We ate a late dinner here after arriving back to London at around 11pm. The first thing that greeted us was the loudness of the music. It was slightly difficult to have a conversation and neither of us are particularly fond of that when trying to eat dinner. The food itself was fine, nothing particularly wonderful about it but it... Our experience at Balans had a lively and crowded atmosphere matched by an eclectic decor that made our occasion here a special thing. The menu had something for everyone on our table of six (veggie, vegan and fussy), as well as a great selection of cocktails on and off the menu! The bar, at early evening on a Saturday, was... I've been a huge fan of Balans, I've been there many many times over the year's. If you like your food and drinks - this is a must. Porn Star Martin's are the best I've had, and the food is great. Staff are friendly and attentive. A great overall experience and everything is reasonably priced. I had my 40th birthday... More

Popped into Balans for first time in months with my wife post Aladdin. Great show by the way. Nothing has changed too much. Food was amazing, cocktails were great and unusual ( some designed by Emma). Opted for an array of starters Tapas style. Monk fish scampi, humus, jerk chicken samosas and almond encrusted goats cheese.....wow. The staff were attentive,... More

I went here with a friend for the first time in February. Another friend is always raving about it. He recommended the 'Red Curry'. I got the strip version and it was really good although I found it a little too rich as I'm not a massive lover of curry generally. But the flavours and portions were great. I also... More

Met friends for lunch and left after most were dining, 6 hours approximately. Firstly, I want to praise the service. All staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. Food was superb. We had the roasts with starters and ended with a cheese platter. They actually had gluten free bread for one of my friends. If you want to relax and simply... More

We popped in here before seeing a show at Ronnie Scott's. There were 7 of us and it was roughly 10pm and the staff allowed us to order drinks and stand (it was snowing and freezing outside). Unfortunately they completely forgot my drink - I ordered a pineapple juice but it was fine, as everyone else got their drinks. I... More

Greeat food. Great, busy atmosphere. Warm welcome and exceptional waitstaff. We loved it so much for dinner that we went back the next day for lunch.

Not for the fainthearted, Balans Soho Society is a place to indulge. Enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner and after-dark activities in the company of fellow bon vivants. It's a café, a restaurant, a bar, a member's establishment and definitely a place where rules are made to be broken. And it's all done in the spirit of Soho - the iconic corner of London that has always acted as a refuge for outsiders: minorities, eccentrics, bohemians, dreamers...people drawn together by a shared conviction that normal rules don't apply to them. A place to go when you feel like doing things you probably shouldn't. We are Balans Soho Society and we live by the philosophy that too much of a good thing is a GOOD THING, the best plan is NO PLAN and that the pursuit of pleasure is a noble one. Even if the pleasure itself might not be. Let us banish the jobsworth, the wet blanket, the killjoy. Those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often. LET CURTAINS TWITCH. All hail the rogue, the rascal and the reprobate. We have a way of dealing with outsiders: INVITE THEM IN for a drink.

Staying in Soho

Neighbourhood Profile
The go-to district for a good time in London, Soho hosts a wealth of world-class theatres and a compelling lineup of cafes, restaurants, pubs, bars, and clubs. At Soho's core is London's original Red Light District and the epicenter of the LGBT scene – and thus the city's hottest nightlife. For shopping enthusiasts, Soho is not only the home of London's greatest concentration of boutique shops, but also the most strategic place to set off on a tour of the world's most celebrated department stores. In the southern part of the neighbourhood lies Chinatown, with its multitude of delicious and affordable restaurants. Closer to the Thames, Chinatown's narrow and teeming lantern-lit lanes spill onto the expansive hub of glitzy Leicester Square.
