I had afternoon tea with my daughter on Thursday at the Court restaurant. The atmosphere was lovely, surrounded by history in a airy iconic building. We had a groupon voucher which stated sandwiches, cakes, torts, tarts and procesco. The sandwich were ok but they did go hard after a while but the broccoli and cheddar tart was fantastic, the pastry... More

The only reason I'm giving this place 2 "stars" is because the server was decent. The food (fish & chips) was not good at all. I usually enjoy bland food, but it was beyond bland–to the point where I was so annoyed that I couldn't enjoy it. Eat somewhere else.

On a Friday evening, when the British Museum opens late, the Court Restaurant offers a calm and pleasant atmosphere. We had the American Dream menu and the food was ok and good value. What a pity that the toilets, situated down a flight of stairs, behind heavy metal doors (like a nuclear bunker), were dirty. They did not flush properly... More

Yes, I had a set menu and used a Groupon Voucher. Perhaps this doomed us to experience some of the poorest food we have eaten in a London restaurant on any basis. The menu was themed to match the art expo,'American Dream'. It was 'American Nightmare' as eating goes. Dry, wizened hambuger patties without taste, served on slabs of unadorned... More

The greeter seated us straight away as she noticed my girlfriend is very pregnant. Afternoon tea was good and a lot more than we could eat (don't order one each). Nice doggy box provided. We were sitting near the entrance and could see as a queue began to build. The manager (I assume he was the manager as he seemed... More

Management response:

I am so sorry that you felt that i was not being cooperative, But due to the sensitivity of the issue, i could only ask you to wait upstairs until your partner was ready to be assisted . As you were aware it was due to customers complaining that alliterated me to your whereabouts. And acting in there best interest... More

How lovely to be able to walk into one of the worlds great spaces, up the stairs to this very nicely laid out restaurant. Elegantly laid back. The food is generally acceptable although very expensive for what it is. They have a fixed menu (in addition to the a la carte which I would describe a middle of the road... More

Very dry cakes with hardly any fillings in the sandwiches. The worst afternoon tea I've had in London.

Initial lady was perfectly pleasant - lady who then served us and asked us to remove our water bottle from the table, which was quite amusing. At this point. she had not forgotten to give us our tap water, our prosecco and our napkins. Food, was average, as it was not fresh, some cakes on the tea were stale. Trying... More

A firm favourite for a lunch break whilst in the museum. The Court has a historic and remarkably airy setting. The food is simple and the dishes slightly unusual. The home marinated Queen olives are superb and in themselves could make for a good lunch! The main dishes are designed to support an afternoon of museuming and so are not... More

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighbourhood Profile
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
