We had dinner at Jose Pizarro on a Saturday evening. We hadn't booked but managed to get a table at the bar. We loved looking at the chefs and cooks preparing the meals. We had the hiberico as a starter and moved on to the...More

A great tapas bar near London Bridge. We had 4 starters and a main between us which was enough for me and my partner had a chocolate pot for dessert too (which he loved). We had tomato on bread, jamon iberico, cod croquettes and beef...More

We dined as a party of 7 last week. Jose Pizarro was in the kitchen and talking to diners and we asked him to recommend some dishes; put simply, the food was stunning! Our main dish was recommended and a speciality - it was actually...More

Very disappointed with the service. Everything started off well, friendly waiter, nice table etc. We had 5-7 booking pre-theatre, hence were planning more on the 'para picar' menu as it was too early for dinner. We tasted about 6 dishes, both types of jamón, black...More

Pizarro's food is massively overpriced for the what it is. £12 for a head of cauliflower and £5 for tomato on bread and £14 for 5 small (oversalted) prawns all make it head and shoulders above its neigbours on price. Redeeming factors - it has...More

Our choice for the evening was between a Mexican or Indian restaurant. However they were both closed. We found Pizarro and it was open, luckily for us, most enjoyable. We had the Bermondsey bomb and ham croquetas. Both were lovely. Then we shared he beef...More

I have been to this place a few times now and it is always a delight. I like sitting at the low bar looking out onto Bermondsey St. The service is good and the food is lovely - always a good veggie option. Mr Pizarro...More

Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard,
the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond
any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some

browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street,
foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old
foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks
of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest

The full-sized restaurant is one block away from my sherry and tapas bar, José, on Bermondsey Street. At the front there is a bar, offering a great selection of sherries and Spanish wines, with a spotlight on cavas, Spanish style gin tónicas and Spanish vermút. Here, at the window seats overlooking the lovely church of St Mary Magdalen or at the long communal table or at the bar itself, you can have a drink and graze on snacks, cheese, cold cuts and special tapas all day long. At the rear is more formal restaurant seating - tables for 2 and 4, banquettes for 4-5, a large communal table for 8-10 people and a private dining room for 8-10 people. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner in the evening all day from Monday until Sunday. When the restaurant area is open, the restaurant food menu is available in both the restaurant and the bar. We offer a selection of small and more substantial dishes that can be served as starters and mains or as tapas for sharing. As usual, I want to bring you delicious food with bright new flavours - the season's best on a plate. We take reservations for lunch and dinner in the restaurant and private dining tables, but hold the bar seating back for walk-ins.
