After Twelfth Night had finished yesterday we , (3) of us had dinner in the above restaurant having done so several times before. It was again terrific. The service by a series of waitresses many of whom we have met previously appeared to be aspiring actresses. Although not terribly efficient it did not matter as they were so charming. In... More

The décor has been somewhat revamped though the utilitarian concrete wall remain the same as in its previous existence as 'The Mezzanine'. However I am pleased to report a considerable improvement in both cuisine and service. My liver pate was smooth and flavourful and my wife's pear soup was almost a meal in itself. Our coconut curry main courses featured... More

Have eaten here many times, and the standard in recent times has been fairly good. However, this evening -13/02/17 - the food was not particularly good. Had two set menus after evening performance of Hedda Gabler. Chicken pate starter was good, but although pear and celeriac soup was delicious, it was served with a stick of something unidentifiable - (meat?)... More

An excellent lunch at 'House' completed a trip for a matinee at the National Theatre. The staff was attentive, observant and polite even to the most difficult diner. Having dined here before, we were looking forward to the 'roasted octopus, cockles and smoked peppers'. The best ones we ever tasted in a restaurant and a rarity dish not seen on... More

The attraction of this restaurant is that it is in the National Theatre building, so if you attending a performance, you don't have to travel far! It is also good as they know that you are attending a performance, so they know that time is of the essence. The food is good - the steak is generous and the goose... More

Great food, terrific service and very good prices. The food was beautifully cooked and presented, as well as being a good portion size and well seasoned. Staff were attentive and friendly and the ambience is good. Altogether, very hard to fault this level of food and at £22 + service for two courses, can there be better value in London?

Our second pre-theatre visit in the last few months and the perfect accompaniment for our Travelex NT seats. Although it was busy, we found a table straightaway and our choices (kale leek and gruyere tart and a beef and ale pie) were all very good - tasty, hot and well cooked. The cake was fought over by our kids. As... More

This venue , in terms of comfort and facilities , is better than most West End theatres. Good eating and drinking for all budgets.

This place was good a couple of years ago. Not really sure what has gone wrong. 6 of us visited on a Thursday lunchtime. Food was so bland. Not one person in the party was complimentary about their food. It was so hard to get the attention of the staff. No one came back to take our drinks order, check... More

This is a good if not exceptional restaurant. It is good for a meal before or after a play, the service gearing itself to the performances. Here you can seek refuge as we did this November after a bad play. It raised our spirits slightly. We have on one occasion come here after missing the second half of a particularly... More

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
