You know a place is good when it's this busy. The door staff do a truly awesome job fitting you in even if it's just a corner to stand in before you get a place at the bar. Bravo!

Jose's is tiny and busy every night with good reasons. Interesting tapas and raciones of superb jamon, super service and an irresistible buzz. Great regional winelist too offering good value with careful choice. So good we were back within 2 weeks and it was just as good. Couples & groups of four easiest and you may have to stand against... The food is superb, traditional tapas with a few added gems. Highlight during our visit was a cod dish, which was superb. Some great wines by the glass or reasonably priced bottles. Service is attentive without being intrusive. This is a tapas bar, not an a la carte restaurant so anticipate standing, or sharing a small space with others -... More

Friday lunchtime between Christmas and New Year, when much of London is away or on Oxford street, Jose's was bustling. The manager gave us a great seat at the wide marble bar. There is free still and sparkling water, a welcome trend in London, which has excellent tap water. There are some good Spanish wines by the glass such as... More

I came here with work colleagues in the summer - thank goodness there was aircon and a fan, as I needed it....sherry, tapas, raciones, peppers..salami and chorizo all to be recommended. A bit pricey for a family - great for a couple and excellent choice if your boss is paying !

I had lunch here with a friend on a recent visit to London. I hadn't eaten at Jose for a year or so having moved to France but the standard of food, wine and service remains exceptionally good. The following dishes were ordered: aubergine tortilla, tomato bread, croquetas, patatas bravas and goats cheese with honey. All of the dishes were... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
