This place is worth searching out if you are exploring the Southern Gulf Islands, especially Saturna Island. A small space but a wonderful experience! Great service, scallops to savour forever in a broth that is superb and a sashimi tuna to start made for a very memorable dining experience. If you are on Saturna this year don't miss this place.

This is a very small space with limited seating and quite casual. It operates during the day as a cafe and in the evenings (if they're open), they serve a quality full service meal.
Consider this island only has 300+ people and 2 places to eat out. To be able to score a delicious meal prepared my a trained chef, is quite exceptional. Residents are fortunate to have access to this as I've visited communities triple the size that don't offer a service like this.
The menu is quite limited and I think you have a choice of 3 entree's. The night we were there you could choose from a fish dish, a German schnitzel meal, and a pasta dish. They all looked excellent, and mine was cooked perfectly.

Located as part of the General Store, the Cafe is a great spot for for brunches and lunches. You'll be delighted with the ever-changing menu. You will be pleased with every meal.
And then there's Saturday ! Chef Hubertus Surm's Saturday evening meals are eagerly anticipated. It's wise to reserve ahead, and when you do that meal will be well remembered. You'll do it again the next Saturday.

The cafe has a limited menu. When we arrived near the end of their "brunch" period, they were sold out of all the egg dishes and just had spanokapita. So we went to the general store to which the cafe is attached. It has all the essentials and more. Prices are a bit tricky – some posted, some not. The little café serves what looked like reasonable food for breakfast but sold out of 3 of the 4 brunch items by 1 pm and did not seem to switch to a lunch menu. They had exactly one home made baked good (date squares) but other regionally produced baked goods were available. They had some local fruit that was tasty and fresh. It was a struggle to put together the basics for a lunch as we kind of envisioned a deli type affair.

My wife and I just spent a weekend on Saturna Island and had the good fortune to have dinner at the Saturna Cafe. The restaurant is located in the same building as the general store, not far from the ferry dock.
The room itself is very attractive, with lots of space between the tables and lots of art on the walls. The staff consists of the chef and one server; and the menu, not surprisingly is restricted to 3 appetizers, two mains and two desserts. In addition, they provided very tasty sourdough bread and pickled kelp, which turned out to be delicious.
We shared a first course of spot prawns. I had barbecued ribs with fresh corn bread and cole slaw. My wife had the salmon with strawberry salsa and risotto. Both were excellent. We shared the chocolate dessert which was tasty as well.
The service was friendly and efficient and the chef came out to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. The bill came to $60.00 before tip and without drinks, for one of the best restaurant meals we've had in a long time.
Highly recommended.

Had a very nice Saturday night dinner here. I had an excellently prepared free range chicken roasted with herbs. The other dinner was a delicious scallops bowl with wine sauce. Good wines available and a dessert special each night. Reasonably priced and a pleasant little treat way out on the Island.

The Chef, Hubertus, is a wonderful and reliable cook. He is only open on Friday and Saturday nights so book early. Fridays are pizza nights (although there is always another entree available) and Saturday always has fish and something else on the menu. Serice is always good and friendly.
The cafe is the other half of a grocery store so don't expect a romantic setting. There is often work from local artists on the walls, often quite lovely, sometimes "interesting".

The Saturna Cafe is open for dinner only 2 nights/week and not much more than that for breakfast and lunch (although they make the excellent sandwiches available every day in the Saturna General Store).
We were there for dinner and an exquisite dinner it was. I had moussaka made with local lamb and the blueberry pie available for dessert was the best we've ever had. There is very little choice, but the food couldn't be better. If we ever return to Saturna, we will make sure our days there coincide with the Café being open.

This cafe rivals some of the best for food and ambiance. We came for both a photography opening and a prix fixe dinner that had 7 glorious courses. Most evenings there is a menu with different choices, including vegetarian options. The meal opened with delicious bread and olive oil, then spears with small mozzarella balls, cucumber and cherry tomatoes with a very tasty sauce perfectly applied. The next course had a superb salmon that the cook had cured himself- light, perfectly cooked and with a delicate flavor. Next came really tasty vegetarian enchiladas with just the right mix of sauce, vegetables and the a tiny bit of cheese. The salad that followed were local light, perfectly tossed lettuce, all held together by a long cucumber wrapped around to make a little bowl. The meal ended with delicious strawberry shortcake with fresh and very flavorful local strawberries, plus whipped cream. There was excellent wine, good coffee and superb service. Be sure to check this out. If you can't make dinner, there is breakfast and lunch available too, also well done.

We had a family night out (3 generations including a 2 yr old). We had pizza, wine, dessert (pie) and the food quality and service was fantastic.
The restaurant was full, yet the food, chef and one server were exceptional.
I felt, especially considering the remote location, the price was a bargain.

We often eat here for dinner. It's a treat. This little café offers a simple menu for dinner, usually a choice of two or three appetizers, two or three main courses, and one or two desserts. The menu also suggests BC wines, including some from Saturna and Salt Spring's Garry Oaks winery. A nice touch.
Chef Hubertus Surm uses fresh ingredients, either locally produced or sourced from neighbouring islands (including Saturna-raised beef and lamb, wild BC salmon and halibut, and Salt Spring mussels), and turns these into delicious offerings.
Service can be slow, depending on the number of diners, but is always very friendly. It's a great place to relax and refuel after exploring Saturna island's parks and shorelines.
If you can get a table on a Saturday night in the summertime, you will be lucky. My advice would be to call ahead and reserve. Also, best to call ahead to check on the Café's hours, they vary.
