We had a lovely time here on a recent visit for Saturday lunch. All the staff are very friendly and helpful and the restaurant interior is very Spanish - dark wood and tiles on the walls. The menu isn't so long that you think things can't be cooked fresh, but is long enough to offer variety and has Spanish classics.... More

We stuck with tapas. All good quality but the octopus is outstanding. Good atmosphere, excellent service and a good wine list.

We've been looking forward to eating here for some time, and were not disappointed. The food was excellent, and the staff very attentive and friendly. It's really nice to see the open kitchen as well. Looking forward to our next visit.

Shared starter of a few tapas were near perfection small savoury bites full of flavour. The main course was a rib of beef that melted in the mouth and the sweet puddings completed the experience. The only negative point since my last visit is that prices have increased particularly for the wines.

I was very excited about eating at Pizarro after hearing great things. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The only great dish I had was the octopus, the rest were just okay (the croquetas, the pork fillet, the mackerel, the chorizo) and the brownie dessert was overcooked and not gooey like one would expect. The portion of... More

I imagine you could enjoy a really exquisite dining experience at this restaurant, reading previous reviews the potential is certainly there. My own experience however fell short of that. The ambiance is excellent, a really friendly buzz of people enjoying themselves, the open kitchen adding to the atmosphere. The food was certainly high quality but no "wow" factor for me.... More

Lovely meal, good service and delightful wine. Expensive, but worth it...which not all expensive restaurants can boast. Definitely worth a visit for a special occasion. Would recommend.

I hadn't been for a couple of months so the start of my birthday weekend, meant all the weekend activity, was mine to choose! Pizarro is the best place for great food, we didn't have a main but instead had 6 starters and a carafe of wine each, old favourites are still on there, his croquetas I have yet to... More

Description
The full-sized restaurant is one block away from my sherry and tapas bar, José, on Bermondsey Street. At the front there is a bar, offering a great selection of sherries and Spanish wines, with a spotlight on cavas, Spanish style gin tónicas and Spanish vermút. Here, at the window seats overlooking the lovely church of St Mary Magdalen or at the long communal table or at the bar itself, you can have a drink and graze on snacks, cheese, cold cuts and special tapas all day long. At the rear is more formal restaurant seating - tables for 2 and 4, banquettes for 4-5, a large communal table for 8-10 people and a private dining room for 8-10 people. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner in the evening all day from Monday until Sunday. When the restaurant area is open, the restaurant food menu is available in both the restaurant and the bar. We offer a selection of small and more substantial dishes that can be served as starters and mains or as tapas for sharing. As usual, I want to bring you delicious food with bright new flavours - the season's best on a plate. We take reservations for lunch and dinner in the restaurant and private dining tables, but hold the bar seating back for walk-ins.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
