Four of us were holidaying in Rye over the May Bank Holiday weekend and ended up in here as it was one of the few restaurants that had availability. And it was a major stroke of luck that we did. The food was tremendous. It started with the dips served with our poppadoms and continued at an extremely high level throughout the various dishes that we ordered. The staff were extremely friendly and very efficient. Overall it was a great experience and I have no hesitation recommending this restaurant to anyone who wants top quality Indian food while visiting the area. The following morning I discovered my mobile phone had gone. I assumed it had fallen out of my pocket but I had to leave Rye before the restaurant opened as I was heading elsewhere for a few days. After calling the restaurant, they confirmed they had my phone and mailed it to me so it was waiting for me when I arrived home in Edinburgh. Well done to Mr Karim and his team for top quality food AND going above and beyond to return my phone.

What can I say one best Indian restaurants in south east in my opinion, been there few times now . Very friendly staff led to our table the restaurant was well decorated and spotlessly clean. Menu were easy to order from and staff more than willing to advise on your food , the food was cooked to perfection and well presented, good sized portions , good drinks menu as well . Very reasonably priced would definitely recommend

This restaurant fails to deliver on its promise to “take Indian dining to the next level” The food Is good, very good in fact, but the service is chaotic and disjointed with unacceptable wait times from the beginning and male table servers who have neither personality or the least interest in engaging with customers. I had booked a table for 7:30 and on arrival was greeted by the proprietor, a bearded gentleman (I assume) who acknowledged our booking and said he would have a table prepared for us, he didn’t prepare one he simply attended to other issues! Eventually, the lady behind the bar, asked if we were ok and acknowledged that she had taken the booking earlier, greeted us in a very welcoming, friendly and professional manner and at once proceeded to prepare our table. Other tables who arrived after we did were served before us. Drinks and popadoms arrived promptly but after that it went down hill. At the end of our meal we were not asked if we would like coffee, dessert or more drinks - neither did we receive the courtesy of hand cleaners that other guests had received at the end of their meal. Payment was another ordeal and we had to ask the proprietor twice for our bill in a 20 minutes wait period. We were not asked did we enjoy our food. The one saving grace to this establishment is the friendly girl with the glasses who works behind the bar - she is equipped with the friendly, professional and welcoming manner that the rest of the staff urgently need to acquire.

Visited this Indian restaurant whilst staying in rye. We live in south London so we have plenty of Indians to choose from and myself and my wife have been to goa twice so its safe to say we love a nice curry. It was sunday night and it was full of diners. There doesnt seem to be many Indian restaurants in rye. When i looked this place up and looked at the menu i did see the prices were slightly on the expensive side. But living in london we have a massive amount of choice. The decor was nice. The staff are super friendly. We have the mixed kebab starter. That was amazing. Meat so moist and juicy and flavours amazing. Wife got prawn puree. She was very pleased with hers. Wife for her main got Dum gosht. It was a dish cooked with lamb then covered in bread then cooked. This looked like a massive curry pie. Very nice. I got the gosht kalia. This was amazing. Have to say this has to be the best curry we’ve had since visiting goa last year. The prices may be a tiny bit more expensive. But the quality makes up for it. When we get a cheap curry up town theres not alot of meat in the curry. This was plentiful. Bill came to under £60. 2 starters 2 mains and a couple of drinks. Money well spent. We could hear people ordering and it seemed people just wanted kormas or chicken tika massala constantly. Be abit more adventurous guys and girls. You wont regret it. The flavours are there.

We visited this restaurant tonight and the food was very very bland. The table we sat at was in between two larger tables which meant throughout our meal we had constant banging on our chairs as they tried to push the food trolley in between the tables. What we don’t understand is we had a superb meal less than two months ago and ordered the same food, expecting the same standard. They are very generous with their portion sizes

After the reviews, a disappointment. The food was nice to look at but bland and lacking in spice, perhaps not to discourage people from choosing wine from a long wine list. My companion who had lived in Bangladesh for two years determined it was standard British Indian grub and bore little relation to food in Dacca or Brick Lane. Comfortable seats. Service was attentive, perhaps overly so. We giggled when, even before we started looking at the menu, we were asked for the third time whether we wanted drinks or poppadoms.

