I have been about 5 times and now travel from different parts of London to eat here, when I am visiting. I love this restaurant for its atmosphere, friendly staff and above all the superb food. The chef special chutney that comes with papadams is especially good. Saag paneer side dish is traditional, fresh, full of flavour. Tarkha daal has... More

Good food, an extensive menu and attentive service, all coupled with a variety of standard and more adventurous dishes, make this a good choice for Indian food away from the tourist trap chaos of Brick Lane.

Visited for dinner on a Sunday evening. Ordered duck tikka and a prawn curry. The food was good and tasty but the table I was sat at was very dark. I would visit again but perhaps ask for a table nearer the front window.

I cannot remember how many years I have been coming to the Empress and I think I know the menu backwards. The food and service are always exceptional ... it is a pleasure to dine here! In fact, I have been know to eat here several nights in the same week eating different dishes each time.

I've been going here for a number of years and can say that this is my favourite curry house in London. Really friendly service with a great menu. If you are looking for a 'traditional' British curry house in London, this is the place! It beats the Brick Lane tourist traps hands down and the quality of the food is... More

Not a curry person and I was dragged reluctantly out to socialise. Not only was the food spectacular, the service was incredible and the management delightful. If I am made to socialise again my condition will be to come back here again!!!

I called in at the Empress at about 7:30 Saturday 15th April the restaurant wasn't to busy I don't know if being Easter weekend made a difference as I have seen it a lot busier. As always the meal was very nice I had the lamb Rezala which I recommend thoroughly. Just having poppadum's and pickle tray for starter then... More

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighbourhood Profile
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
