After reviewing places to visit in York, the House of Trembling Madness was on our list of must things to do. On our initial visit during the day, this seemed a funky place to re-visit on an evening. On re-visiting I was expecting it to...More

Really great atmosphere in this small but perfectly set up bar. As long as you are comfortable sharing a table with strangers you will get a seat before too long and you may make some new friends. Great selection of unusual beers and the shop...More

Had a great night here, been before and wasn’t disappointed. Apart from the obnoxious, rude, arrogant and un customer friendly young man on the stairs controlling the intake of customers. It didn’t spoil our night but I would recommend a review of your staff as...More

Lovely bar with an interesting shop underneath. The only downside is it's quite often too busy to get a seat. This is a great bar with tasty food and is a fab place to take visitors to York!

Not been before so it was a total surprise once inside. It's hidden well, you enter through a shop and then climb a staircase to a vaulted ancient building. There are tremendous old beams and taxidermy everywhere including a lion's head over the bar. Food...More

The upstairs bar has some lovely medieval decor and the staff are happy to help you find the right beer for you. The downstairs shop is the real attraction though, an incredible selection of beer at very reasonable prices!

Amazing food in a great atmosphere! The kitchen is tiny but they serves delicious food and have many local beers. The entrance is directly through the liquor store underneath the pub.

This is a medieval ale house and specialist beer merchant/store. It is simply amazing, the quirky food is excellent - robust cheeseboards , pies, stews, best locally sourced ingredients and has a 5 start rating from hygiene standards. They also have some amazing holiday apartments, check out their website
