We were really looking forward to trying the food here, but after we'd got settled in and gone to the bar to order they told us no under 18s after 6pm. It would have been helpful if this were mentioned at all on their website, which we had checked before making the trip. Or even if they had collared us... More

You are totally right. Sorry about the website. I'll attend to it . We are a pub for grown ups and we are extremely inflexible when it comes to children, in a city centre pub at night. More

My wife and I enjoyed our first visit here, although that was in part due to the fabulous friends we were with. It makes a big difference. We liked the pubby atmosphere and the beers were good. The tables and seating are best suited for groups rather than couples. The atmosphere is friendly. We all enjoyed our food although I'd... More

We had a dinner booked for 14 people last night. I used to love this place, great story, exciting decor, cosy atmosphere and tasty food. First time I came here about 2 years ago, I was impressed finding a unique venue like this in Exeter. I have visited the place since then on several occasions and enjoyed the food most... More

I'm not vegetarian but I like to try meals I wouldn't cook at home and the smoked butternut squash with potato gratin was gorgeous. My friend had fish which he also thought was lovely. It was busy but it was Saturday early evening and it is close to the Corn Exchange. Quite cramped but room for at least three well... More

Popped in for a pint on a cold night to find a roaring fire, great beer and friendly chat at the bar. Looking at the menu and the food leaving the kitchen me and my drinking buddy decided to kick our planned trip up town for eats into touch. He had the smokehouse platter which was the finest plate of... More

A warm welcome is always a good start. The lady behind the bar was excellent and clearly very knowledgeable about the beer and distillery (i hope this does not sound patronising). If only more people working behind a bar knew as much. The beer is excellent, its not overpriced and you do after all get what you pay for. I... More

This visually attractive venue had little free seating, as was focused on large kitchen sized bare wooden tables for eating, not even leaving much space to stand at/ near the bar. While the real ale was nice, paying London [wine bar?] process was not. Perhaps Exeter academics earn more than those in the London bubble - who knows... So after... More

I'm sorry that you couldn't find a seat , it's a very small pub . It is true that out of the 14 tables we own that 3 of them will seat bigger parties of 6 . As for the rest of them they seat the usual 2 or 4 people , as I believe is laid down in standard... More

Nice atmosphere, great selection of whiskey and good beer choices. We've eaten here in the past and been happy with the food too.

Stopped in here while on a business trip to Exeter for a proper pint and some Ribs. Friendly staff, excellent selection of Real Ales. Lot's of locals. Friendly dogs. A real fire to warm you up and dry you off from the rain.
