et al producers. Individual- buying members can get a year’s membership for 40$. My Ukee family have a membership & I have kindly been afforded one by TUCG for the festive December period. It delivers to Ukee, as locals call Ucluelet, weekly on Friday for central pick up for its various buying members. Tasty morsels abound in this culinary Mecca of Ukee. Posted by S FullerMore
