Touring around London and we were introduced to this very lively spot. Loved it. Seemed like a spot the locals enjoy and I will definitely be back on our next trip to London.

A fantastic looking place, steeped in history. A bottle of wine drunk in the amazing historic cave, or in the ancient bar or in the now vastly extended outdoors is always a pleasure. A very friendly place where conversations are easily struck up, especially outside. An absolute classic

We'd heard about this place and decided to give it a try as it looked very different and quirky - just the sort of place we like. The place doesn't look much from the outside (Villiers Street) but this has been done deliberately to recreate how it looked back in the early 1900s before the Great War of 1914-18. Inside... More

To be honest, for a wine bar the list is none too extensive and wouldn't blow anyone's mind. The wines are all kept in the affordable range and restricted to British palate favourites (light inoffensive loire whites, big juicy tropical Sauvignons from NZ, standard-issue pinot noirs etc etc). I really wish they would introduce excellent wines from smaller producers which... More

was told to make sure I visited Gordon's Wine Bar while in London for work. I made a point and was not disappointed. I didn't have a chance to sample the food but if you're looking for a very unique place to have a glass or two then this is it. Find your way into the vault/cave and grab a... More

I am not a wine guy, but the selection seemed good. I had some interesting ports and sherries while I was here. They also have charcuterie that was really good. You should try to sit in the cave area, it is really cool and really evokes the age of the place.

Saturday teatime outside terrace packed but managed to find table inside the vaults, candle light only. Food - cheese platter, game pie, hummous, great chunks of bread, good value. More wine than you can think off. Fantastic time.

Having been recommended this wine bar years ago, it our 2nd visit while in London. Love the quirky cave like feel to the bar, the food is good although not a lot to choose from inside although they offer a Grill bar outside, but you don't get the feel of the place from outside. It wasn't very busy when we... More

We arrived shortly before 12:00 and were able to order wine to enjoy outdoors while waiting for their food service to start. We had a wonderful cheese plate with fantastic wines.

It's an amazing place. Great wine, atmosphere, food and staff. It does get busy, but don't be put off - it's worth a visit.

Staying in Trafalgar Square / Embankment

Neighbourhood Profile
Trafalgar Square / Embankment
With its iconic Nelson’s Column, majestic oversized lions and brightly-lit fountains, Trafalgar Square is not just considered the heart of this bustling London hub, but the very core of the city itself. Beyond this esteemed gathering place are more famous icons, as well as a disproportionate numbers of the city’s most popular cultural attractions including the National Gallery and many West End theaters. Along the way to these major sites are quiet lanes and antiquated pubs to discover, as well as riverside vistas to enjoy on the embankment. With a calendar full of celebratory events, any time of year is a fine time to visit.
