It is a real treat when you come across a restaurant that puts its unique approach to the usual offerings. This is the case with Costa Del Sol Latin Cuisine in Powell River.
Initially wrapping your mind around what “Latin Cuisine" means was an interesting challenge.
However, viewing the menu revealed it was a Mexican menu with contemporary fusion twist.
True to this, was my choice of the Creole Caribe Jambalya Bowl, a lovely fusion of Creole and Mexican flavours. A generous serving in a wonderful mix of flavours in the bowl. My wife had the Taco Del Mar and was very pleased that she could mix the taco choice with seafood and yam tacos, which she absolutely loved.
To top it off, we enjoyed our lovely sunny summer time evening dining on their lovely patio. It was clear from the crowd attending, that Costa Del Sol was a very popular local spot. With good reason. Take their lead and give it a go.

It’s hard for a box of takeout to look good, and my attached photo is no different. But the taste was above average. I had the Enchiladas Verde. My only grumbles were that the enchiladas came with corn tortillas and there was no option to select flour and the online ordering app was difficult.

We stopped in for lunch the other day on a trip to Powell River and Lund. It is a quaint spot, the service was excellent, as was the margarita. We
Wee ordered the Poblano Fritos, a truly delightful deep fried poblano chilli appetizer. Then we shared the fish tacos and the maverick tacos. Both were excellent.
Overall a delightful, friendly spot for great latin food.

I recommend you stay well clear of this place unless you want to hang out just for drinks. The patio is cute, the gals serving are sweet, but something happened to the chef, cause it was like a 4 year old was told to make some enchiladas. I chose the easiest most quick menu item as we were pretty hungry and on our way to go swimming. I got a floppy tortilla filled with that packaged cooked chicken breast from Costco, tasteless. Covered in a jar green sauce, with cheese lumped on top. Just awful! But the real disgrace was the rice, which looked like it had been scraped off the bottom of a burnt rice pot, and only about ÂĽ cup of it, but the beans were hard, dry, overcooked. Again...something scraped off the bottom of a burnt pot. I had no time to stay, complain or deal with the terrible food. Its REALLY not hard to mess up Mexican fare, but this place did, and charged an inflated 20$. AVOID! Go to the Korean place instead!

Just finished dining at Costa del Sol with family tonight. Basing judgement on the semingly high praise and amount of traffic at this place, I was expecting a decent meal, not what I received! Had the Enchiladas de Pollo with verde sauce, they were swimming in sauce that tasted vinegary & premade. This was the only menu dish with a side of beans & rice which were both awful. The 1/2 cup of rice serving, along with the side of canned black beans were both seasoned with a blend of cumin & chili powder...usually Mexican establishments serve properly cooked & pureed pinto beans?! At $17.25 a dish, walked away feeling hungry & unimpressed...no chips or pico de gallo offered either, unless you are willing to pay extra. The laziest Mexican cooking I've come across...avoid this one!

Costa Del Sol has been my go-to favourite restaurant for years in Powell River. This last week I went and was disappointed to see major menu changes.
The tacos were okay, but they weren’t great. The previous recipes for prawn tacos and chicken tacos were perfection and now they’re disappointing.
I hope these changes are temporary, because I’m no longer enthusiastic about eating there. Such a shame.

The food here is edible, I cant say that it isnt, but it is very expensive for a load of chopped tomatoes. The drinks are too, very expensive. I find it double the price of any other venue. The service is snobby and the view is of a busy road. Not my Cup of Tea.

Hi Mary Jo
Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant. As you stated, yes we are Latin Cuisine that is why it is in our name. We do a westcoast twist on mostly Mexican and Central American. As for the cut tomatoes on top of your dish I would love the opportunity to understand what dish it was so we can coach the team. We work very hard to provide fair and generous portions so I am sorry if the Pico de Gallo overpowered the dish or if something else was lacking.
In regards to our prices I hope you can understand a few reason behind them; we make everything in house, and we pay a living wage at minimum. It is important for us to have a team of well trained people who can serve you and have a nice life outside of work. Our team generally has a great attitude and provides a fun relaxed atmosphere so I am not sure what happened with your experience leaving a snobby feeling towards us.
I am really sorry for the disappointment you have expressed. If you would like to give me more specific information that I can use to improve the team then please reach out. I would be happy to compensate you for another visit. My email is sarah@pointgrouphospitality.com should you wish.

We have dinner at Costa del Sol a couple of times a year when visiting PR. We are never disappointed. The nachitos with guacamole, fish tacos and yam tacos are delicious. The watermelon margarita is so refreshing! Can’t wait until next time.

We have had takeaway from here a few times but today we went in and sat in their lovely courtyard. There were six of us and we all were very happy with our meals.
Their drink special was a fresh lemonade fresh strawberry margarita. Some of us had the alcoholic version and some the non alcoholic and it was delicious.
The food was superb. We shared the deep fried poblanos - a little bit unhealthy but really tasty. For mains I had the taco salad (saving room for dessert), three of us had the yam tacos and one had the maverick tacos. We were all happy.
We definitely suggest saving room for the key lime pie. OMG. SOOO good.
And on another note, being a bit of a fussy coffee drinker - their coffee was really REALLY good. So good I had a few cups which might mean I don't sleep tonight.
We would highly recommend.

Wow! Was not expecting a dining experience this interesting in small town BC. Now I know what Ramsay is talking about on TV when he says "the flavours 'pop.'" The menu isn't large, but I think that's because it's not cluttered with the usual same old-same old quasi-authentic burritos and quesadillas. The drinks also seemed to something a little extra. And all this is to say nothing of the extremely friendly staff (thanks Ferin!) and the ambience of the rustic outdoor patio. When you spend ninety minutes over lunch the place must be doing something right!

As good as anything I have had in Mexico. The burrito was superb, everything was very fresh and a good selection of beer & wines too. Good efficient service and we had plenty of time to enjoy our meal before getting our next ferry. It is very small inside and I imagine it would get pretty cozy if you can even get in during peak summer season. But we had no issues and it is very tastefully decorated and quite a good replica in its simplicity of what you would find in a Mexican village

We stayed in Powell river for 3 days over my Birthday. We enjoyed the food so much that we returned the second day for lunch again. Food was excellent. The wet burrito, chicken tacos and fish tacos were all wonderful. The portions were huge and well worth the money. The tequila tasting was wonderful and the tequila Caesar’s were absolutely delicious. Then event brought me over a slice of key lime pie for my birthday. We will return next time we’re in the area! Thanks Costa del Sol!

A hot summer afternoon spent eating slowly with family in the shade of their patio.
Loved the nachos which could have been a meal in themselves. Yam tacos were exceptional. Friendly and helpful service too.

We had a bit of a wait for the ferry today, so we walked up to have a bite to eat. It was such a delicious meal, and the margaritas we awesome. We love Mexican food, and this was fabulous, also our server Ricki was great. We had our 2 children with us as well and they loved their meals. We will for sure be stopping by again the next time we are coming through Powell River.

We had a late lunch here. Food was fine but would have liked a larger choice. However the location is lovely and the service was good. Good drinks menu and I get the feeling that this place might be better in the evening. Would have liked to try that but we were only passing through
