Came in for a quick bit and a couple of beers, and as always the offering of local/interesting/modern beers where fantastic. This time I had a can of Brighton bier's latest offering "old Skool IPA" a nod to the birth of craft ale on the American west coast in the eighties. Paired with the most amazing ox cheek and spelt... We lunched here with friends while in Brighton for the weekend. Bustling wine bar and eaterie which, sadly, we didn't find particularly friendly. Wine selection was extensive but pricey and when my husband dared ask for draught lager, they were horrified. I shared the fish "Plateaux" which was bream served whole with samphire and mussels. Not particularly tasty, well presented... More

Sadly after looking at the menu board we left as there was nothing that either of us fancied. The restaurant was buzzing and the people appeared to be in the 30-40s age group. They allowed us to finish our pre dinner drink and were very polite as we left.

Quiet on arrival but got busy as the evening progressed. Food was delicious I had the ox cheek to start followed by the rib eye steak served with the most delicious potatoes ( I want the recipe please). Relaxed but excellent service from a lovely French? Lady , apologies for not asking your name, and Alex. We sat at the... More

We celebrated my husband's birthday this weekend and chose Plateau because I know I can rely on it being an amazing experience from the superb menu to the amazing cocktails (they made us our favourite Dark n' Stormys even though not on the menu) and last but not least of course the wonderful, kind and accommodating staff (Marta is a... Our 4th visit to Plateau has sadly highlighted a steady decline in the food but no corresponding decrease in price. From the first visit with incredible sharing platters packed with an amazing variety of tasty and unusually cooked meat or fish to a quite dull selction of sharing dishes and an uninspiring selection of standard main courses. We had a... More

The food was certainly worth the wait. With this being the only cafe open in a 1 mile radius that early (that we could find near the start of the race that is) they had underestimated how busy they were going to be so the service was very slow. However the choice they offered was incredible and they catered for... More

Arrived here on Friday 3rd as we were staying in Brighton and this place was recommended to us. We were quite looking forward to eating here. Arrived and it was very busy. Sat at the bar first to have a drink and then witnessed a couple in there with a dog (not a guide dog). The dog then proceeded to... More

Slightly frosty reception. Erratic blackboard menu. Food ok but far too many additional sauces etc that did not enhance the dishes. Two dishes very salty. Staff enthusiasm over the wines not reflected in their quality. Overall disappointing should try harder at understanding that the customer is the priority not trying to prove how clever they are.

Have been to Brighton many, many times and it is one of 'our places'. We always park in the same place and basically come out opposite this place. We've tried a few places in this street but always favour the independents to the chains. This time, we were down for a bit of black and white photography (where better than... More

Description
Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, BrightonWe are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails? They’re probably the best in town & although we don’t serve Carlsberg we do serve some pretty imaginative beers from around the world. We have some top quality spirits, including some rare rum, whisky & cognac…and I almost forgot, keep an eye out for the ‘cocktail de la semaine’ & ‘beer of the moment’.There is no set way to visit Plateau, you can match the wine to the food or the food to the wine. Pop in just for a drink, a few bites or a three-course meal – the idea is that you do whatever suits you.
