Great restaurant, the pre-theater menu is limited but cheap - the steaks are cooked well and the staff are efficient. The restaurant upstairs is small but then they took us downstairs into the basement which was nice and atmospheric.

The Cambridge Chop House in King's Parade proved the ideal venue for a relaxed, midweek, birthday lunch. We chose from the set menu: starters, butler steak, shared dessert and a carafe of wine came to £51 for two. The steak was delicious and we were well advised on our choice of wine. We received a friendly welcome and our table... More

An early dinner for three, 5:45, since we were going to a concert. It is in the centre of Cambridge and so fairly busy even so early. So we were seated in the basement, a bit quashed. I had two starters, salmon mouse and rabbit pate with hazel nuts. Both OK and quite substantial but short on bread. The other... More

This large restaurant with lots of tucked away corners, many below street level, is right opposite Kings College and on a corner near 'the clock', so ideal for popping in for food. We had booked a group in for Sunday Lunch, and many chose the roast, which was good with lots of little piles of veg. However those who had... More

This place was recommended by a friend and it's really worth a visit. Steaks were cooked to perfection. A little bit pricy but it's worth it. The staff who served us was nice and friendly but the staff who greeted us and showed us the seats was definitely not. I've noticed other staff weren't friendly with other customers either.

I took a client there for an evening meal. Most of the seats are in a series of underground rooms, really quite striking. Good service, good choice of good, basic food that uses good ingredients that they know how to cook. Not cheap but if you are wanting something above average I'd recommend it.

This time I had, from their lunch menu, smoked salmon mousse then sausages and mash. The craft beer, Umbel, brown-ish, was absolutely excellent. Good value, pricewise, by Cambridge standards. Very pleasant atmosphere. If you are studying mediaeval Urdu (or otherwise have a Camcard), you also get a discount

The Cambridge Chop House (and St Johns Chop House for that matter) was recommended to me by the smart girl I work with who actually went to Cambridge university, and I can see why she liked it. There's a ground floor and a lower level cellar floor and both have different characters. The cellar floor was stylish and cosy and... More

Located in the heart of Cambridge, opposite Kings College Chapel, The Cambridge Chop House is a traditional British bar and restaurant that has been popular with locals and visitors from further afield since it opened in 2007. Split over two levels, the ground floor boasts views of Kings College Chapel while the basement is an intimate, atmospheric cellar split into four rooms. The menu offers British classics made from locally sourced ingredients and the two course set lunch and pre-theatre menu is excellent value for money. Popular dishes include Mutton Barnsley chops; whole sea bass with wholegrain mustard sauce; and daily changing sausages made on site. The hearty portions are best served with local ales straight from the cask or wine from an extensive list.
