This busy little bakery is close to the water in Cowichan Bay. They have a nice selection of artisan quality Breads, Pastries, Pretzels, Cinnamon Buns, and other treats. I had a Cheesy Pretzel and a German Pretzel. The Cheesy Pretzel was tasty and they didn’t...cheap out on the Cheese. The German Pretzel was pretty basic, but I did enjoy it as well. Both were very fresh, as were the rest of the selection of baked goods they had featured this day.More

I don't buy baked products from True Grain. But I do buy all my flour from them. Stone ground, organic and mostly sourced from Vancouver Island farms. I do a lot of baking, so have bought over 150 kgs of sifted and whole grain flours...in the past 9 months. They use none of the additives that other flour producers use, to stabilize and make more nutritious their products, because they grind at high speed (using steel) and the heat destroys the naturally occurring nutrients. Moreover, True Grain's flour are incredibly tasty, particularly the flour made from Red Fife. It's more expensive, obviously, but the wonderful flavour more than justifies the cost. (Trip Advisor requires its reviewers to choose one date of travel, which, in the case of this review, is silly. I visit True Grain every two to three months.)More

Whatever baked goods we have ordered here have always been excellent. A Cowichan Bay favourite. Much loved by the locals.

Quality is ok but every single item in True Grain is over priced. Ordered two cinnamon buns and it was $10. Good to OK. Certainly not excellent. but not worth the price Find another bakery for likely half the price and all the same quality...or more.More

My wife and I love different breads and the True Grain has it all. Good variety and fresh as well. A good place to frequent when in the neighbourhood.

One of the most outstanding bakeries I've had the good fortune to visit. Purchased bread, cookies, pastry of all kinds, it's always incredible.

I drove down from Duncan especially to try the baked goods at True Grain, and I certainly was not disappointed. I was delighted to buy cookies for impending guests, and enjoy an Early Riser with a latte. The staff...I think it was the owner who...served me, were friendly and lovely, especially when I was $3 short because they only accept cash or Canadian Credit Cards. I shall return with my guests and lay me $3 debt! Not only do they sell baked goods, but they also have many organic flours, pasta, jams and much more. This is a little gem.More

I usually bake my own sourdough but haven't had time lately. This is my go-to place when I need a loaf. I was here to buy a multigrain loaf, but ended up getting a delicious baguette, some spiced shortbread, and a piece of focaccia with...pesto and I believe zucchini. I forgot to look too closely, as I was driving and it was so delicious that I gobbled it down and wished that I had more. I shared the cookies with some friends and we were all raving about them. Delicious amount of spice. They really know their stuff here.More

This mill and bakery use Organic only ingredients. Their products are truly wonderful. We only use their flour and a good portion of it is grown in the Cowichan Valley, here on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia. Yes, they’re a busy bakery, often times...one has to queue to be served. However, it’s well worth the wait to be served. They are not a large bakery either. The fragrances of fresh baking when one enters the shop is tantalizing. Be warned, don’t enter if you’re hungry!!More

We live in Victoria and stop into this bakery whenever passing through Cow Bay. It has a lovely, quaint, boardwalk-on-the-seaside location and a laid-back, western decor with a few little tables for noshing. But the standout reason for going is the quality and variety of...their baked products. They feature multiple types of breads and buns that are freshly-made, healthy, and mostly organic, and the pastries and cookies are equally yummy and packed with nutritious and quality ingredients. Service is fast and friendly. Good for singles, couples and families alike. It has the buzz of a Cobs Bread outlet, but much greater selection and focus on wholesome organic ingredients. One small limitation (and it's likely only in my pastry-obsessed mind): there are no specialty cakes or pastries on offer here, but to be fair, that isn't their focus. It's simple, fresh, wholesome, quality, everyday breads, buns, cookies, and treats--and it's awesome-good. :-)More
