Sad times. The Star & Dove used to be my go-to pub in the area for friendly, chilled out drinks (and great bar snacks) at any time of year. Sure, the drinks weren't cheap, but they were always good, especially the wine – an extensive, well-chosen list that the friendly bar staff were knowledgeable about. Three words: WHAT. HAS. HAPPENED?... More

Having sampled ale and bar snacks over the last year or so we didn't need much persuading to try the Christmas menu. Starting with kedgeree and beetroot both of which were delicious really full of flavour and textures perfect start, followed by the Turkey which was moist and fluffy inside roasted potatoes and delicious gravy. Then the deserts to share... More

Xmas works lunch the starter I had was pickled beetroot not much beetroot and tasteless . The turkey main was pretty food with possibly the best roast potatoes I've had away from home fluffy in the middle crisp on the outside and the sharing desert was OK

We were here for our Christmas meal on tuesday and it was not busy inside. Despite this, we had to wait a long time to order drinks and had to seek out staff members each time we wanted something new. After the food was brought out we were not asked if we wanted any sauces or anything and were just... More

Went for a Sunday Roast for the second time in a year, and found it once again absolutely delicious. Great value for money, and what I believe is the best Sunday Roast I ever had. Booking on a weekend is mandatory as there are not many tables.

Been coming here for 6 years and have to say it's on the decline quite rapidly. Management change takes away the last possible reason to overcharge so criminally for the drinks. We miss the old managers and their charm and knowledge of food and drink. Wine list now completely overpriced and wines actually not nice at all (this bears all... More

I went in this place years ago and it was all modernist blond wood and aspirational lagers, so it's slightly amusing to see its current retroish, fashionably dog-eared incarnation. However, comedy makeovers aside, this big old place has reinvented itself as a pretty nice dining pub. The menu is an imaginative take on pub / British traditional food and done... More

Just moved to Totterdown and I feel so lucky to have this is my local. Lovely old independent pub with a keen eye for quality. The roast beef is some of the best I've ever had and the Yorkies were awesome - crisp and fluffy in equal measure. Interesting beers and wines available. On another visit I tried one of... More

We visited yesterday for a roast, 8 of us in total. I had heard such wonderful things and was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately it just didn't quite do as well as I had hope. Firstly the positives: The free amuse bouche of white onion and potato soup was incredible. The beef and pork were beautifully cooked and the... More

My girlfriend and I had my mother staying over for the weekend, we spent the day sight seeing and like many others on a Sunday found ourselves in search for that perfect Sunday roast. We walked passed The Star and Dove just after 12, we headed in to see if we could get a seat, although the place at this... More

Description
On the corner of St Lukes Road sits The Star and Dove – a smart, welcoming pub and a favourite among Bristol’s young and trendy locals. Downstairs, there are two separate bar areas where you can lounge around on comfy sofas; while upstairs in the restaurant, the parquet floors, royal blue walls and huge windows create a bright and airy space. There are separate menus too, with the bar menu offering classic pub grub and the restaurant menu serving up top-class European cuisine. As if that wasn’t enough, the kitchen produces a seasonal tasting menu on the first Thursday of every month. There’s a great outside space, a concise wine list and a good selection of draught lagers – what more could you ask for?
