We stumbled upon this pub by chance and so glad we did. As soon as we entered we were met by friendly locals offering us a table to join them. The atmosphere was superb. Everything in the pub has a price tag on so you can buy if you wish including tables and chairs ! We were told that someone went to the toilet and when he returned the chair he was sitting in had been sold very quirky. Would definitely recommend this micro pub.

I'm a big fan of micropubs and trying to find some local ale and this place ticked all the boxes for me. They have a great selection of ale at a great price and also had some nice finger food on offer (Pork pie etc.) Only downside was that it was all Cask beer and no keg but great place and would love to come back again.

In Rye for a 4 day break and visited this wonderful micro pub at every opportunity. A great choice of 8 ales, all local, and gravity poured. If you are not an ale drinker there were plenty of ciders and gins to choose from. Unfortunately they were awaiting a pork pie delivery whilst we were there but the scotch eggs were good value and tasty. A mixture of locals and visitors and everyone was very friendly and most had a story to tell. Very popular with a constant stream of customers and a nice way to wile away a few hours. Will certainly be visiting again when next in the area.

What to say. Fantastic Beer and Cider in an old water pumping station. Pork pies and Scotch eggs are on sale to soak up the booze. The pub sells everything inside. Old antiques to the chairs you sit on. A real gem of a place.

If you love friendly service, banter and a truly delicious pint then this is the first place you should be going to in Rye. Having travelled from Berkshire to Rye, we had heard of the Micropub but it far exceeded expectations. The locals are very friendly and chatty, which made me and my Boyfriend feel really welcome. We then walked to Camber Sands after a very tasty Scotch Egg and Cheese Roll (with homemade chutney no less) and were so happy with our experience that we returned for some evening pints afterwards. For good quality beer and even better company, we couldn't argue with the prices at the Water Works.

Super friendly welcome, great selection of beers but it was the hot spiced cider that drew us in. We were quickly seated and offered a scotch egg taster while we waited for our hot spiced cider (delicious) to be brought over by a very friendly lady. The chap was brilliant at getting everyone seated and jovially explaining the 'micropub etiquette' of sharing tables and saying hello to your neighbours. Definitely worth a visit for a pint or two, you might even make some new friends! Loved it.

Oh gods, what can I say? The wife and I decided to pop in on a whim at 5:30pm and stayed until closing time. Charming, traditional "last orders" bell and call from the staff and all. This micro pub is eclectically decorated with vintage/antique furniture, objects and knicknacks - many of which are actually for sale including the prints and artwork. It all works, and helps create a cozy and friendly atmosphere. We sampled the majority of the local ciders (local beers are also on offer). We also had two of the locally made Scotch eggs which were delicious, as well as feeding the "scooby snacks" from the bar to the dog of a regular. Cannot praise the staff enough, they've created something a little special. We popped in again the following day for a final pint and Scotch Egg as we could not resist. Do note that food wise they only offer the locally made Scotch eggs, locally made pork pies and maybe pickled eggs. It's not a restaurant or gastro-pub. Do look up the history of the building. It's been a water pump for the town (for about 300 years), a soup kitchen, a public toilet and now the micro pub.

Pop in to the pub every now and then. Never disappointed! The landlord is hilarious and friendly, and the rest of the staff are great, all know the beer and cider, and always happy to help with any local info. Close to the station and bus stops, and often have scotch eggs and pork pies available (best scotch egg I’ve ever eaten). An AMAZING and welcoming pub for tourists and locals alike, deserves its place as a must-do in rye!

My partner and I visited this pub twice during our stay in Rye. It had a great selection of beers, ciders and spirits at a very good price. There was chat about the scotch eggs and pork pies but unfortunately due to the high demand (word gets round!) they were sold out! However, the best thing about the pub is the company, both from the staff who work behind the bar and the locals drinking with us. They advised us on places to visit, and arranged taxis in a place where it's much harder than normal. The pub is not just a great watering hole, but also a great community hub in the centre of town which is a must visit if you plan to spend time in Rye.

Great little bar with seating inside and out. Staff were friendly and welcoming and selection of drinks very wide, especially beers and ciders. Food was limited to snacks, pork pies and Scotch Eggs which were yummy and well worth a try. Atmosphere was fun and relaxed, we will certainly be back on our next visit to Rye

What a brilliant place to visit. One of the best and friendliest micropubs I’ve been in. Great atmosphere in an historic old building. The landlord made sure everyone had a seat and encouraged conversation between punters. Dog friendly place as well, little Obi can testify to that as he munched on doggie biscuits. Good selection of ales and ciders all reasonably priced. If we pop back to Rye again, we’ll deffo come here again.

What a gem of a place. Stopped for a drink while spending a few days in the area. Person behind the bar was very helpful and polite and recommend a local ale, of which there were several, comparable to my partners usual tipple of choice. Barrels are all on show in the wall behind the bar and the pint that was pulled for us looked clear and crisp and tasted lovely. I had one of the several alcohol free offerings as I was driving. It was so enjoyable we decided to have another round of drinks and also to try one of their local pork pies and scotch eggs. These were served with mustard and relish on the side and were delicious. The bar area although small - seating inside for approx 25 with further seating outside - was cosy. There are numerous antiquities on show around the walls which are also available to buy and which adds to the quirkiness of the place. It is dog friendly and has its own pub dog called sparkle who is delightful and sports a collar with a ‘ do not feed’ logo on. Sparkle clearly cannot read and remains ever hopeful that crumbs will come his way. All in all a delightful place to spend a leisurely hour or two.

This is a place to drink good beer, good cider or good gin. If you like any of the above, then this is the place for you. Wine is available, but pretty limited. It is a quirky venue, with a good atmosphere and the staff are very friendly and welcoming. There is some outdoor seating where you can watch the world go by. Food is limited to pork pies and scotch eggs and the like, the scotch eggs we had were excellent. Will visit again when next in Rye.

I'd seen the reviews on here before we'd come to Rye & thought well that sounds amazing, but its now got a lot live up to. IT DID & more, all the reviews had elements of what, combined, make the Waterworks such a fantstic place to visit . The landlord & his family are all extremely friendly & passionate, they are knowledgable about their beer. He is hilarious at all the right moments & gave us great advise about the beer & restaurants to visit. I even managed to buy a gorgeous table lamp from them on my first visit. I will DEFINITELY be visisting again, so glad we found it.
