We come back time and time again to Cafe Meraz. We love the food, waiting staff are great, it's good value with BYOB and there's always a brilliant atmosphere. Without doubt our most visited London restaurant - that's how much we enjoy it.

I used to come to Meraz Cafe a lot with Kendo chums after our Monday night practice in Hanbury Street. More than 20 years on, and after having moved out to Surrey; Meraz Cafe is the only place I will eat when visiting Spitalfields area. Visited last night after a visit to Dennis Severs house for 'Silentnight'. The crockery and... More

Hands down this has been the best Indian in brick lane, trying many other in that area. It doesn't look it but the food was great!

intimate setting with fantastic food and very pleasant staff, unlicensed but there is an off-license for drink just around the corner in Brick Lane. Really excellent food, well done!

Meraz cafe serves authentic Indian and Banglesdeshi curry zinging with flavour. The menu consists largely of dishes you won't find in your standard curry house - no korma, no vindaloo - this is real curry presented in a totally unpretentious setting by lovely staff that never pressure you, unlike many of the rivals on the main strip of Brick Lane.... On a cold night in East London there was a warm welcome at Meraz Cafe! It's more of a cafe than a restaurant experience but nothing wrong with that and the food is great, lots of dishes that you'd expect and lots of other different ones too. Friendly staff and reasonable prices. Would I go again... but of course, yes!

We were a lively group celebrating a retirement and this was a recommended option. Very good value for tasty food. BYO also helps if you are on a tight budget. Staff were patient and it felt welcoming.

Excellent food and friendly staff. I had the beef dish with boiled rice and it was beautifully tender. My partner had the lamb tikka biriani which went down a real treat.

We absolutely love this place. It was the best surprise - great curry, friendly staff and a very relaxed atmosphere. It was full and I see why.

The Meraz philosophy has not changed since 1974, it remains one of respect for cooking tradition, from which is born a consistency and an aversion to fads that is greatly appreciated by all. A respect for the patron's palate and comfort, innovating and striving to bring the best in service, atmosphere and presentation, and a passion for introducing Handi Cooked Foods to an ever growing audience.Unusual for Brick Lane, Meraz encourages BYOB.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighbourhood Profile
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
