I've not seen bedrooms like this for 20 years. We had to be moved because the heating in the original room wasn't working. It's a really old place - I get that - but that's no excuse for dirty carpets, mould in the shower, or light fittings hanging out the ceiling. We cancelled our second night - couldn't bear it... This is a warm and welcoming pub with a brilliant menu. The venison casserole was delicious, desserts delightfully sinful, but with a good choice of ice-creams and sorbets. Friendly and prompt service. Definitely recommended.

Midweek lunch with my mother. The George is a traditional English pub serving food. The bar area is well decorated, warm with plenty of tables of different sizes, so they an cater for parties of 8/10. The menu is excellent, I have the Ham Egg & c=Chips which was very good.

Great cozy pub with fire and accommodated 7 rather loud ladies after a walk. Huge choice of gin at very reasonable prices with a lovely atmosphere! Rooms in hotel also good so worth a stay

We stayed for the weekend. You can't book online and the website doesn't sell itself, so I had taken this as a good omen, thinking they were clearly busy enough anyway so must be good. I was right, the George is better than anticipated. The place is full to bursting with character, but its well used and well loved with... More

Beautiful old pub with open fire, hops hanging from the beams and a real sense of local community and their dogs! Lovely local ale, great fish pie and a ridiculously good banoffee pie (although too much cream to finish!). This was a real treat at the end of a long day hiking. The staff are lovely too.

We stayed in a B&B just outside Alfriston whilst walking The South Downs Way and chose this restaurant as it was slightly quieter than the pub across the road. As it was a Sunday evening the restaurant was fairly quiet but the reception was friendly and the service good. The food was very good without being exceptional. All nicely presented.... More

We had dinner in the George Inn when we recently stayed at the Deans Place hotel. The food was very good and they had a very good choice of real ale. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would go back to this pub again👍

Had a lovely meal here - tasty and hearty. In fact, if anything, the portions were a little large! We were back for drinks the following evening as we'd really enjoyed the atmosphere (and my husband like the beer!)

Popped in for a drink and a bite to eat here during a weekend stay in Alfriston and ended up staying for a good few hours. The staff were incredibly friendly, efficient, helpful and polite. The choice of drinks was excellent (always good to see Silent pool gin on the menu) as was the choice of food. We decided to... More
