Called in for lunch before visiting the British Museum,so glad we did. Good selection of real ales-try before you buy encouraged. Excellent home made beef pie for a tenner, friendly waitress service. Will know where to head for if in this part of London again.

Called in for lunch. We have lived quite close nearby for over four years but only just noticed it. Lovely old fashioned pub with music to suit. It was quiet today (Saturday lunch), so really tranquil for central London. And not at all pretentious which places can be around here. Food was lovely. Good menu choice and obviously home made.... I've walked from Russell Square tube to the Eastman Dental Hospital many, many times but today was the first time I've noticed a sign at the entrance to Doughty Mews advertising the presence of a pub! It proudly states "Built 1938" and, after pushing open the redoubtable doors you find yourself in a pub that, proudly, remains as it was... More

I visited this pub well over a year ago and as we were back in London in September 2016 we decided to try it again. We were not disappointed and found staff very professional food was superb and choice of beers and wines excellant. We have decided to use this pub as our choice of venue every time we come... More

Visited London recently to see some friends and visit the Dickens museum. Decided to give the Duke a try for lunch as it looked inviting and initially had an old charm about it. What a mistake to make! the pub itself is pleasant however the food was appalling! All stale and cold, chicken in particular was still frozen and presented... More

Tasty burgers, great service, lovely old wooden booths down a quiet side street. This is pretty basic but a cosy local boozer.

Wanted to meet an old chum for a quiet lunch where we could sample top quality real ale followed by a meal with great wine - so the Duke was the choice, and a great choice, too. Great food, excellent beer, lovely wine and attentive, friendly and warm service. I had a lovely salmon niçoise and my pal tucked into... More

Having come from the excellent Dickens museum just round the corner, it was not hard to imagine Dickens eating in one of the booths here. There is a lovely little restaurant side to the pub, a mish mash of old wooden tables in the saloon half, some excellent beers and a quiet atmosphere. They don't have wifi and they don't... More

We arrived after a very busy day in London feeling tired and hungry, we didn't expect much, so a soggy burger would have been fine. Instead we were treated very warmly and enjoyed a hearty home cooked meal. At the end of the meal we enjoyed a free liqueur which was a really nice touch

Good food. Good beer selection. Proper staff who are genuine, generous and warm if you're not a tool. Don't expect Starbucks fake 'have a nice day'isms. A proper welcome for adults who like good meal and a few drinks. Outside area for smoking or sun sitting weather permitting. A deco gem of a pub. Home to writers, characters, the occaisional... Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighbourhood Profile
Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
