Called in on shopping trip from Lancaster with partner, staff very attentive and polite. Extensive choice of food, both opted for the fish and chips , bread and butter and beverage. All for £9.99. Staff went the extra mile as initially only one serving available but was then informed an extra portion could be made. Upon arrival the meals were the best fish and chips I have tasted for a long time. Recommend highly. The restaurant surroundings also add to the pleasant ambiance, cottage style beamed ceilings and Woodburner. We shall definitely return on our next trip.

Can only give 5 stars, but worth so much more. Due to the current crisis, the Joshua Tree decided to diversify into offering home delivered meals. The verdict? As good as the restaurant meals. All freshly prepared and delivered to your door. Personally had the Braised Beef and Onions, Fish Pie and the Chicken Stroganoff. Also the puddings on offer. Superb. Excellent portions and beats cooking yourself. I recommend anyone to try. Support your local family business. Well done Nick, Shelley and the boss Lillian!

Approximately 3 years ago, Twelve guys walked unannounced into The Joshua Tree and demanded breakfast before commencing a day sampling the fine beers of Cumbria. We left an hour later with full bellies and a smile on our face. Nothing was too much trouble (we have later discovered that this included sneaking out of the back door for extra bread to feed us). During the intervening years we have returned on a few occasions and are always welcomed like old friends. The food is always freshly prepared and served with a smile. Kendal has more than its fair share of eateries but we would never consider anywhere else.

The service and quality of food was excellent. One got the impression that whoever cooked and prepared the food actually cared with what they were presenting to the customer. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone visiting Kendal. Well done.

Visited with my family and really impressed. On an oppressively hot day the hostess kindly moved us to a cooler table downstairs. The food itself was excellent - as a vegan my baked potato gnocchi was delicious. The staff were friendly and courteous despite the conditions and most impressively of all dealt with calmness and compassion when a fellow diner was taken ill. A challenging situation was professionally negotiated and the kindness shown to the ill gentleman and his wife was a lesson to all of us.

We popped into the Joshua tree just by chance and initially only for coffee. Two people passing by on the street outside it recommended we try it so we went in. We immediately k we we’d made the right choice when the owner made us feel welcome and struck up a conversation. We ended up with lunch one choice of which was not on the menu but offered when one of our party wasn’t sure of other items. We also tried the home made scones and cake all of which was exceptional. A debate was had with the owner as to the correct way to gave the Jam and cream, also whether or not the ga e butter too. The line was drawn when our friend suggested the Essex way by having brown sauce as an extra layer between the two. If you are in Kendal you really need to visit this little gem of a cafe bistro it thoroughly deserves its top rating

Lovely little cafe, definitely a hidden gem in my opinion. Food is delicious, can definitely recommend the breakfast and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They also have a few local artworks on the walls which can be purchased. Highly recommend a visit.

We attended the "Starter and Pudding club" evening which is a great concept - choose any 5 courses from a selection of starters and desserts! We opted for 3 starters and 2 desserts and every single dish was absolutely delicious. The service is always friendly and it is very reasonably priced relative to other local eateries. Would definitely recommend a visit!

My two sons and I visited Joshua Tree today for lunch , and we absolutely fall in love with this little gem. Everything from service to food was lovely. Boys had two courses from their kids menu and both were very nice, tasty, nicely presented and very generous portions. I had the smoked salmon bagel and again it did not disappoint. The young ladies who served our food were attentive but not over the top and just really friendly. I was also really pleased when the bill was presented to us, it was good value for money. I would definitely recommend this charming place. Thank you guys, we will be back.

Hidden down a courtyard, with a wood burning stove. the cosy cafe both attentive, pleasant staff, and a good range of food. The meze was outstanding - reasonable portions of olives, tzatsiki, hummus, feta, falafels and side salad with TWO pittas. I opted for an extra side salad. The coffee was spot on. If I hadn't had an extra side salad, it would've been under £10!! They are open lunch time, apart from starter/pudding evenings. excellent food, table service, staff

What a hidden gem. Was taken here by mum who is a return customer. It's a cute cafe tucked away down a ginnel. There is outdoor seating and plentiful socially distanced indoor seating. The food was delicious and great value portions. The staff were personable and were amenable to my requests for food alterations (no cheese in my sandwich). Lovely place.

This cafe is a hidden gem worth looking for. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. We had children’s chicken strips, a club sandwich and a special sandwich and they were all delicious. A definite recommendation.

Very nice good, we had broccoli & garden pea soup, cheese scone and seabass fillet, all are delicious especially the soup, so creamy but not stuffy. Highly recommended. Btw, too yummy, forgot to take photos for food.

Proper tasty, friendly (totally normal) people, who on the other side of the counter are funny and laughable. A Starter, Main and Dessert for £23! Unbelievable quality at that price too. We had the Pate & Goats Cheese for starters, I had the Lamb Kofta, Banksy had the Chicken and Serrano Ham Risotto… Walked out 2 hours later, proper stuffed… Thoroughly recommended, best to book to avoid disappointment.
