We ate here recently, it was busy. The service was okay, a bit slow. The curries we had were fine but not really full of flavour and they didn't taste very fresh. The one just had dry fresh chillies sprinkles on top but that didn't...More

This was the 2nd time I have been here. The 1st time I felt that the quality of food was very good, but the staff were slightly off-putting as they seemed to be on our case all the time. This 1st visit was on a...More

Worth booking in advance, excellent & delicious food and large portion sizes. A wide variety of foods to choose from on the menu.

Generous and good starters but the main course wasn't great. The rice was clumpy and the curry a little bland although well cooked. The staff, though, were very unwelcoming. It felt like we were putting them out somehow - a smile would have changed the...More

I stumbled upon the Brunel Raj by chance, and was glad I went in. The restaurant was quiet at around 6.30pm, which suited me, and I had a table by a window. The food was good, plentiful and excellently priced - poppadums and very good...More

On my last consecutive visits to the Ray I have been profoundly ill afterwards. And no, this is not because I have over indulged.Certainly the curries at the Raj are good. But they are not so good I want to enjoy them twice. Grim.

Would definitely recommend eating here, the service is great and the food is fantastic. We had a curry each, shared a rice more than enough for two people, one naan, onion baji and kingfisher draft beer. Great value and very, very delicious!

Really love this curry house. Always a very good and consistent standard of food. Their vegetable dhansak is the best ever and their veg side dishes are also extremely tasty. Highly recommended.

I visited the Brunel Raj last Thursday with my friend as we were a good walk away from our usual curry house and we were starving. We found the staff quite cranky when we arrived and did not feel welcomed at all, it was as...More

In 1997, the four brothers opened the Brunel Raj, authentic Indian cuisine. The name of the restaurant compliments its location in Clifton Village. ‘Brunel’ came from the famous engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel who was best known for the creation of the Great Western Railway, the famous SS Great Britain and the world famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. The second name Raj, comes from the Sanskrit work rajan, which means ruler or king. The name ‘Brunel Raj’ thus translates to ‘King Brunel’, paying tribute to Bristol’s most well known merchant, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.Since opening its doors over 10 years ago, Brunel Raj has received great publicity and praise from local press, along with a string of catering awards; including being listed in the Top UK Restaurants by Hardens in 2001 and 2003.The main restaurant seats 48 and is available for small parties subject to booking and availability. We also cater for business and private parties as well as conferences and weddings.
