What a gem of a pub, went there with 3 friends on a Tuesday afternoon and had a lovely time, the Harvey's best bitter was exceptional, the food was very good (and lots of it), a great spot to enjoy a few pints and a chat, we Wii definitely be returning.

Wow what a find this pub is, real old London feel to the place with original 60's decor. Somehow this pub remains untouched in a renovated area of the Borough in London. Great atmosphere in this place, with a very welcoming and entertaining bearded barman. Without doubt this place serves the best pint of mild in London and at only... More

Simple proper pub. No hipsters or other tribes. Beer. Good food if you need it. Conversation. What pubs used to be like.

If you are in Borough, this a great little pub off the beaten track and tourist route. The food was excellent and the staff knows their beer. They were able to make suggestions and offer tastes before we decided on which brews we wanted.

Quite nice British fare that seems to be homemade. My husband loves their game pie, steak and kidney pudding etc. Nice British ambience.

Luckily, there's many pubs like this around the country but in London they're alas becoming scarce. This is a real pub for real people. Although I'm not a big fan of Harveys (their best is a bit too sweet for my liking), they run some great pubs. I think this may be the only Harveys pub in London. I travelled... More

We came on a pub crawl at 9pm and gave up on the concept of leaving it to go anywhere else. Companions had dressed crab and whitebait and were pleased with it. The Pub is a flagship pub for Harveys the Sussex brewer, and it had Tom Paine - a good strong ale - on tap. This has won numerous... More

Walked through the doors and thought I'd stepped back in time. Old wood everywhere a rug on the floor and a friendly barman. Menu, a yellow sheet of paper stuck to the wall. Ordered game pie, which when it arrived looked like something my old nan would have dished up, lovely. Stuffed to the rim with meat, tasty gravy and... More

Good no nonsense pub close to Borough tube station with no music or television, or gaming machines. Just good beer and a quiet place to meet friends. Recommended!

As someone else has said, pubs like this used to be all over London, but sadly not any more. This place is a true gem. Unspoilt, roomy, friendly, great beers from Harveys and very good food. We will certainly visit again, but in the winter months, to try something else from their lovely menu of traditional English pub meals. We... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
