Says as much about me as the restaurant, but this is my most favourite restaurant anywhere... whenever I am in London I make sure I just top myself up... it is quintessential London ... it's not perfect but it's just so right... loud, boisterous, working to a local clientele and certain price point - but the food is good, the... Hi Mike, Well, isn't this a review to brighten up a dismal Decemeber day!? Thanks for loving us so much! And to hear that we're your favourite restaurant, that really is like an early unexpected Christmas present. Personally, I love embarassing someone with a sing and a song, so I'm glad that you feel the same! Rumour has it we've... More

I had never been in East Village before and this was a great experience. The restaurant is eclectic, full of people, but with very friendly staff and delicious burgers!

Poor service, very slow for a lunchtime if you only have only have an hour, food not the best very basic but very over priced. Staff don't seem to be happy in their work, i will not return.

We booked a private room in Village East for a party of 12 for a late Saturday lunch. When we arrived at 2.00 pm, the place was really buzzing and we were glad we had a reservation. Frankly, it was a bit noisy and so we were relieved to be shown through a veritable rabbit warren to our table, where,... More

The people there are very polite , the dishes came to us exactly at the right time and was very good. The sea bas fish was fresh and tasty , the side dish were expellant. We really... More

Went for Sunday brunch, they were fully booked, but they still found us a table. The staff were friendly and efficient inspite the stress. The food was great.

Hi Jennifer, Really glad to hear that you loved our brunch so much. I'm quite the fan, too, but maybe I am biased? Come back soon, our menu deserves further exploration :) Tom More

Wow, that's all I can say!! Delicious food and the staff were so friendly, accommodating and happy. We didn't have a booking but they managed to fit us in and even moved us to a "booth" style table. When I ordered the wine, our lovely waiter asked me would I like to taste it as it was a very unique... More

Popped in for an early dinner with friends on a Saturday night. Had a drink beforehand in the bar with some snacks and olives and were will looked after sitting amongst some great rustic decor. Browsed at some menus but were then given different ones when we sat down which was a bit annoying. Our waitress was first class throughout.... More

Lovely Bermondsey restaurant. Had a nice breakfast here. The restaurant's interior is rustic, warm and welcoming. The staff were also very friendly and always at hand. The food was decent, tasted great, the presentation could have been better. An enjoyable experience overall.

Great atmosphere, great food and service. It was very busy when we visited (Sunday lunch) the lady at front of house found us a table after a short wait. The staff are really good and polite. We ordered the veggie breakfast and it was really good, with halloumi and quinoa a bit different than a the average veggie breakfast. We... More

Village East restaurant in chic south London enclave Bermondsey Street is designed to call to mind a hip East Village establishment in Manhattan. It sprawls through a listed warehouse and glass-fronted apartment building and is decorated in polished concrete, rough wooden pillars, striking curved white chairs, and a wide open kitchen. Sit back and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine while watching chefs hard at work creating the modern eclectic dishes that make up the Village East menu. In laymans terms, this means European flavours and techniques are coupled with South East Asian influences, resulting in some intriguing combinations. We had our eye on the seared scallops and caramelised pork belly with carrot puree and teriyaki glaze; and the West Cork beef burger with sauteed foie gras, caramelised onion, jumbo gherkin and chips, but if youre more in the mood for a steak, or fish and chips, theres plenty of that on offer too.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
