There is a clutch of historic & characterful pubs sprinkled along the Thames between the Tower of London & Canary Wharf. It may not be an original idea to do as we did but I think it is worth mentioning. We took one of the RNB River Boats from Westminster Pier to Canary Wharf Pier & then walked back along... More

This is one of those places you hesitate to recommend because you won't get a table next time. You feel as if you've stepped back a few hundred years as soon as you walk through the door. And the restaurant on the top floor is how Dickens would have remembered it. This is really good pub food, served piping hot... More

Great little English pub that looks over the Thames River. Is small but has upstairs area and decks towards the Thames both upstairs and downstairs. Bar service only with a decent selection of beer and pub food at reasonable prices.

I would love to say that the food is great, too, however, I've been here for both and dinner and the food could use some love and attention both in preparation and presentation although they appear to try their best. It's a busy place, popular and even hard to get a table, but go for the drinks and don't expect... More

My love of The Lord of the Rings drew my to this pub with the famous staff on display. The pub is tucked away on the Thames an easy walk from the tube station. We popped in at lunch and enjoyed a delicious lunch with some yummy mulled wine. The pub is lost in time and wonderfully preserved. The staff... More

To be completely honest this is a must. If you're looking for an old English pub with great atmosphere and fabulous food walk along and enjoy this place. It's about five minutes walk from the DLR station Westfarry. The staff behind the bar were great an asset to this pub. They have a great restaurant on the second floor but... More

A fabulous pub on the north bank of the Thames. Fabulous view of Canary Wharf from the small(and we are talking very small!) terrace. Serves a selection of ales and lagers. My favourite was the Adnams Southwold. Too early for the restaurant which is located upstairs, but peeking through the door it looks brilliant so I will return and give... More

As a local pub, its fine, and the only proper pub left ion Limehouse. History gets you a certain distance with clients, as does authenticity. The beer is good too, which is not as easy as it sounds... The food is good fare, especially upstairs, and served by friendly staff. I've eaten here opn many occasions now because its guaranteed... This is a great little authentic local English pub to visit! Gandalf, aka Sir Ian McKellen, is a part owner and frequently visits the pub. Great food and drink for a great price!

Description
Whether you're after a quick lunch, a romantic dinner by the river or just a friendly greeting in your local pub, we'd love to welcome you to The Grapes in Limehouse. We've been recommended by The Good Pub Guide since 1996, and you'll understand why when you visit.Overlooking the Thames, in a peaceful neighbourhood not that far from the bustle of Canary Wharf, The Grapes is one of the oldest pubs in London. Charles Dickens was a patron, and even made reference to the pub in his novel 'Our Mutual Friend'. Whilst our history goes back over 500 years, our menus are a little more up-to-date! If you're looking for something quick and tasty like a pie and a pint, you'll find tempting pub grub downstairs in the bar. Upstairs in our intimate dining room you'll discover sumptuous white-linen service for both lunch and dinner. And if you're looking for a venue for your Christmas lunch, we have a feast Dickens himself would have been proud of.We look forward to seeing you soon.
