This lovely tea room may be ‘tucked away’ in a quiet road in Bournemouth town centre, but when I managed to find it I enjoyed a superb afternoon tea! The staff welcomed me warmly with smiles and friendly ‘Hellos’ when I walked in to Friedas and they made me feel very welcome throughout my visit. I wanted a break from the office and so went by myself for something to eat and drink. I ordered a pot of tea and a few sandwiches and cakes. The food was presented on a little plate stand and the tea was served in a pot and I drank it out of cute little china cups and saucers. The sandwiches were superb. As good as any I have eaten for a long, long time. They were so fresh and had clearly been prepared with just baked bread. The egg sandwich and the ham and coleslaw sandwich were soft and delicious and bursting with flavour. The little cakes that I ate were also delicious, moist and chocolatey with lovely sweet fillings. Once you have found this tea room you will return, drawn by the delicious fresh sandwiches and cakes. It is a perfect place for a meet up with friends or family or like me to escape from the office!

I noticed the bicycle pointing to Frieda’s tearoom on the high street. I’m so glad I did. The tearoom is a cosy, modest sized space with very personable staff that made me and my husband feel very special. The eggs benedict was cooked to perfection (I wasn’t sure if I would like the avocado sauce, but it was so delicious,), and Derek is still raving about his heavenly chorizo brunch. The food and coffees came quickly, and the manager (with the coloured hair) went above and beyond for us. You’ve found 2 loyal new customers, Frieda!

My first visit here today, for a cooked breakfast. It was very good - decent quality ingredients, fast service, so I would definitely recommend this tea shop. Staff were really nice, friendly & obviously wanted to please customers. Quaint interior. As I told the server, my only disappointment was there was only 1 rasher of bacon with my breakfast. It was thick & very tasty bacon, but come on! 1 rasher only! It should be at least 2, preferably 3. Then it would have been perfect. Maybe 2 slices of toast too, instead of just 1. Tea was extra, so in total cost £11.50, which was a little steep I thought. But overall, I was happy. Could have been 5-star with the small improvements I've suggested above, so hopefully the shop will see this as constructive feedback, not criticism.

My friend ordered afternoon tea for my birthday. I asked for no margarine in the sandwiches because I am allergic to it and granary bread. The tea arrived. A quarter white bread egg mayonnaise sandwich with so much cheap factory mayonnaise in it that's all you could taste along with a quarter cream cheese and cucumber sandwich, again tasteless, and do you want cream cheese when there's a scone with jam and cream? I said I didn't want mayonnaise so asked for a ham and cheese sandwich. It took ages to arrive and then was made with that cheap tasteless cheddar. I tried one of the little sponge cakes but it was so full of sugar to be inedible. All horrible. Then the waitress came out and said she was sorry but the sandwiches had been made with margarine, the chef had made the other customers with butter instead. I started to feel sick and my face was burning. I needed to go home quick as I was going to be sick so my friend went up to pay and the cook from the kitchen came out and charged her £28 for afternoon tea for two. Absolutely discusting. I can forgive a mistake but to then charge this amount was an absolute insult. I went straight home and to bed. I felt ill for the rest of the day and couldn't go to work that evening so lost earnings, I'm so angry at this place.

We had 2 americanos and one scone portion with jam . A cream tea is £6 but I don’t like clotted cream so didn’t order that. However when we came to pay he said is was £10 so £5 for the scone. I asked how that could possibly be as using the cream tea pricing it should have been max of £3.50 for the scone & was told they didn’t sell scones on their own!! This is a cafe .. he told me I should have ordered the cream tea. I explained I didn’t want to waste the cream but he was adamant. Surely a cafe should sell a scone without cream and he seemed oblivious to the fact I was trying to save him money and waste! Delicious scone but won’t be back as a pretty dodgy bit of town and crazy pricing strategy. He did only charge £8 in the end but still thought his logic made perfect sense 🤦‍♀️

We visited on Sunday afternoon for tea having booked as advised it might be very busy, it wasn’t there were only 2 other tables occupied. The staff were very friendly and prompt with our tea and coffee and the food came a little while after. The website description and photos indicate a selection cake & pastries however we received a very small selection of sandwiches which didn’t even amount to a whole sandwich each. The salmon and cream cheese was delicious but unfortunately mine had a hair in it, I didn’t mention anything to them as nobody does that on purpose it’s an accident and I’m sure they’d have been mortified but I’d nearly eaten all the quarter by the time I realised, obviously I left the corner it was in . The small but perfect scones were warm and delicious we had to ask for additional cream as there was only enough for one serving, they happily provided it. The others were 3 small squares each of just sponge cakes! The chocolate orange was ok but nothing special, the red velvet had a raw base in my piece so uneaten but the plain Victoria sponge was good flavour - however £17.50 for what was actually a small pedestrian selection of sponge cake and scone with a tea was neither a lovely experience or good value - sorry . I think that perhaps because they weren’t busy the selection wasn’t worth producing maybe? It was really average the chap serving was lovely and happy to help us but sorry won’t be going again. There are much better options close by at just a couple of £’s more that are far superior.