I am not the greatest of food critics, but I know when something taste good and I appreciate good service. I have just recently enjoyed a wonderful dining experience that simply had to be shared. On the evening of 22nd July 2021, I had the pleasure of meeting up with friends in Rye and went on to the Mahid Lounge for a meal. On entering the establishment, we received the warmest of welcomes from the owner Karim and was shown to the table prepared for us, with lead crystal flutes at each place setting and Moet champagne chilling in the ice bucket nearby. After a few introductions and a brief presentation of the menu choices Karim had planned for our evening, the dishes began coming out. I am not one for taking photos of meals, but when our plates were laid in front of us, I was in awe and utter amazement. Each plate were individually decorated, trimmed with garnishes and inspiring sentiments that made us all buzz with delight. It was extremely difficult to contain our excitement as the never ending stream of first courses were laid on the table, each appearing more appetising than the previous as Karim offered a short explanation of the ingredients and the method of preparation. The sumptuous amount of delicious tasting dishes with such opulent presentation, continued appearing through many courses and well into the evening like a kings banquet. Although I seem to be focusing solely on the great food, which has to be the most important aspect of any dining experience, I also have to mention the most excellent service and the kind sincere warm politeness extended from Karim and all of his very courteous team. It is truly a fine dining experience not to be missed, so if you are ever passing through Rye, try to allow a little extra time to pop into the Mahid Lounge for a brief moment of sheer indulgence. Thank you Karim All the best Delroy

We were visiting Rye for one evening and booked before our stay, the restaurant is a must if you visit the area. The food is excellent and well presented, the restaurant is very clean and all the staff had shields over their faces. We ordered chicken tikka Parthia and a house special which we were told are their own recipes, the food was very tasty with lots of flavour. Overall a very pleasant experience with excellent food, the staff are also very friendly and we did not feel rushed at any time We would definitely eat there again if in the area

we were given a very warm welcome, by the owner, we were very impressed with the modern yet traditional decor, and ambience. We were blown away from the starters which were beautifully presented and tasted delicious. The main courses were very delicious too, with my husbands being recommended by the owner, and mine being tasty too. This is a very high end restaurant with superb food that has a ,modern twist on traditional Indian food, yet is really superb value. The service was very attentive, especially from the lovely owner, we would highly this restaurant, it will be the best Indian meal you will ever have.

Visited on our last night of a 2 week holiday staying in the area. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff. Covid measures were great with staff wearing visors and tables kept apart. Food was delicious and portion sizes were spot on. My husband said it was probably the best curry he had ever had after having the recommended fish curry. Really good value and the friendly staff are lovely. Highly recommended!

We had an interesting night at The Mahdi Lounge! We had a trainee waiter who spent most of the evening apologising. Our menus were taken away before we had ordered, after asking could we order food it had been assumed we already had! I ordered a bottle of Cobra, our waiter decided to pour it for me, leaving me an inch of beer and nine inches of froth! When I pointed out the problem he took it away, pouring away all the froth leaving me an inch of beer in my glass and inch of beer left in the bottle. The manager ordered me another beer and poured it perfectly. The food was very good, and well priced. Air conditioning was just a bit too good, we were freezing!

The kebab and chicken tikka starters were very nice but expensive for such tiny portions. The green chilli chicken masala was tasty and a reasonable tandoori mixed platter, both with a very generous portion of rice which was good. We’ve eaten a lot of restaurant tarka dhal and this was easily the best we’ve ever had! Absolutely delicious. A side point is the smallest print on a menu we’ve ever encountered, not helped by the colour changing lights - bring reading glasses if you need them.

The standards set by this restaurant is remarkable, from the outstanding service to the mouth watering food. Everything was perfect, the food was extremely tasty especially the garlic Dum Ghost; setting was set on the dot as it was a nice vibey and chill atmosphere to dine in; service provided was utterly amazing as we were attended whenever with a smile and never being too invasive or vacant alongside the friendliness that provided a comfortable and pleasant experience. Probably the best dining experience that I have had at any Indian restaurant.

Really attentive and pleasant staff. My partner and I experienced the very best tasting meal that we have had from an Indian restaurant ever. This is not a good thing as this establishment has wrecked the appreciation we have previously enjoyed from our local curry eateries and is too far away to visit regularly. Do not go here if you enjoy Indian cuisine as they will spoil it for the rest. Unless of course you live in Rye you lucky things.
