My husband and I visited Alfriston over Easter and spent a wonderful afternoon at this pub sampling the local ales and wine. Fantastic service and you can tell the owners are passionate about this place as it is so well run.

Amazing food, staff and atmosphere. Can't say enough good things. Had incredible steak and ale pie with plenty of veg on the side. I've had many in my day and this was truly one of the best. Super tender and delicious beef. As far as price goes I don't understand complaints as it one of the more reasonable places in... More

£5.00 per pint of very indifferent ale that is brewed almost 2 miles away. WHAT A RUDDY RIP OFF!!!! Was a regular here especially in the off season but its the last they will see of me. Just walk a mile down river to the Plough and Harrow and get a better pint at £3.60 plus the whole pub experience... More

A friend and I stayed here one night on a walking trip. The pub was perfect, a lovely big fire to dry out and warm up in front of, good quality, well cooked food and a warm and welcoming atmosphere plus nice wine. Our room had everything we needed, was clean and comfortable with a large shared bathroom close by... More

Found this delightful Inne whilst staying in Alfriston. We had chance to have a very pleasant drink and evening snack. There is a nice and varied menu but I can certainly recommend the salmon. A lovely historical pub with so many interesting features. Very friendly atmosphere and welcome and a wonderful open fire. What is not to like?

Was here for a walking tour, coincident to the Halloween party... and the pub is clearly well known by the locals. All friendly, average food (some effort being made, but...) and good beer. Other places may have a better kitchen, but the service was good, and as a hotel, was perfectly comfortable, given its age and "charms"

Had a very pleasant lunch there recently. The host/owner/manager was very nice, helpful without being intrusive. My only other comment, and it is not meant to be negative, is that from outside it is not clear if the establishment is open or not. Some lights, signs in the window??

As I travel on my own, but with my dog I'm always thankful for dog friendly places to stay. Ye Olde Smugglers Inne didn't disappoint. Having stayed there before after getting off the ferry in Newhaven, I knew where to go and park, so that was easy. But having booked through an agent the message about my dog accompanying me...
