The Coach and Horses is a hidden gem in Bristol. A genuinely warm and welcoming local city pub that serves excellent food in unpretentious comfortable surroundings close to Clifton Downs. Sunday lunch is outstanding and just the thing after an invigorating walk. Prices are very reasonable for such very good cuisine. Warmly recommended.

This is a "pub" pub with good ale and wine, plus home-cooked food. Tucked away off Blackboy Hill but worth seeking out

We were staying close by and popped in on a Saturday night for the steak, chips and a bottle of wine for two for £30, and it was excellent. The service was first class, food delicious, very friendly atmosphere and not too busy. We will be going back next time we are in Clifton.

We regularly eat here for Sunday lunch so decided to try the mid week menu....it was just as lovely! We had a chicken and gammon pie and a home made gourmet burger with French fries. The food in this pub is fantastic. I cannot recommend it enough!

Great pub, what you imagine an old English pub would be like, but this one has the added advantage of a very nice front garden. 4 of us had dinner there on Thursday evening. Very friendly and attentive staff, very nice food - large and hearty, great atmosphere, really good selection on wines and they also allow dogs. Will be... More

I would highly recommend this pub! After a late morning walk on the downs we stopped off for a drink in the Coach and Horses and decided to stay for a roast dinner. One of the best roast dinners I have ever had! There was plenty of food and it was really tasty - a proper home cooked meal! Will... More

We'd like to thank Steve (landlord) and his staff for a wonderful evening when we recently held a birthday party at this pub. They made sure that we had a really special time and a celebration to remember. Steve was flexible and accommodating when it came to talking through the arrangements for the evening, eg hot buffet menu options, how... More

Found this pub by chance when in Clifton on Friday evening and liking the look of it we decided to give it a try. It was very pleasant as were the staff. There was a mix of age groups, some mature couples, a group of young people,a few men chatting at the bar and one or two people on their... More

Looking forward to lunch at the Coach and Horses today having booked. Sadly they rang an hour before we were due to arrive to say that they had to cancel. Initially they said that they would run out of food by the time of the booking and then amended this to say that they were fully booked. Poor.

Paid for parking outside, no sign or indication that the food wasn't available. When in to be told no food served because of there being no chief available. All in all quite a bit of petrol and hassle getting there as well as paying parking
