Great food, boar and shoulder of lamb were amazing, very busy in a Thursday evening made for a great evening. Service was quick and attentive.

In Ambleside for our 25th wedding anniversary and didn't book a table so delighted when they could fit us in. Had the moules marinara with warm bread and goats cheese with Parma ham both excellent. For the main we went for the beef bourguignon and chicken stroganoff which came with veg. Hugh portions that they were happy to put what... More
I don't remember the last time I ate something that made me smile so much! I had the lamb Henry and it was so delicious I genuinely wanted to go and hug the chef! Amazing food, lovely wine and great friendly service! If you're heading up there then book yourselves in!
Booking four days in advance we only managed to get a table for 6pm. No bother, our early dinner was delicious. I had scampi, my other half had cumberland sausage and mash. Both were really well cooked and tasty. We both had the eton mess for dessert. It was fabulous but too big a portion to eat it all. Staff... More
We arrived at the restaurant five minutes early for an 8pm dinner booking on Easter Sunday. A man (Matthew?) greeted us with the words "Your table will be ready at 8." and brushed past us as we stood in the middle of the restaurant. He passed us again and said the same thing. No smile, no pleasantries, no offer for... More
Advisable to book a table for this restaurant. We booked for the later meal, which was after 8. The restaurant was busy and buzzy when we arrived but we were promptly sat at our table. We opted for two courses for 19.95 per person. We had a starter and main course, both were beautifully presented and were delicious. Would definately... More
My friend and I went to the restaurant thinking it was a 4.5 star restaurant. The state of the decor, bathroom, uniforms, menus were all less than impressive so we were hesitant to order anything too expensive, as the prices were pretty exorbitant for the look of the place. We both got pasta and it wasn't bad but it wasn't... More
We visited Matthew's a couple of years ago and were disappointed with the service and attitude of the staff. Therefore it has been a while since we decided to visit again - this time we were very glad we did. We booked for a Tuesday night and were glad that we did, whilst not full, you could struggle on another... More
Too expensive for what it was. Food basic, good just basic. We were hoping to eat more local British dishes in the lakes not French/Italian. The earlier menu looked much better I couldn't understand why they had two menus it was all really confusing. Staff were friendly enough. Decor is dated and doesn't reflect lake district.
