I absolutely love River City Coffee, the staff and the owner. They remember your name, what you like to eat and they always give good service. They are kind and involved in making our community a better place for all. I love the clientele too....I've over heard snippets of conversations that amuse, intrigue and inspire. I am a Powell River resident (senior) and arranged to meet 2 friends visiting Powell River from Penticton. River City Coffee was a logical choice based on location and ease of parking. We ordered 3 coffees and 3 carrot cakes and my friends treated me....(I found out later that the cost came to nearly $40 CAD) but that is not the issue.) Upon taking our first bites of the cake it was obvious the icing was super sweet and the cake seemed dry to me. When my friend went to get a coffee refill she mentioned to the barista on duty (who had been perfectly charming to deal with, by the way) about the sweet icing. A woman also behind the counter came around and approached my friend, demanding to know if she "had bought groceries lately" and pointing out that the cakes were labelled "gluten/dairy free" and asking my friend if she lived here. My friend came back to the table stunned and the mood at the table was instantly transformed. I remained when they left and as I tried to explain how disappointed and embarrassed I was by the whole thing this woman wouldn't give an inch, claiming my friend had been rude and that we had ordered the most expensive things. (Not sure what that had to do with anything.) She offered me a gift card, which I declined, as I have no intention of going back. Perhaps I am old-fashioned but what happened to "the customer is always right"? All this lady had to do was thank my friend for her comment about the icing and perhaps offer her a free coffee refill. My friend was NOT looking for any recompense...she had never asked to speak to the manager in the first place. Powell River should be welcoming tourists after the COVID years, not putting them off with such rude behaviour. My friend wrote a review on Facebook and the reply was equally rude, accompanied by the comment that she was not welcome in River City Coffee any more. Small chance of that!More

I was quickly running into the coffee shop, ordering 2 drinks, my 2 dogs and my disabled daughter. I thought I could tie 1 dog-albeit in the sun at 10 am, for a few minutes and my daughter held the puppy’s leash while in the...shade. This woman comes up to me and says “are those your dogs? I’m the owner, If you don’t take them out of the sun I’ll have to call the SPCA.” Needless to say, I was rattled, she did help me move the umbrella-whatever. I felt I was being racially profiled-she looked at me as if to say, oh this stupid Asian woman does not know how to deal with her dogs. If she had said, “I moved the umbrella to shade your dog, feel free to do so” instead of threatening me immediately…I was just wanting to support a local business before I left town. Honestly, I have been coming to Powell River for 40 years and never, have I been treated like this.More

I often go to River City for their great coffee but yesterday we went for lunch and I’d recommend it. We had a cup (seemed like a bottomless cup) of their daily soup, Paleo tomato was yesterday’s offering - excellent! We then shared a grilled...RCC sandwich, the chicken variation, which was loaded up with tomato, lettuce, cucumber and I think even avocado - generous, freshly made after we placed our order, and really tasty. With a couple of coffees this made a hearty fall lunch for a couple of seniors. As always, service was personable and friendly and the environment welcoming. Recommended.More

Visited here whilst on my holiday to see my Canadian friends. We had a packed day so stopped off here for some breakfast. I had a hot chocolate and a cheese and egg sandwich. Both very tasty and set me up for the day. My...friends also enjoyed there food and beverages. Loved the interior too, very humble yet hobo, and staff friendly and helpful despite them struggling with my British accent 🤣🤣More
9.00 plus tip for this micro panini, that was basically spinach and bread. Spinach was the last ingredient on the menu, it really should be first, and really large the customer knows the Athenian Panini is packed with leaves and stems. Wow. Walked in and our order was taken immediately. While we were ordering, someone else came in and immediately someone stepped up to the counter to take their order. I had a 10 and a 13 year old with me and the gal was patient...as they made their minds up and gave them info to help make their decisions. We didn't have to wait long for our lunches and one of the women working in the back came out and hand delivered our lunches to us! She made a point to be conversational with the kids and friendly overall. When we got in the car, I was thrilled to see the amount of cheese on the kids' pizzas. My grilled cheese sandwich was excellent and though I am a cheese freak, the locally made bread outshone the three cheese combo in the sandwich. I LOVED it! Decor is rustically chic and the coffee was good. The outside looks like a cafe from the 70's, but inside it's all on point.More
Stopped in recently for coffee and a snack (and the use of their free wifi) while visiting briefly in Powell River. Service was quick and friendly. We liked their espresso beans enough we had them grind a bag for our continued enjoyment over the next...couple weeks while travelling.More

Regardless of how delicious the food can be, the lack of tact and customer service the owner has is appalling. Because of this I will never go back. In this case... the owner is always right and don't dare question them.
As soon as you get near the door you can smell it, and standing in line it drives you crazy, but when you sip that first taste of foam it is soooo worth it. Powell River has the best drinking water, but somehow that doesn't...translate to a decent brew for me, or other restaurants I've tried. This place is the exception. Never eaten here, but If the food is half as good as the coffee you'll be thrilled.More
Tasty food and great for an on the go meal. Quiet atmosphere makes this a great place to go to relax with friends.
Celiac's heaven. Allergies are taken seriously here and if you're gluten intolerant or sensitive or a celiac, the staff here take that quite seriously and will create a sterile prep table to eliminate any cross contamination. Also, the coffee is the best in town hands...down 👍👍👍👍More
Finally something a bit trendy in a town that seems to be left in the "old ages". Its a great place to grab brunch and a coffee.
River City is a place to buy fresh-roasted coffee, coffee and tea drinks and delicious snacks. I love their feta and spinach scones!
