Great vibe with old fashion decor exactly as a pub should be , loads of cask ales keenly priced, the food was fresh and all cooked to order , I recommend the blackened chicken salad .if your passing pop in as we did as the staff were really friendly particularly Lorna and Martin who made our visit really special .many... Not much more to say than how charming this place is, always friendly, always full, traditional and inviting - best pub in the area!

Been here several times over the years, not much has changed. A good solid pub. Sure it could be modernized but then it would lose its charm. Friendly bar staff and reasonable choice of beer. Will be back again the next time i am over in the UK

Great sandwiches, Solid portions/value and salty local London warmth. A great little find. Old school decor, pub characters, and a good beer selection. Outside tables next best after 2pm when the north facing sun hits the pub. Upstairs room for large bookings and friendly staff. It's a good place for a quiet lunch sandwich (comes with chips) and a pint... More

This pub is excellent! I know i know, I didn't give it an excellent score, but that's because it needs to get rid of the curtains, put in a wooden floor and play some music... but then it would be rammed! The staff are friendly, good selection of beer at the right prices. BUT..the food, well its embarrassing good for... More

I first visited the Calthorpe in the early '90s and not much has changed thank goodness. Amazingly, in this day and age, it is still run by the same family. Young's Bitter and Special were available on my recent visit, in addition to two guest ales and a cask cider. The Special was in good condition. The food is tasty,... More

A blast to the old days and why pubs are closing. Beer had no head, it should have been good but just not that well kept. Bulk standard poor red wine too. Don't be surprised to find them Closed down. Shame because it should be a classic English pub on the corner.

If you wish to witness the central London community then this is the venue to check out. An excellent range of Young's ales, great service, great food and a TV showing live sport. What's not to like?

If you're looking for a pub where you might meet people who actually live in London, this is a good port of call. It is very charming and the range of ales is good. Prices aren't too bad either.

Been here several times and the staff are always pleasant, the food is excellent and the prices are all very reasonable. Liked the venue so much that we enjoyed our staff Christmas party there for an evening in December. Highly recommend.

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighbourhood Profile
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.
