Hi there, I'm a little disappointed to see this go as far as you leaving us a negative review on TripAdvisor. I was the one you spoke to on Friday night, I informed you I would ring the company who deals with the machines; I proceeded to ring them and explain the situation, I then also explained the situation to... Found my way to this establishment having seen the tables and chairs out on the riverside which was quiet compared to the rest of the city on a busy Saturday and was looking for some where to eat with dogs. That said if the sun was out I'd expect it would be alot busier here. There was one member of... More

Treated a friend to afternoon tea. On arrival we were told to go upstairs. We were told to find out name on a table. The food and cakes were amazing .. We stuck to the floor when we walked in , our table was very sticky.... The décor upstairs was very dowdy and dark, the booths need to be recovered... More

We had the pleasure of visiting the Lowther in York yesterday for Afternoon Tea. The food was fabulous, finger sandwiches, coffee and walnut cake, lemon drizzle cake, scones, fresh strawberries and lattes to wash it all down. The food was freshly made and I'd suggest that all the cakes/scones were home made because they were to die for! All for... More

The Lowther has two floors, the upstairs being self contained for private hire. Efficient cheerful staff serve reasonably priced drinks with "specials" available. Situated by the river, it is frequented by local students which creates a lively, youthful atmosphere. Although we were old veterans, the interaction was convivial and enjoyable. The audio is raised later in the evening producing a... More

The cocktails were great and for the price 2 for £8 I couldn't have asked for better. The toilets definately need cleaning and some of the seats need replacing or repairing. The atmosphere was comfortable and friendly and the main seating area and bar were clean. Will definately be back when I visit York again. If you're looking for cocktails... More

Staff seemed uninterested. The food was bland and we were surrounded by students sinking shots. The table was sticky and we wiped down our own table.

Afternoon tea for 2 at £10 is very good value. Finger sandwiches were good scones and cakes were very good too. My children had the deluxe drinking chocolate and really enjoyed it.
