We went last year and had a lovely evening - food was nice so decided to go back. We were warned we may have to wait for our meals and to be fair we didn’t wait too long but the quality had seriously gone downhill....Sausage and Mash looked like 3 cheap sausages with the tiniest bit of mash scraped from the saucepan - can’t speak for the others but nowhere near as nice as last time we visited - must have been a completely different chef - surprised they were happy to serve this. My husband had burger and chips - it looked very basic - plate looked like it needed more items on it. Meal looked like the quality where you pay £2.99 and you know what you are getting.More

On 04.09.21 Table booked for 8pm for two people, pre booked the day before. Upon arrival we were ignored for ten minutes while four members of staff stood chatting at the bar with the bar server. Eventually we were greeted with a questioning look and...although our name was clearly written on their reservation list, they seemed perplexed that we were there. The young waitress said “hold on” and disappeared and after a few moments showed us to a dark, dingy seating area. The lighting was hardly on and there were visible bulbs missing or broken - it was certainly not a nice environment. We would not have even been able to read the menu without a torch! Another young waitress arrived and without an apology stated that the chef wanted to go home! Apparently they had informed the Chef that we had already been there and eaten and so he had packed up the kitchen! How this was possible when we arrived at the correct time for our booking and indeed our name on the reservation list was not marked that we had arrived until I watched the waitress mark us in attendance upon our arrival. We were Then told Chef would cook us a main meal only and only if we ordered quickly. We were made to feel most unwelcome. There was not apology, no manager, no offer of a drink or any effort to make us comfortable. They appeared to only be happy once we stated we would rather leave. It was the last night of our holiday and it was spoilt by the lack of professionalism by the staff at this establishment. Booking was in the name of Mr R TorzMore

Shocking food. Approximately 6 to 8 mushrooms in a congealed white sauce (tasted like a packet mix)! Not sure where the garlic or Stilton was. Sour dough served cold, no butter, tasted old. Beef Burger - absolutely dry as was the bun it came in,...which crumbled - definitely not fresh and burger seemed it had been cooked a long while in advance then warmed up. Young girl assured us they were cooked fresh - could not believe this. Lasagne - not sure what to say or how to describe. Burnt, tasteless, had to search for the mince. Described as done in red wine and tomato sauce, no taste of these ingredients. What I assume should have been bechamel was tasteless. I can only imagine it is bought in and not homemade. Simply inedible. Token salad. Walked out hungry and exceptionally disappointed. Should have taken more notice of the terrible reviews. Lovely pub inside and out, but it really needs to get a good chef and do the pub, and it’s decor the justice it should deserves. Lasagne taken off bill, paid for burger which I did regret as over half was left. Would NOT recommend and will not return.More

We were advised that the kitchen chef was off and so others were standing in. However that said. I was disappointed to order the steak pie, buttery mash and peas , to be served with a small meal, but, not only that- the buttery mash...was instant powdered potato …:: the consistency of wallpaper paste. I appreciate that places are short staffed but boiling and mashing potatoes in my view, isn’t too difficult. Our other food was good. The new waitress was excellent, helpful and friendlyMore

Firstly I am shocked to read negative reviews. This place is lovely, clean and the staff are amazing. When we arrived we were told that the restaurant would close early due to staff sickness….absolutely fine!! That is the covid world we live in now and...I’m utterly gobsmacked that people have held this against the place. The food was stunning, the room was clean and tidy and smelt beautiful and the staff couldn’t have done enough for us. Maybe those who think that the staff were rude should be nicer to people and they may get a different outcome!!More

We had booked online but when we got there they couldn't find our booking but after a wait they begrudgingly gave us a table. They were, I think, stressed as they were having to close early due to staff shortage so we would have to...order quickly and leave. We felt unwelcome, as we sat, further people arrived they were being turned away but in a pretty unfriendly manner and hearing that 'all the staff were sick including the chef' didn't bode well to eating there. The menus was sticky and crumpled and had biro scribbles all over it indicating that these items were not available. My 8 year old then said I don't feel good about eating here.... so we left. I can highly recommend The Weld Arms where we ended up, it was superb.More

This review is for the food / restaurant (not the accommodation which was a much better experience) Summer holidays busy everywhere and we booked a table as we were staying in the hotel. When we booked they didn’t tell us they were running a reduced...menu. We found this out when we were taken to our table. I understand due to Covid, staffing etc but they should have the courtesy to tell customers before we turn up. The restaurant/ pub was pretty empty and the staff were stood around chatting and complaining about a customers child who needed help with the pool table (which was in another part of the bar). And so we stood there awkwardly before they even acknowledged us. So not a good start so far. Ordered off the reduced menu and the food was terrible. I ordered a veggie curry dish which was tasteless watery and made using frozen veg. The lasagne was no better. This is the worst meal I’ve ever had in a pub. I wouldn’t even feed it to my dig. Obviously cutting corners in quality and charging a premium. Do not go here, do not waste your money it’s terrible which explains why the bar and restaurant were empty.More

Beds were comfortable, with clean crisp bedding. Our room had everything we needed and was large and spacious. The staff were incredibly polite, friendly and accommodating despite being thoroughly understaffed. We ate the the pub the night we stayed and the food was also great....A good choice and everything we ordered was hot and tasty, what more could you ask for.More

Booked a table weeks ago for the bank holiday weekend. We arrived, checked in and were shown to our table, given a grubby menu with loads of choices scribbled out in pen and left. No offer of drinks and we waited and waited and waited....Eventually we downloaded the app to order online. No big surprise… the app didn’t work. Eventually went to the bar to order. The food was over cooked and barely average. When our plates were finally collected we weren’t offered desserts we had to ask for the menu. And we waited and waited and waited and left. Definitely try and find another pub close by. Avoid this one.More