Hi Jamester, we are sorry you did not have the best experience, all of our cakes and sandwiches are made fresh, we are mortified that you found a hair in it and wish you would havee let a staff member know so that we could have resolved the problem, had you told us that you werent satisfied we could have rectified the situation, we aways advise booking on weekends as we can be very busy and the only way to avoid disappointment is to book as with many small independant venues. as for our sandwiches and cakes we are reknowned for our afternoon teas and have many return customers that rave about the afternoon teas so its a shame that you didnt enjoy them, we can assure you that all of our cakes are cooked perfectly so none would have been served been served raw,. if you would like any further comunication regarding any of the issues stated please contact us at info@friedastearoom.co.uk Kind Reagrds, The Frieda's Team

Using the tearoom Trip advisor rating to sell the tea bus tour is extremely misleading...The Bus tour is extremely poor value and the food provision is minimal and of very average quality. Book a restaurant in the evening as you will be hungry. No coffee offered, just tea...not even one round of sandwiches (ie the equivalent of 1.5 slices of bread) The driver was not wearing a mask or socially distancing. My advice would be to avoid and don't be mislead by the advertising using their cafe certificate of excellence...

Went here 3 times on my last week in Bournemouth last year. So keen to get back there this year, but really a bit disappointing. Cooked Breakfast was good again but service wasn’t as good, my cappuccino wasn’t a cappuccino and my partners porridge was half the size it was last year. Seemed others in there at the same time had the same experience.

We went for Mothering Sunday, the two of us and our grown-up daughters. The quality of the tea was excellent, very fresh and tasty. The tea-rooms themselves are lovely too, although in a part of Bournemouth that was tatty, with rubbish bins and roadworks seemingly everywhere. What staggered us were the prices. £90 for tea for 4. The service was added on with no way of removing it, and for the vegan tea we paid a fair bit extra, expecting a replacement clotted cream, but got margerine instead. We also had to pay extra for a small orange juice for the person who didnt drink coffee or tea. For these sort of prices we would have expected smoked salmon with the cream cheese sandwich instead of cucumber for example and considerably more food - the amount of clotted cream was very meagre and nowehere near enough, although more was provided when asked for. So; no complaints about the quality, just the wait for our food (30 minutes in a tea shop with only 1 other table occupied when we arrived) and the overall generosity; with a few little touches the impression would have been greatly enhanced.

This place was lovely, beautifully decorated and the staff very welcoming. They were very accommodating to the toddler with us too making him his own cheese sandwich. We had the cream tea, which was lovely. Sandwiches were freshly made and there were a selection of cakes. The only downside however was not being able to choose a coffee instead of a tea as the menu says tea OR coffees. I did have a coffee, but had to pay on top of the price of the cream tea which is a shame. Overall however the experience was lovely, and we would go back again.

We visited the tea rooms for an afternoon tea we had booked in advance. The tea room came highly recommend and after looking at reviews we decided to book there. On arrival there wasn't enough set up for us all as they had said they had only booked for 3 which wasn't a problem as it was easily rectified. We then had a pot of tea amongst us, unsure if the tea bag had split or if tea leafs were used either way the tea then poured out with black lumps in ( if it was tea leaves we didn't get given a strainer). When booking I stated that one had to be made suitable for a vegetarian/ vegan this was not catered for and was given a standard afternoon tea with sandwiches containing meat touching the ones that did not ( however contained cheese and egg so wasn't suitable anyways). The chef and the waitress was arguing/ had a disagreement in the kitchen which could he heard by us sat at the table. The scones was however warm and lovely and honestly was the best part about the whole trip. The whole package would have been nice for someone who could eat dairy and meat and was fresh and well presented. Personally I wouldn't recommend and wouldn't go back again.

We visited for afternoon tea having found it in a top 10 list of afternoon teas in Bournemouth but left disappointed compared to previous, similarly priced, afternoon teas we have had in the area. The good... the small tea room is clean, very quaint, the scones were warm and lovely, the service was efficient and friendly, and we had a large pot of nice proper tea ( 3 cups each ). The not so good...the food was not as per the photos or description. We had 3 small finger sandwiches ( but limited choice if you don't like egg/cream cheese), 1 (nice) scone, and 3 very similar squares of sponge cake each plus tea for £41.80. The description says "a variety of cakes and pastries", and the photo shows more variety , more sandwiches, and 2 scones per person. The back street setting is rundown (not their fault but look elsewhere if you're looking for a more romantic setting) and the tea room smelt of damp which was quite off putting.

Really lovely little tea rooms, excellent service from the very friendly staff. Afternoon tea was top quality and made a really special addition to an 80th birthday afternoon family gathering. Highly recommended and I would absolutely visit again. Looking forward to the tea bus starting up again.

Having read a number of reviews I was looking forward to visiting this location with my friends. I must say we were rather disappointed. The quality of the food was average considering the prices. Small dry finger sandwich’s. Dispite being the only customers in the building customer service was lacking, we felt that we were a hindrance. The web site talks about amazing cakes but mine was dry and appeared stale. Was expecting a quaint old fashioned tea room, that you see in the villages of the new forest. It appears this is how they are marketing themselves with prices to match but it’s located in a row of delicate boarded up buildings, of a road full of baggers. We will not be returning
