I lunch at HDV about three times a year and it is usually a real treat. Today as always the ambience was perfect (on the sunny terrace) and the waiting staff were charming and helpful. However the food was definitely not up to standard. My friend's salad was clumsily presented and apparently tasteless. My salad was quite tasty but the... More

We went for lunch to celebrate a special birthday. Went to the bar first ordered Champagne which though elegantly served took too long to arrive.Food orders were taken in the bar after handing out menus at the sme time as the drink arrival which gives a hint of impatience. The restaurant benefitted by the replacement of those awful chairs that used... We went for dinner here. Started with cocktails in the bar, which were fine. Went through to dinner and I had a beef carpaccio which was also fine but would have benefited from a few capers scattered about. For some reason the capaccio was served with a small scotch egg, which was a nice enough bite, but totally out of... More

we visited on Saturday 15th april for our family easter celebration, 8 of us were disappointed by the poor cooking and long delays between first and main courses. all food was overdone and mostly cold on arrival. the staff although numerous didn't appear to care very much about our experience. we were given a discount of £100 after complaining. The... More

We had a delicious dinner which started with a selection of 4 artisan breads. The Fixed price menu is limited to a few choices at each course, but the qualty is still good. The a la carte has a wide range of options to suit all tastes. The food arrived well presented and each course was delicious. The service was... More

Enjoyed pre-theatre drinks in the cocktail lounge before the performance at The Assembly Hall oposite the hotel. Very pleasant surroundings and professional staff. Drinks a little expensive but not for the venue.

From the moment we arrived, this was clearly going to be a great evening. Very welcoming and attentive from the start. All food was superb, the chateaubriand was certainly the highlight and we were very well looked after by our waiter, Andrew. Will definitely be back.

Nice setting and comfortable lounge. Service was efficient. The afternoon tea proved a disappointment for all despite the long explanation about the patisserie chef making all the cakes especially to order. Didn't feel special at at all. The dry slabs of gluten free bread and scones were difficult to swallow. Plain cucumber, plain ham and tomato with onion were the... More

Just as I was deciding to take a few friends out to celebrate my Birthday, I received an e-mail with an offer for the above. This seemed to fit the bill! I booked late- the day before- as no slots were available on-line for my chosen time. Quibbles would be that the lady who met me said she had just... More
