The meal was beautiful and very enjoyable. However, the volume of the talk is loud and not suppressed in any way. If you want a quiet meal this is not the place to go. There decore is limited from a noise suppression point of view. It was very difficult to hear any conversation even with some one sat next to... More

From Embankment a pleasant walk over the footbridge to Southbank and The Royal Festival Hall where "Skylon" can be found on one of the middle floors overlooking The Thames and North bank! Spacious, light, airy and inviting, a warm pleasant greeting on arrival - and "may I take your coats ..." shown straight to a lovely table by the picture... More

I arrived with all my husbands family visiting from Rome and booked this restaurant because of the good reviews but I felt the service was not great for what I expected and the price wasn't cheap! Half way through the meal we saw a mouse/rat run across the floor! When we told the waiter he said it was normal in... More

I went here just before Xmas with 3 friends and we were lucky enough to get a table by the window with a great view over the river. The food and wine were really nice but what made the evening special was the service from the staff. Even though it was just before Xmas and they were very busy, they... More

Fabulous location in the Royal Festival Hall overlooking the Thames - not one of the new high rise views but very good all the same. The food was excellent from the A la carte menu but there is also a pre performance menu for those on a tight timescale or budget. Wine list had some good options and the cocktail... More

I had an early dinner at Skylon after the theatre. The view and ambient was great, but the food and service were disappointing. We ordered the 'suckling pig', which was 3/4 of pure fat. The service was slow.

Went with my husband to Skylon as a Christmas indulgence and definitely we will be back!! We chose the tasting menu with the wine pairing: the food really tasty but the outstanding thing was the wine trip Noelia did for us. Thanks to her and to the whole team.

Very nice restaurant in the Royal Festival Hall overlooking the Thames. We booked a table the same day. Food was excellent as was the service. We had 3 courses each and everything was very tasty and well presented. However the noise level is terrible which made conversation challenging and chairs are also quite low for a tallish person.

Description
Skylon takes its name from the original, iconic structure that was built for the 1951 Festival of Britain and the restaurant's design echoes the style of the Royal Festival Hall during the same period. Situated on the third floor of the Southbank Centre, Skylon boasts outstanding views over the River Thames from its huge floor-to-ceiling windows. The main Restaurant features modern British cuisine, while the Grill offers more informal cooking and a relaxed atmosphere. The two dining areas are separated by a stunning centrepiece, raised bar which is renowned across London for its fabulous cocktails. Executive Head Chef Tom Cook brings a wealth of experience to the kitchen, following time at sister restaurant Pont de la Tour. Look out for regularly changing menus with an emphasis on seasonal ingredients combined simply and imaginatively. Visit the Skylon website for sample menus and further information.

Staying in Southbank

Neighbourhood Profile
Southbank
Big time attractions such as the London Eye and a thriving theatre scene (compliments of the National Theatre and the Young Vic) are but a few of the reasons that Southbank is such a collectively cherished part of town. With plenty of family friendly activities and venues lined up along a pedestrianized river bank between Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, visitors can always expect a casual and festive atmosphere. On top of all the fun stuff to do at Southbank is the opportunity to simply sit back and admire photo-op views of iconic landmarks like Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral, just on across the Thames.
