Whilst visiting st albans we decided to visit this pub which is apparently the oldest. Well we walked in it was fairly quiet but looked ok. Some staff were very friendly others down right rude. Anyway we ordered our drinks which in my opinion were...More

Reputed to be the oldest pub in the country, although I think there might be others claiming that accolade, Ye Olde Fighting Cocks is well worth a visit. Largely due to its historic reputation and also its location on the edge of Verulanium Park this...More

The outside promises drinks in a historic building but the inside could be any old pub. We walked from the town specifically but the service wasn't particularly friendly and there wasn't a lot of information about the history of the building. We ordered food that...More

Called to book a table, whoever answered said he was too busy to talk and could I call back later. Umm, no, there are loads of other pubs in St Albans, and this one doesn't seem to want any more business.

Popped in for a bite of lunch after a walk around the town. This pub advertises itself as the oldest pub in England... well in terms of service, quality of decor and food, it is still in the middle ages. The barman was unfriendly, even...More

After walking in the park with my 1.5 year old, I came here on my own with him asleep in the buggy. Asked for a beer and a pizza and to sit in the garden. I had to give a table number but didn't want...More

Stumbled across this historic pub set in a beautiful location. A mid afternoon visit so we did not order food however, as soon as we walked in we loved this pub. Landlord could not be friendlier and the atmosphere, although not busy, was warm and...More

I live just around the corner and the Fighting Cock has been my local for longer than I can remember. Food is great, wide selection of unusual beers and friendly staff. Lots of history to boot! Definitely recommended.
